so many words for "it sold well"
What do you expect them to say? They're comparing it to new IPs because that is what it is.
I mean, they aren't going to say "Its a game which sold 1/5 (?) of Halo 5s opening" or something are they...
Right, but the article isn't from MS. It's from Eurogamer. So did MS tell Specify to Eurogamer what "best selling" means, and tell them it means something different than every other time they use the phrase.
Like I said , I wouldn't put it past them.
I don't know why they would think that. Same thing that Ubisoft said after the division's first week. They weren't saying it outsold games ltd. just best opening. This was the best opening for a new MS IPCould use more accurate words like "fastest selling" instead of "best selling", could use "in the UK" instead of nothing, could use "this week" instead of nothing.
Many poster think it's out sold SO & Ryse world wide LTD with those words.

The PAL Charts thread has some first week UK numbers/estimates: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1206590
QB ~28K
Alan Wake ~36K
The Order 1886 ~40K
I'm merely asking a question, not expecting anything. Are you expecting the game to take 1st place in April's NPD? How the hell did this sell 1M+ first week? If you even barely follow sales you know it'a not possible.
If they had sold that in one week, they'd be shouting from rooftops.
Why does Halo not count as an MS Studios IP?

I would guess that they are also including bundle sales so that would probably help the number alsoCould be real thou, Greenberg keep saying its best selling MS new IP globally. So we should take his word for it.
28K in UK plus the rest of the world and digital, who knows? Over 1m within a week is possible I guess.

I thought Ori was a Microsoft Studios title?
Unless the digital sales are much higher than usual, as well as the w10 sales much higher than expected, I can't see how this game outsold Ryse in one week.Could be real thou, Greenberg keep saying its best selling MS new IP globally. So we should take his word for it.

I'm not sure what to make of The Order, but by these numbers I think Quantum Break compares favorably to Alan Wake. Consider that at the time Alan Wake launched:
1) The Xbox 360 was the most popular console (aside from the Wii which had a different type of audience).
2) Digital Downloads were less prevalent than they are today.

That Titanfall thread reminded me. Curiously they don't count Titanfall as one of their own IPs. I know they don't own it, but neither do they own Ryse or SO. And I know EA published Titanfall, but MS aren't the sole publisher on Ryse either. Crytek and Deep Silver were also involved. Presumably if this did better than that they'd find a way to spin their wording to mention that somehow. So it's probably safe to assume that it didn't.

The UK and the US are the only markets where the Xbone is popular. Sales in the rest of the world are going to be negligible.
Ori has no retail release.
No retail release iirc
Maybe sold well in Finland?
The devs are Finnish. Is this an inside joke I don't understand?
so if it did worse than The Order is remedy in trouble?
this seems like some heavy spin and context to tie the word "best-selling" to this game.
Gut feeling says Remedy might already be in trouble.so if it did worse than The Order is remedy in trouble?

I see. Should of gotten one...relative to whatever MS put out at launch it's a solid casual title...if marketed that way.
Gut feeling says Remedy might already be in trouble.
...what is this based on?Remedy is probably going to be fine as well because it seems MS is pleased with the game (and the sales).
...what is this based on?
And your gut thinks this why?
PR is always gonna PR.Tweets? I'll edit it to "it seems?"
PR is always gonna PR.
Combination of both: lack of return investment on the IP(still in the air) if it doesn't make profit for them and MS cutting fat like crazy with studio closings(Lionhead being the recent one). And your gut thinks this why?
That has nothing to do with how actually happy they are.Of course... but they are PRing this more than Sunset Overdrive.

Yes but considering the install base when Ryse launched and the actual install base...Ryse actually sold pretty well, so this is good news.
That list will look better soon with ReCore, Scalebound, and Sea of Thieves just around the corner.
