Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

THey really should've had some sort of save, that lets us load it straight from the final location, cuz the combat is something that grows on you over time (been like that since Duscae) and discouraging people from trying it more is bad. Not giving Armiger Maneuvers you could unlock in Duscae is also bad. Getting them was pretty much mandatory in Duscae for combat system to even start taking shape.

If you want a feel for the combat the optional buffed enemy at the end seems like the best bet for those wanting to try it out. It is a lot better than what you see at first imo.

I want to say 'Hard to believe this game was in development for 10 years' but then I remember that those are exactly the kind of games that end up as technical messes.

boy this was boring. fighting the level 15 at the end was fun and cool though, so I'm still optimistic for the full game.

It was utterly terrible, but like you I'm not ready to judge the potential of the full game from it.

Hated it.

I was looking for this second demo to re-ignite my interest in the game after the underwhelming first demo, but I actually disliked it more. I went from 'I have reservations but I'll probably buy the end product anyway because it's a mainline Final Fantasy' to making the decision to not buy it, at least not at release like I normally do.

Poor performance, unresponsive and overly simplistic controls (it seems to me that they're actually removing elements the more development goes on), and little sense that the game is in good, confident hands. And the worst crime- it's boring.

Sorry, Cidney.

Just played through it and it was ok and I am still looking forward to FFXV. However I can see this demo putting more new people off than actually enticing them to buy FFXV. I think they should have merged this demo with Duscae, have him wake up in the tent at the beginning of Duscae demo from his dream so people unfamiliar with FF would actually see what the real game will be like.

Any reason to collect all the gems other than unlocking plates? Got stuck in the first area lol. Can't seem to get noct to jump into the ring in the lake. I've tried everything. I have to go to work so I'll just restart when I get home.

On a side note, I'm glad they added the katana DLC for preorders on the other editions and not just the crazy stupid 260$ version.

Really like this new combat style from old FF games. This is exactly what I've been waiting for from a jrpg. This year is going to be amazing, FFXV, Persona 5, and SMTxFE #!!

So, having played Episode Duscae and Platinum Demo.... I kind of feel bad for people who are only playing the Platinum Demo because it seems to be a really specific vertical slice of the game that was basically... well, I don't know. It doesn't really give a feel for the combat of the full game (until the Iron Giant) and it's just kind of dull.... but, on the plus side, this probably gives us a decent benchmark of the visual and audio aspects we can expect and I'm very excited for the soundtrack.

Also. Why do people Still say it's been in development for 10 years. Its only been in development since 2012, hasn't it? Everything before that was pretty much scrapped, I thought.

I like some of the minor story details in this, I've only been able to find one in Altissia that's about Regis buying Noctis a ball. Are there any more of these?
The game looks gorgeous although noticeably assets in the distance can be pretty low quality. Altissia suffers the most from this, there is a disconnect between the regular buildings in the gameplay area and the low textured low model buildings in the distance. Fairly off putting.
I do hope vehicle handling is improved in the final game, there is a noticeable lag when trying to reverse and the camera is too close for my liking.
Wonder what DLC you get from playing this, maybe it'll be Carbuncle using Ruby Light on you as a summon?

Overall cute demo, I do hope you get the toy hammer in the full game as a joke Easter egg weapon. That'd be hilarious.

Disappointed.

Being fair this demo put me away from FF.

The graphics are fine, the world movement is fine... the battle system terrible.

This FF is faded to fail from the same mistakes than FFXIII failed.

C'mon nobody expect an action RPG from FF... stop this bullshit and make a proper battle system that I can not get bored... make it turn based... it is better.

I almost give up near the middle of the demo.

SE asking me to buy the game at end? That can be only a joke.

This is not what the game is going to be like at all. SE screwed up by releasing this demo and thinking people would react rationally about it.

They should have just made the Duscae demo public.
It's not like people are acting crazily with regards to the actual demo. It's very poorly thought out and gives next to no explanation about the combat system. If you played the adult Noctis Iron Giant fight like child Noctis combat, you wouldn't have fun. And if you finish the demo, you'd have to slog through all that child Noctis stuff again to get to the material that's more representative of the final product.

Yeah, pretty much. So it's basically been in development for 4 years, which is pretty normal. People like to say 10 years to make it seem like the game will be shit.

What people aren't getting is that this is basically the tech demo they promised a while back. That's what the plates are for. They show off the weather, some new creatures, and the magic. The boss battle also shows off the improved combat system and the better visual effects(Iron Giant up in flames). The lighting system seems improved as well, with the IG being illuminated by the fire. The weapon switching is great, with potential for cool combos the more Weapons you acquire.

Turn based is better/less boring? I can't.

yeah i think people were expecting this to be a story episode. like a ground zeroes of sorts. but kind of unrealistic since its free.

i haven't finished it yet but it was superrrrr barebones so far. :shakes fist at mike (or whatever the guy's name from SE NA was who said there was a lot to do)

The demo was basically to show off the systems in place, like the improved weather and magic effects. It was also to show the improved battle system(as an adult). The toyroom was to show off the physics system. The car plates were to show off how driving will feel. The creature plates were just to show off a few creatures.

