Rogue One |OT| No, that's not Gandalf. Yes, that's Mon Mothma. No, there's no Bothans. That's the OTHER Death Star. No, the OTHER other Death Star. (She's not Rey's mom)

Looks different, original, and interesting.

Ie. everything TFA was not
For your information, originality is extremely overrated when it comes to movies. I could do without it entirely. I want the exact same thing over and over when I walk into a Star Wars until the day I die, and I can't imagine why someone could possibly want more than that in a SW film.

TFA duel is tops for me with ROTS right behind it. I just love the setting, the choreography, cinematography... how the sabers look against snowfall and smoke, and of course when Rey shonens the saber away from Ren.

Am I the only one who liked the "I rebel" line? There has to be others, come on, speak up. We must defend Jyn's honor.

The line is okay. Her delivery is pretty bad. Hopefully she's better in the rest of the movie because I loved everything else in the trailer.

I've always found the prequel fights to be really boring. No tension, nothing at stake, no weight or heft or impact, and they were all filmed very badly.

At any rate - it will actually be a nice change of pace to not have a saber fight. For being a prequel, I'm mostly interested in how this film will differentiate itself in style and focus.

The prequel duels lack some tension due to the fact that we know the outcomes of them. Any fights that involve Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and The Emperor all lose a bit of their luster because we already know that those 4 characters will survive and mostly unscathed. The Clone Wars TV series had the same problem for me, which is why i found Asoka fights far more interesting.

My duel rankings

ESB
ROTS
TFA
ROTJ
TPM
ANH = AOTC

You can now stone me to death

My duel rankings are
ROTJ
ESB
TFA
TPM
ROTS
ANH
AOTC

After TFA finally scratched that itch of the main story after Episode 6 for the last several decades for me and was essentially a well done retelling of A New Hope here and there though good movie overall, if this teaser is any indication, I think I might get more hyped for this movie than I did for VII.

I want more lightsaber fights akin to the prequels. Those were great, and very visceral and stylistic.

The only lightsaber fight I really liked in the OT was ROTJ's because it meant something.

Visceral...I do not think it means what you think it means....
The prequel saber fights were formless hollow fluff dancing and baton twirling. Garbage.
And do not go the the wanna be fan boy throw back of the Maul fight because what made that was when it stopped being dancey and they started throwing down.

I disagree about tension; more often than not someone was hurt or killed. Qui-Gon was ran through, Maul sliced in half, Anakin's arm being cut off, Anakin's limbs being severed and then burning alive... so I had no problems with tension, but at the same time I was into the story and characters while it doesn't seem like you really were, so that probably plays a part :p
I was meaning more tension between the characters. Maul and the Jedi fight just because in TPM. They even have him dead to rights with a dozen blasters pointed at him while he's standing there, and Qui-gon sends them away just so they can fight. So there's no reason for the fight other than good vs. evil, and even less reason in the plot because if Qui-gon wanted the Sith dead, he'd have yelled, "Fire!"

So before the fight even starts, I don't care because it's contrived and I'm not invested in the outcome.

Pretty sure we're actually on the same page for the most part, as TFA duel is also my favorite. Grounded but stylish and hard hitting choreography, stunningly beautiful setting, characters that have a reason to fight, etc. Just thought I'd clarify what I originally meant about why I don't like the prequel fights.

I find that people criticize originality because they don't actually know enough to criticize filmmaking or storytelling.

In fact, that thing that (proverbial) you praise because of its originality isn't actually original. You just don't know the works that it references.

Also, SMH at people who say that this looks YA. What, because the lead is female? Well ok then.

Yeah... I know what you mean. For me I liked the tension between Maul and Kenobi after Qui-Gon's death and was fine with the tension between Anakin and Kenobi. I dunno, I thought they looked awesome, were scored super well, and worked in the story. I didn't think the fights were meaningless or hollow.

I also just think Qui-Gon didn't want them to get hurt, and Maul was this unknown factor to them and he thought it would be wiser to get everyone else away. When does shooting at a Sith ever work lol

????
Everyone and their mom knows where Star Wars gets its influences from. The Hidden Fortress, Flash Gordon, Hero with a Thousand Faces, etc. But A New Hope wasn't a shot-for-shot remake of THF. People need to just stop making up all this bullshit to give excuses when the truth is that people were disappointed by TFA, myself included.

I swear I remember hearing about a Jedi version of Seven Samurai or something.

That was Zack Snyder's pitch to Lucasfilm waaaaaay back before anything about spinoffs got announced, I think.

People are hoping that idea is being saved for a Kenobi movie set on tatooine. Although nobody's actually said that's being pursued at all, or even that a Kenobi movie is on the table.

Yeah, Zach Snyder was going to direct that. So, dodged a blaster on that one.

Oh, ok. Thanks.
