To be fair, we don't exactly know what degree of murder this man should be charged with. Perhaps Smith made a threat on his life? I'm not saying he did, just speaking in hypotheticals.

In any scenario it's a tragic waste of life.
And that justifies shooting the mans wife too ?

i thought this was about the fresh prince.

Sad news regardless

So did I.

But besides that, RIP.

Whu... what? Why even bring this up at all? There is no justification for a shooting.

Awful. That's a tragic and fucking stupid way to be killed. Incredibly sad when someone is so eager to end a life over something so trivial. RIP =(

Crazy thinking about the last photo was taken just an hour prior. So fucking tragic and sad to think about.

His kids are gonna wake up tomorrow with their dad gone and their mom in the hospital.

Fucking hell. Trying not to cry just thinking about it.

This is why, even as a native of Louisiana, I am fucking scared to drive through certain parts of New Orleans. Fuck the son of a bitch who did this.

Pretty much a perfect case for why guns shouldn't be allowed outside of the home. Under normal circumstances everyone walks away, even if they get into it, and actually exchange blows. Instead, one person is so angry that instead of chancing a fist fight they go straight for their gun, or they felt threatened and a gun is there to give them complete control and power over the situation.

RIP.

I hope you do realize that if the other guy had a gun this would never have happened.

Exactly why I don't talk to people or get into shit with people. Cowards are so quick to pick up a fucking gun, for every little thing. Anyone can shoot a fucking gun, learn how to fucking fight with your hands. Fuck this pisses me off, becuase I can relate to a situation similar to this.

America, we have a gun problem. In the old days that's a basic argument or a fight and everyone lives to talk about it. This is senseless.

I'll only say one thing about this here, but man does this drive home the fucking stupidity of my states gun laws.

Where a car is an extension of the home and therefore something like a handgun is perfectly legal to keep loaded on the front seat of a car. Just in case a bout of road rage creates a moment of loss of control and you need to shoot someone you rear ended.

Now i have no idea how this whole thing transpired but it just drives home how goddamn stupid our laws are for a state that has gun death rates that rival Brazil and is challenging Columbia. And if lax gun laws prevent gun violence, why the fuck is one of the laxest states having one of the highest gun death rates in the country year over year?? We keep laxing them up and the crime keeps happening. So whats up?

Fixed.

There is no logical reason for adults to be getting into fights (let alone shooting anyone) over trivial shit like this.

Yes because the guy who pulled a gun out and shot Smith through the windshield would of never happened if Smith had a gun and would of went into John Woo mode and slow mo'd out his gun and fired a round off before the killer could of pulled the trigger.

Life is not a fucking Die Hard movie.

Fucking Hell man. Taking a human life is heinous but fuck its especially heinous when they are parents. These kids don't deserve to wake up and realize that they will never see their dad again. That shit just isn't fair.

It's scary to think about how legitimately insane random people are out there in the world.

RIP. I feel awful for his wife and kids.

Fuck that's disgusting. Did they catch the guy who did it? What kind of messed up mind would kill someone over a traffic collision?

Man wtf over a minor car accident?

I know..this is why you always gotta try to stay calm and collective because you don't know what kind of fucking lunatic is on the other side. RIP and hope the suspect gets some hard time

Yes hes in custody and they have the weapon

Knew he was shot. Just had a gut feeling before opening thread.

Amazingly this was my first thought too, and I'm not even from the US. Just the reputation the US has been developing I guess.

I'm all for gun control, but to demonize the NRA to this extent is just ridiculous. They aren't cartoonish, mustache-twirling villains that rejoice when people suffer.

They're not far from it tbh.

Sad news, I am always saddened when someone's life ends prematurely at the hands of idiots. We lose so many good people.

I cannot imagine how I would even be able to live in the US, where every moron has a gun and can shoot you at any second, in school, in the supermarket, in traffic... That is just insane, almost a form of terrorism.

You should change the law and require people carrying guns to wear a "I am a lunatic" sign at all times, so normal people can stay away from them.

This was no place to be playing devils advocate or victim blaming. Take the lashes or edit your comments.

Very sad, RIP.

Sorry, take the lashes? Are you a moderator now? I'm not hiding anything, and I would rather leave my comments to show I was wrong and admit it rather than edit an incorrect statement I made.

Horrifying. Viewing the happy pictures from just a short time before is just so sad :(

How can a situation get escalated from what should have been "sorry man, are you hurt? Here are my insurance papers" to "grabs gun, shoots man dead"?

My childhood dream, and later my goal for the future as an early adult, was to one day move to the United States, but now I'm too scared to even visit.

A place where everyone potentially carries a gun and may end my life if he wants is not a place where I want to be, at all.

I don't follow football anymore. I understand it doesn't matter how good or bad he was and that he shouldn't have been shot and that's horrible that someone shot at them during an accident.

But is he quite known in the NFL? A top de? Doesn't matter, just curious.

Fairly well known and a good player, but not recently active in the NFL. One-time Pro Bowler and won a Super Bowl with the Saints. Decade long career, hadn't played in an actual game since 2013.

Lol, not trying to throw shade at you, just thought it was funny.

Dw about other members trying to act like they have any measure of authority over you, just try to make sure you're 100% clear next time and convey your comments as thoroughly as possible.

All good man.

Fucking hell. Why did the guy have a gun to begin with? To literally shoot down arguments he couldn't win because he was the one causing the accident here? Cause I get the feeling he did not have it to "defend his life and property" when he also fucking wounded the wife.

My condolences to the victims of yet another pointless death. :(

I am not American, so I don't have direct contact with NRA members, but everything that I've experienced of them so far through the net and people I've talked with in America have painted the picture that the NRA is a bunch of villainous idiots who rather protect the right to unnecessarily have a shitton of guns than protect lives. They couldn't give a less shit who gets hurt in the process as long as they get to masturbate over their pistols and assault rifles.

Wasn't it the President of the NRA who said something about "You can take my gun out of my cold, dead hands" a while ago when there was another proposal of a gun control bill (not a outright ban), meaning that he would rather kill other people than just surrender if he was on the wrong side of the law? That sounds pretty fucking lunatic, not cartoonish, mustache-twirling villanous.

You also have to be a fucking lunatic to revere a amendment so much that the NRA does. A amendment from a time when America was under the threat of British invasion and the possibility of having to draft a militia from the American population was a possible necessity. Who the fuck is America under the threat of invasion now? Russia? You see this shit of Constitution wanking only in America and mostly if not exclusively on the Republican side, together with groups like the NRA. That is lunacy when the standard of the world is "Oh yeah, we have a constitution, can't remember what it was but its sorta important I guess."

In Sweden (and most other parts of the world) we have sorta something like that, its when you wear anything else but a police uniform and carrying a gun in public you have informed the public around you that you are fucking batshit insane and people need to run, fast.

Horrible. :(

Most people who carry guns in public keep them concealed. Open carry isn't even legal everywhere in the US.

Here's a statement from police regarding the incident, but in short: Smith was rear-ended by another driver, causing him to rear-end a car that was in front of him. He ended up exchanging words with the driver that hit him, who then shot him and wounded his wife.

Wow, that really is awful. Some people really are awful, awful human beings. I hope the person who shot them both is going to be in jail away from society for a long, long time.

RIP :(

Yes, but not giving a shit over who gets hurt in the process isn't quite the same thing as celebrating the fact that a former NFL player has been murdered, is it.

That's horrible, I hope the wife will be ok.

edit:

holy shit I just read that police report. WTF? The guy killed him and almost the wife over some dumb rear end accident?
JESUS fuck
