Rey gets way more. Nobody knows who that anime dude is. You can find Rey sexist nonsens all over the Internet.

Most people who saw FA don't even know what Mary Sue is to begin with and among those that do very few consider her the MarySue. You're just getting your perception skewed by how big the movie was. So the tiny minority has a lot of people.

But among anime watchers (and SAO is biggest anime of the decade easily) almost everybody knows who Mary Stue is and almost everybody things Kirito is one.

Anyway, who are these perfect male characters you speak of? I'm struggling to think of any, certainly any that people consider good characters.

See virtually any action movie with Tom Cruise. Nearly every single James Bond film. Endless super hero movies (such as Captain America TWS). Lots and lots of movies where the male lead is good at virtually everything.

Oh wow the cinematography is beyond jaw dropping. I mean seriously looks like a award contender.

All shot in the new Arri Alexa 65 (6K) camera.

Grieg Fraser is getting better and better. His past work include Zero Dark Thirty and Foxcatcher so expect to see some beuatiful work here.

Wow, hope more movies use that camera. Figured it was film. It helps that they are using OT era costumes and sets, but a times the cinematography looked much closer in style to the OT than TFA.

Yeah I dunno what was going on here lol. Maybe he was just focusing on something off camera or reading his lines. Looks funny though.

Click on video, he is goofing on the ending of TFA. He even jokes about it.

Look great! But where are the xwing battles?! Even with a teaser, it's like calling a.movie "Jedi Knight" and not showing one Jedi.

It's not based on Rogue Squadron, though I would presume they'd show up since Yavin is featured.

I am SO HAPPY that Mon Mothma is in this. That means it's even more likely that Bail will be in.

Star Wars lore has worse things to explain, leia saying she remembers her mother, obi wan saying Vader killed lukes father
It's not hard to really explain though. Leia is Force Sensitive. She even says her memories are mostly "Just images really, feelings." She does not actually know her mother; what she "remembers" of her mother is actually her latent Force Sensitivity.

I am pretty sure that was from the EU which doesn't count.
I hope so, honestly, because it's frankly a pretty terrible retcon.

Not sure if it was EU or not, but this can still be the case. Tarkin or Vader could be informed of the plot in progress and tell them to let it happen.
I mean, I would hope that neither Tarkin nor Vader is dumb enough to let slip the plans that they have apparently never really analyzed until Episode IV. "We've analyzed their attack, sir, and there is a danger." Literally said DURING the battle in Episode IV. That is just shit tier planning from two characters whose planning skills put Batman to shame.

At first I thought that as well but that was a joke bit with Hamill doing the stare from the TFA ending. Should have made that ad a little longer, lol
Ah that's fine then. I'm on the Wii U right now and can't click on the Yoytube overlay links.

Cruise most certainly isn't a Stu in Oblivion or Edge of Tomorrow, I burst out laughing at him constantly eating shit in EoT

Bond's been flawed as fuck since Craig took over too

Basically or the basic the last one lives to save the plans.

Jyn probably lives because plot armor

Finally a canon explanation.

Darth Vader is basically Hitler

I think The Revenant and also and upcoming Dr. Strange both being shot with the camera. Very pretty images.

Not trying to be a dick, but what was so impressive about it?

The tracking shot with the ATAT's and the infantry running across the battlefield looks like a fan film compared to The Revenant's opening scene.

I agree about EoT. I am thinking more Mission Impossible and Jack Reacher. In which he is great at everything in those films.

I don't think that's it. I think we see female character leads get heralded as a great ones even though they are a Mary Sue because we're so starved of good female protagonists that even badly written ones leap to being considered great characters.

And who are these perfect male characters you speak of? I'm struggling to think of any, certainly any that people consider good characters.

Anyway, I don't want to get off topic. Hopefully Rogue One's lead will be better written. I'm just surprised there's resistance to the Mary Sue thing.

Why.

What. Yep this shit is beyond idiotic. What a fucking joke.

They've nailed the visual tone of the OT. Been confident in the cast since it was announced but it looks even better now.

Interested to see more of Mendelsohn's character. Wonder if he'll be more of a hands on villain or just pulling the strings. That cloak's too nice to get dirty.

Oh, definitely. I'm just saying that it can still happen that way if they want it to (and if it's actually canon)

" this is a rebellion isn't it " I liked that part.

The added "I rebel" just made me cringe.

Yes! The first line is pretty good sarcasm.

The second line is just 100% cringe worthy crap that sounds like it should come from some 13 year old kid.

Oh he was definitely that in most MIs. He actually got better about it in the last one though, thankfully.

I haven't seen Jack Reacher but I heard he was a molten level asshole in it

You're saying a franchise that is way more popular gets talked about way more? No way.

Taking the scope of each fandom in perspective, I think it's fair to say that most people who discuss SAO call Kirito a Mary Sue. In fact the term is quite commonly used for male characters in anime circles.

Looks a whole lot better then I was expecting. Not that I thought it was going to be bad anyway.

James Bond literally does everything right (or his mistakes are used as plot devices) and has the solution to nearly every problem he faces, and tons of men use him as a role model and consider him a powerfully written and good character.

Steve Rogers does almost everything right (or his mistakes are used as plot devices) and has a solution to nearly every problem he faces, very little of it being actively explained, and many men use him as a role model and say he's a well written character.

Nathan Drake does just about everything right (or his mistakes are used as plot devices) and has a solution to almost all of his problems, few of them being explained other than, "Well, he's good!" and the only real criticism you see towards him is about how many people he kills.

I can keep going. Really, I can.

Anyway! I'm hyped as shit for this movie. I'm really glad they didn't end the trailer with ominous breathing. Keep the rumors just that for now!

That was awesome. Anyone turning this thread into yet another discussion about Mary fucking Sue's can get to fuck.

Discussion won't stop here nor anywhere else on the internet especially now that Felicity is the lead. That's the one thing I'm dreading about this promotion. I wish December could just get here already.

I'm going to take a guess that "I rebel" line is cut from a sentence that was in a different part of a conversation. Trailers do that all the time.

Weak and boring trailer (especially by Star Wars standards, where you could watch them almost as many times as the movies), but movie looks really interesting anyway.
