PS4K information (~2x GPU power w/ clock+, new CPU, price, tent. Q1 2017)

4K console, 500gb.... do they expect you to buy 4K films and store them on that paltry HDD?

Nope, they want you to insert them 4k Blu-Rays...

Pretty sure there will be a 1TB SKU as well, we already have that. But if I buy PS4k, I'll go with the 500 GB SKU and switch it right away with a decent 2 TB HDD.

I just can't get it in my head that this thing is going to drop in November yet virtually all the gaming press are completely in the dark on the thing (outside Patrick overhearing devs at GDC)

I don't know what to think right now. That it might be smaller than OG PS4 means it might not be has powerful as it could be too.

Microsoft learned a thing or two about PR from the Xbone reveal.
They floated a vague concept to evaluate reactions, people reacted harshly to it, and they in turn reacted to the publics reaction.

"We're obviously not doing that guys, we know you wouldn't like that! It's anti-consumer, am I right?!" winkwinknudge

If this thread turns out to be on-point, and Sony reveals this at E3, I think they're going to regret not testing the waters first, as Microsoft seem to be doing nowadays.

Back to the PS4.1 theory.
I wish that's the case too, PS4 slim with small GPU clock boost.

It's hilarious how many people in the thread missed out on the joke there. Really adds to the ear plugging and wishful thinking that has surrounded this whole ordeal.

That's actually good news. They shouldn't waste BOM on a HDD.
Exactly. Also, I'm a little scared to see what Kratos looks like on ps4 hardware let alone PS4K!

Ok, I don't get it. What's "OG"? The original SKU released at the end of 2013? Because that cost 399, not 499...

He's saying the OG will stay 399, which means the new one will be 499 by virtue of HAVING to be more expensive. The alternative was to drop the price on the old one and launch 4k at 399 in it's place.

I imagine the 399 price point is for 2 reasons- 1. to keep trade in value high, and 2. to keep perceived value and price difference at bay. If OG dropped to 299 that would be a 200 dollar price gap. Sony can't afford to cell 2x CPU and GPU at 399 given their new strategy of profit on all hardware rather than cost leader.

Osiris can you confirm this?

It's strange since QD is never the type of company to do downgrades though, so we'll have to wait for the next trailer. I do agree Uncharted 4 on ps4 looks better though.
I doubt it will be downgraded at all from the trailer. Only from the screens, which is the same that happened in Beyond. They supersample their promotional screenshots including resolution and the precision of some effects such as DoF is higher. But otherwise it's the same. Beyond still looked absolutely gorgeous even if the IQ wasn't as clean as the press screenshots. I'm sure this will be the same here. It also wouldn't surprise me if they don't quite reach UC4 level of fidelity. While that game has some pretty open levels, it's still filled with a relatively controllable amount of NPCs. Considering QD's trailers always feature playable scenes, it can be assumed they have will some absolutely vast crowd simulation going on that might even exceed AssCreed in scope, some of their recent hirings also hint at this. This of course limits you somewhat considering the PS4 is CPU starved.

I said that was real deal in the trailer, which looks similar to those 8K screens they released. But the super high res screens have an obscene bokeh quality. Screens and discussion I was referencing are now added few posts up in the thread.
Yeah, I think the final game will match the trailer. But the screens are supersampled. Same as they did with Beyond

I don't think Spencer's comments mean anything, tbh. He's just dodging.

Indeed. Both will release new hardware, it makes sense on multiple levels. I'm just curious when the reveal will be. I would guess E3, but the only thing that would make me question that is the impact it would have on current hardware sales. Its why you see companies like Apple and Samsung typically announce and then release product rather quickly, as to not hurt hardware sales.

If they stay consistent with forward compatibility between successive hardware releases, then in reality the console cycle still remains 6-7 years in terms of game compatibility.

So while the hardware may cycle more often, you still can play games for just as long.

But do you truly want the PS5 to be held back architecture wise from the PS4K? Like what if Sony wanted the PS5 to have 64 GBs of RAM and a 1TB of bandwidth from the GPU to RAM and vice versa?

There's NO WAY games made to take advantage of that bandwidth and RAM space could run on the PS4K properly.

See, I thought PS4k's price tag depends on the yet to be decided (?) CPU , not the price of the vanilla PS4....

Again read my post above. it's about percieved value. Sony wants the power, but they don't want the price gap to be so significant. a 200 dollar gap is the same as ps3-ps4. They need to keep the gap at 100 so it doesn't imply such a dramatic upgrade.

How about no.

26fps [37ms per frame] on a stock PS4 in that ending scene with nice ["off-line rendered" :D] DOF, more than a year before game is set to be released.

edit - And BTW if they change their DOF for a more simpler solution in a final game, I will probably not give a fuck. Game will look gorgeous regardless.

Not tooooo bad. Still very dead eyes and plastic looking but quite nice compared to what's out there.

Well, they are presumably androids. ;P

Isn't this only $150 difference if true, since no price drop on PS4 (again if true as well)?

To be fair if they are dropping price this holiday retail wouldn't know about it yet. FOR SURE. They don't even tell partners that kind of thing this far out, because frankly Sony themselves still may not know. Just because they aren't talking about it doesn't mean a price drop on the original model can't happen.

Very good point as well.
