I'd like to think a tragedy involving someone high-profile like this would get a conversation started.

I'd like to think that.

RIP

I'm all for gun control, but to demonize the NRA to this extent is just ridiculous. They aren't cartoonish, mustache-twirling villains that rejoice when people suffer.
Like hell they aren't.

they very well might not be but It's going to take more than your word to convince me of that.

At the least when things like this happens it makes people scared enough to buy or try owning a gun for protection. They must love the fear that causes people to want to buy a gun. More money for their gun manufacturer partners.

I had a talk with my uncle, a person that should not even be considering owning a gun (big christian, old guy). At the end of the talk he came to the conclusion that he must not have enough faith to live without a gun. I even told him about how news thrive on selling fear for ratings, and sponsors, that the news channels may be owned by a company that have some buddy ties to gun manufacturers and he's just falling into their program. His slow reactions, and poor sight may get someone shot, or add another gun to a criminal's collection (he may not even cross a criminal, his house is a security fortress, etc.).

I remember watching him dominate at OSU. RIP big guy.

Fucked up way to go. Over a stupid fender bender.

Takes me an hour and a half plus to get home from work everyday and the amount of road rage that I see is ridiculous. With the amount of crazy people with guns nowadays I don't even dare honk at someone who does something stupid. I will take my loss and then move on.

Any news on the wife yet? Hoping she pulls through. Pierre Thomas' comments will be interesting as well

A buckeye great, rest easy big man

:(

Was awesome.. They don't win the National Championship without him against Miami.

Holy shit, all over a little car accident? My natural reaction is always "is everyone okay?!", not this... not like that... RIP :(

Can't think of too many deaths more senseless than this. A beloved man lies dead and more than a few lives are ruined and for what? Metal and pride? I hope the best for Racquel Smith and her family.

Nice b8 m8. Any humane country or person wouldn't think death is an appropriate penalty. But Americans and America generally aren't humane.

Either way it's tragic. I hate death so much.

RIP Mr. SMITH

BUT FUCK THIS QUOTE. generalize much? This doesn't usually fly on GAF and I hope it isnt a new trend.

I have no love for the death penalty, but you're outright coming in here looking to pick a fight and that last line proves it. Way to generalize.

Nonetheless, this event is tragic and I hope the person who shot him goes to prison for the rest of their life. Absolute nonsense for someone to get shot to death over a car accident.

RIP Smith. Beyond tragic.

The Associated Press ‏@AP

BREAKING: Suspect charged with second-degree murder in shooting death of former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith.

I just found out that the shooter's girlfriend/mother of one of his kids is one of my cousin's oldest friends. I've known her for most of my life.

Mate, I'm not American but you're treading a very fine line there. I'd suggest editing in an apology before someone concludes that your shit-tier contributions aren't worth the space on the page.

Absolutely disgusting. Any new news about the shooter? Why someone would end someone's life and throw their own life away over a simple traffic accident is just hard to wrap my mind around.

Is the wife doing OK?

The hell they aren't. NRA is one of the most vile organizations in this country. Anything to help increase gun sales is AOK with them. They want more guns on the streets. They want more violence. And they fight tooth and nail against any legislation that might help to curb gun violence.

The alleged murderer appears to be criminal scum and I doubt the firearm was legally obtained since he has a rapsheet.

Nah. After children were slaughtered at Columbine, the NRA and its supporters cheered to the phrase "From my cold dead hands"

Sorry, but you are historically wrong on this.

Sad. I assisted a wreck victim that I witnessed on Friday, it's crazy to think how routine accidents can turn into road rage and murders. I'd wager the shooters bac was above zero at the time. Such senseless violence over an object. Can't imagine the pain the kids are and will suffer due to this, hopefully he left them resources and a life insurance policy. Feel bad story of the young day.

He was a great buckeye. RIP.

If classrooms full of kids can't get lasting change, a football player sure as hell won't.

Classroom of Kindergartners was killed and the NRA and those who support them stood up and proudly declared "well isn't that a shame".

Nothing is changing for a LONG time.

What will the NRAS statement be on this? I assume something along the lines, If only he had a gun to protect himself, this needless death would have been averted.

Is your hate for death greater than or less than your love of stereotyping over 300 million people with the broadest of brushes?

Is there any information on how he was apprehended?

That's not even a bad part of town. So random and senseless :(

Guessing it was pretty easy to identify him if the car was left at the scene. The story says nothing about it being stolen, so his name probably would have came right up.

edit:

\/ Or that.

sorry, I'm a card carrying member and theyre complete pieces of shit as far as the gun lobby is concerned.

my friend and I have a debate going about whether lobbyists are to blame. he says you don't blame a shark for being a shark. but, i say, you are not a shark. so if you're not affected at all by watching a shark rip something into bloody pieces, something is wrong with you. Lobbyists overstep their bounds and just like the financial industry and free markets, they have somehow convinced authority that regulating them, giving them rules, and keeping them under some kind of control is a BAD thing. This is not sustainable, and its pretty clearly irresponsible.

I wonder if all of this will get the charges changed to first degree murder?

New Orleans isn't the biggest city but this is a coincidence I can't see just happening.

Former Saints security guard who may or may not have an ax to grind with a guy that just had dinner with a cop that apparently was involved in the shooting of his mentally ill father that charged officers with a knife(cops story so who knows). Rams said victim he likely knows and shoots him through the windshield. Sounds pretty pre-meditated from what I can gather.

Tyrann Mathieu (Arizona Cardinals player, went to college in Louisiana) posted on twitter that he knows the guy who did this. According to him the guy has always been a scum bag.