All in all, it was a decent demo. I'm still hyped for the main game, knowing the battle system has improved.

This is pretty much my impression, I guess some were expecting kid Noctis to fight like adult Noctis.

These impressions don't bode well. I haven't been feeling the combat from the beginning but I need to give this a go I guess.

Only thing missing from the combat is a full set of weapons to use and your companions (Iron Giant). Kind of a let down really.

Turn based is better/less boring? I can't.
More exiting too.

FF needs to back to the good days... I passed FFXIII and I will probably pass FFXV :(

Well, personally, I am glad it's not turn based because turn based combat bores me. This direction pleases me.
You but the market? Just look what this direction is making with the franchise.

Another thing... framerate is bad but I guess it is because a demo.

We'll never hear the end of the turned based whining tbh.
And yeah what do you expect them to tel you? "Please don't buy the game. You'd be crazy if you did"

Demo was pure shit. Tell me the main game doesn't look, perform and play like this?

This demo is mostly a tech one to give a taste of what the game will look/play like.

The battles are missing a few elements from other trailers and lacks party members.

5 months of more optimization will really help.

Just wanted to say that I pixel counted. PS4 is 1080p and Xbox One was 792p in one scene and 900p in another (possibly dynamic buffer). But all of this does not matter since this is not a part of the base game.

I have mixed feelings of the demo. Battle system felt really bad until the very end with the boss. Graphics weren't that great.

Music was top notch though and dual audio was great.

very very disappointing i missed out on episode duscae but this demo has killed all my hype for this game even if this is more of a tech demo then a true demo the combat and framerate are garbage and i was looking forward to this game since 2012

I was left feeling disappointed.

Framerate felt off, controls felt a bit sluggish? Battle system can be simplified down to just holding down the circle button.

Man :(

The combat at the end is what matters. You won't be playing as kid Noct in the game.

So even the final battle as an adult was "garbage"? Lol, good one.

This felt underwhelming. I guess the combat will improve a lot with more enemies but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

The world feels so fake and plastic but at the same time so beautiful. I hope that by filling it with other creatures like we see in the vids, it'll improve.

My hype level didn't go up with this demo!

Lol, turn based can also be very boring and less exciting. It all depends on the implementation.

And no, FFXIII failed for a few reasons and the combat system was not one of them.
Yeap... I didn't purchase FFXIII battle system... anecdotal yes but it is the same for FFXV.

I will be happy to see others fans buying/linking it but I guess most won't like they didn't for FFXIII.

Just put in another hour into the demo.

How many gems are there in this game? Got 385 this time.

Shuriken with warp is OP man. Stun lock for days.

Don't understand:
how to use the shield
how to combo while warping

Apparently you can hold down the attack button as an adult. Someone here said that wastes MP. I didn't try, though. I actually pressed the button more than once in a battle.

I named him Bunk.

Should have named him Bunky.

Hmm I really don't like the battle system. This button holding is weird and kind of not fun for me. Other than that I don't have any big complaints. But with battles being a major part of Final Fantasy -> I'll pass. Reminds me too much of Kingdom Hearts (and I dropped that very quick because of the boring battles).

Believe you get recoil/stun on the giant sometimes when defending with shield equipped.

Just finished the demo. I thought it was cool for what it is.
Battle at the end was cool. Playing as kid noctis reminded me of KH. Kid noctis combat wasn't good, but the real combat was fine imo. I'll have to play it again to get a better feel. Didn't really know what I was doing at the end.
Game looks good. Runs okay. Controls are slightly clunky. Music is excellent. Environments are really cool.

tbh this demo was just trying to show off the spectacle and I think it succeeded in that.

Just replayed the demo to get to the fight at the end

Making it rain at night during this fight makes it stunning.

But the framerate... oh boy. Did a warp attack from the top on the building and it was basically running at 10fps afterwards...

Demo has been pixel counted to 1080p on ps4 https://forum.beyond3d.com/threads/i...44654/page-244

Still blurry image imo, maybe because of bad AA or excessive blur?
Probably the super low-res textures? IDK

My god the overreactions in this thead are hilarious

You are writing off a Game based on a tech demo.
Uhhh

A "tech demo" is supposed to be, you know, impressive. Whether it's to showcase awesome visual tech like lighting, particle effects, animations, or whatever. Or even art direction, of which this showcased nothing, just a boring, empty "dream world". This was visually underwhelming and it ran like shit. Plus gameplay wise it's... fucking nothing. Holding circle to attack insignificant enemies, then press A to awesome janky-as-fuck combat against some generic boss.

Not to mention the game has been in development for a fucking decade. xD You'd expect a minimal amount of polish out of their demo, for crying out loud.

A demo is supposed to show the game's potential and make you crave for more. This was a bad demo on all fronts.

So no, it's not an overreaction at all, considering what a spectacular failure of a demo it is.
