Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

Just played through it, my expectations went from mild, to ehhh

I love how the game looks, it's still rough, especially the framerate, but the overall aestethic are really damn good...also, the music is amazing, expecting good stuff for the final game

But then, i hated everything else tbh, the combat system feels slow and unprecise, the movement are clunky as hell when outside of combat, the framerate didn't help this tbh, it's just not snappy enough for an action rpg...hell by the time i got to the third group of enemies i felt really bored...it's like playing KH but it just doesn't feel as good and polished

I haven't tried the Duscae demo so i donnow if the group mechanics and more advanced stuff would feel better in the long run but so far i absolutely hated it

Indeed, I think the kid Noctis gameplay does a very poor job of getting people ready for adult gameplay too.

Kid Noctis portion is meant to give you a taste at the scale of the world, it would've worked properly if no combat was involved and you're just sightseeing. That's why it fails and some are frustrated and yet some aren't taking advantage of adult Noctis but that's due to poor explanation on SE end.

When you jump and press the analog the stick plus the attack button in any direction you are free to control Noctis back and forth and sideways as you please. If you successfully dodge and you can keep attacking and won't hit the floor, just be mindful of your MP. I don't hold the attack button btw I feel in total control.

Good shit

Kid Noct gameplay seemed like it was aimed for 5yo, not teens. It's a weird demo, should have just polished up Overture with the frog and released that.

Agreed and agreed. I feel they wanted to ease people in before iron giant fight, as the mechanics are fairly complicated, but should have had a training dummy tutorial or something with full abilities.

Just finished playing it. Definitely not as panic inducing as expected, graphics are nice, music is really really nice, the game has charm etc......

I managed to find some hidden depth in the combat through the use of all dodge mechanics.

Dodge roll
Jumping
Phantom Dodge (L1)
Warm dodging (Triangle)

Unlike Duscae you can now warp freely around the field and enemy using Triangle. It's a massive improvement and adds a lot to battles.

Improvements to be had tho. Would recommend they do another free demo closer to release.

I didn't realize you could still do the L1 dodge. Couldn't you warp around in battle in Duscae without warp-striking? Actually, I know you could... How is it different in the new demo? I didn't get to spend much time on it yet.

Alright im not here to shit post just expressing my "wtf" impressions.

I remember ff on the ps1 and 2. They where something else and I did love them. Im not big into japanese rpg games but they always seemed well done and intriguing enough to play.

This....wtf is this? Its an extremely uninspired mess with janky mechanics.....it was an absolute bore. Im sorry im skipping....I honestly found nothing appealing.

The shitty imgur compression doesn't help with that shot. Jaggies is due to their AA solution.

Anyway, graphics in Altissia doesn't look as impressive especially with missing SSR and such.

I'm not familiar with the tech for these kind of things,
but maybe its the low-res textures at mid range and further which makes the game look blurry. The polygons seem to look clean in the back ground (with the character modelling being an exception).
So the low res textures and clean polygon don't really blend in clean, so it looks somewhat odd.

I could probably be ok with this since I'll probably eventually get the PC version if the game is great, but they really need to fix the frame rate which sometimes makes me sick.
I felt like this especially in the forest, while running around panning the camera and exploring it. Not just running towards the goal which is the lake).

I'm not going to judge the combat though, since I wasn't able to play enough to get the hang of it.

-Edited-
Played the PS4 demo btw.

man I got destroyed at the end, I thought I was doing great destroying all the kingdom hearts enemies but then right at the iron giant, RIP me

overall it was a solid demo and it will be my second final fantasy since XIII so I am hyped :D

no hope style characters is a sigh of relief, fuck hope

Come on guys, did you really expect a turn based combat system or something near that from this game in 2016? This game has to sell 10 million copies to succeed, they needed to make it the more affordable and userfriendly for mainstream players as they could, in order to get more customers while maintaining the core fans.
That said i like this new combat system, it's pretty much like Kingdom Hearts but a bit more tactic, also i wouldn't judge the game from this demo, it has just a few small linear locations, not even close to what the main game is meant to be, with open big maps, gorgeous landscape and plenty of side stuff to do.
I'm confident this game will be awesome, can't wait for it after all this years since Final Fantasy XIII the last one I played.
My only concerns are performances, graphics look good, not jaw-dropping as promotional demo/trailers and screenshots suggested, but definitely good enough, though frame rate is just awful, game is almost unplayable like that, at least on Xbox One, the final battle ran at about 25 to 10fps

I think it's very fair to be worried that the areas in the game that aren't sweeping, gorgeous landscapes will resemble the locations we saw in the demo in terms of design.

We weren't expecting turn based battle system. (Not sure what the year has to do with it, lots of games coming out this year with turn based)

I think everyone is getting super frustrated at the combat which we haven't seen a lot of combinations yet because we don't have the game already...
But I think a lot of the complaints is that people where expecting something like DMC?

So far in the demo I see the issues on the frame rates but most of them were really rare.
It's a cool tech demo.

Well, that was a pretty disappointing demo. The game looks very blurry in some areas for some reason and I didn't particularly enjoy the combat system. I hope it has more depth to it then just attacking and dodging.

looks like the flare attack he used isn't even fully finished in animation yet......but damn this makes me so excited!

That music though is fucking amazing............I'm getting more hyped for the final release.

They should just update the Duscae demo, release it as 3.0 to the public with updated combat and have people try that before release.

In the video it looked badass. In the demo....its a QTE? Bummer.

I think if he would have hit square to early it would have failed....so he still had to actively activate it with a halfway precise button press.

Can you not save in this game? Cause it keeps saying new game every time I load it up. If you can't then that's fucking stupid and I hope there's an update soon.

Just got through the demo, enjoyed it.

I don't remember being able to freely switch between weapons mid-combo in Duscae, but it is really satisfying to start up with a quick sword and switch mid-combo to a hammer with no delay for more damage.

Magic is taking me some time to get good at, it doesn't seem to follow lock on? The rain spell was fucking pretty.

I expected the worse, reading these comments

But it wasn't even that bad.

The graphics looked great, the framerate drops were there but they weren't unbearable, and the combat is also an improvement from Duscae, the button input weren't as precise but demos right? I will admit that asking you if you want to order was a bit obnoxious.

I have a feeling most of hate is stemming from the fact this demo is not an open world demo like duscae was.I think releasing Duscae demo with the improve combat to the world would have been a better option.

I have faith that Square Enix will hopefully iron out these problems before release date, it's not like they're going to sit on their ass all seven months.

Adult Noctis is you're taste for the combat, enjoy! Experiment! Tip don't hold guard always when fighting.

I had to reset the combat scenario a few times before I got what they were going for. Don't know if I like it as such but it's interesting. A proper combat tutorial probably would've been advised but whatever. Sure is a looker though.

Hmm. Finished my first run through. Impressions are not too hot. Coming from Duscae, I found square to defend very jarring, and swapping weapons using the d pad very tricky to manuever. Defend seems to only work occasionally as well, but I dunno. Might just be me. I'm going to run through it a few times more to see if it clicks.
