Dark Souls 3 PC performance thread

i7-4710HQ
GTX 850m (nigh-identical to the 950m from what I've read)
8GB DDR3

High preset

720p: 40-50 fps
900p: 28-35 fps
1080p: 18-21 fps

Lowering the preset to Low added about 5~ fps, seems to do very little.

I've only tested up to the area after the first boss, will update if any other areas seem to act much differently. Haven't experienced any crashes. Should note that trying to use my dualshock 4 with DS4Windows didn't seem to work (EDIT: an option to only use xinput fixed this), so I settled for my Xbox One controller which was treated as plug-and-play.

Forgot to mention, my performance with my 970 is based on old drivers (358.87).

Ah, bummer. That's no good.

Thanks for testing it, in any case!

Weird.

When I first launched the game it sat on a white screen for an uncomfortably long time, then went to a black screen for an equally uncomfortable period, and then loaded into the normal "NAMDAI" title screen sequence and game loaded OK. I really thought it was going to crash or error out before that.

I was able to get into the main menu on my first boot but ended up quitting to desktop so I could change something. Haven't been able to get back in :( Gonna try to update Nvidia drivers I guess (are those even safe to update anymore?)

i7 2600k
GTX 970
16GB DDR3 2133 Mhz RAM
500GB Samsung EVO 850 SSD
Windows 10

I've been getting that a lot lately, is it confirmed to be recent NVIDIA drivers? Whenever I see my gpu clock at 600ish and not move, then I know I have to reboot. ;/

I don't know if it is recent drivers though I heard that they seem to give a lot of people problems. Maybe it helps to revert to stable confirmed working drivers? Or you could manually set the clock each time using Afterburner... But it definitly should be done automatically and the one doing that should be the driver.

Tried lowering the lighting to Low, but the game still crashes every time I kill one of the two enemies guarding the Homeward Bone shortly after the first boss.

The game crashed twice at the first bonfire and once after I opened the giant door post-first boss. Had to de-equip everything to get past the latter.

I've tried several different things, from no shield to shield, no armor to armor, to lowering some settings, etc. Still crashes at that one spot.

I was able to get to Firelink and rest there and talk to everyone, but as soon as I double-back and try to kill those two dudes guarding the Homeward Bone, it crashes. :(

What sucks is the game is running fine otherwise with my i5-3570K overclocked to 4.5GHz and my Radeon 7950.

pretty much my experience, same vga but i have a 4670k on the pc i'm trying

just add some crash at the start and during the character creation

fuck this, to paraphrase someone

staying up late was a mistake, nothing but crash

I'm not using DS4windows (I need drivers for DS3 and DS4 and therefore I use SCP DS3 for both) but I know you have to change an option in the settings of that software to only use xinput.

That would fix your issue.

Thanks a bunch, updated my post to reflect that.

I'm really not sure why but the sound, and wind in particular, is ridiculously wonky. Everytime I try to do anything the wind starts and stops again and again. It's actually disorienting me now. Not really a problem in Firelink, but it's really killing my ambiance.

Graphics are fine though. Some occasional hitches on my i5 and GTX 970.

i7-6700k & GTX 780 running 1080p60 with most of the settings maxed but experiencing LOTS of crashes.
Going to try out with Low Lightning now, happens when sitting or exiting Bonfire mostly, or when dying and respawning.
I hope they fix this soon.

Running a GTX760, 8GIGS and an I3 and am able to get 55-60FPS on High with Medium Motion and Shadow, Low Lighting, and SSAO off if anyone is curious.

Thought I was the first one to notice this! Seems like a strange audio issue and wondering if it's my speaker setup

Win 10
Scarlett 2i2 USB interface
Rokit 6 G2 speakers

The wind sound in the starting area seems to hitch every time I read a note and when other audio effects (eg. puddle splashes) go off it seems to "dim" the wind background sound

I don't know if it matters or not but I get a solid 60 fps with 980ti SLI on everything max (which makes sense), BUT I have motion blur all the way off.I hate it so I never use it and am wondering if that could be an issue. No crashes yet so maybe someone can test it out.

Here's some low end stats.

i3-2100
GTX 750ti
8GB Ram

1080p and everything on low I can get a fluctuating framerate from around 35-60, usually it's in the 40s. Totally playable with my crappy cpu. I have a 120hz monitor so I might try capping that at 40 and see how it goes. I've only played an hour though, maybe later areas will kill my cpu?

I have noticed some dropped inputs when attacking with R1 using a Wii U Pro controller and a Mayflash adapter. Could just be my setup.

EDIT
Hah, looks like they changed the minimum requirements and it's pretty much exactly what I have.

I'm having an issue where the game will make a strange noise, my screens will turn black, and I can't actually do anything. My screens remain black and neither my keyboard or controller respond. All I can hear is the game's ambient wind noises.

I've had to force a shutdown on my computer twice so far.

The first time it happened while making my way back to the first bonfire, the second time happened just after the tutorial boss died.

The first time I was on high settings (it was the default for me), the second on medium settings.

I have an i7-3770k processor and a Geforce GTX 680 videocard. I know the 680 is kinda meh now, but I wasn't expecting such a big problem running a Souls game on medium. :(

Can anyone confirm if this is straight up a GPU issue, or is something else going on?

I've noticed the stutter when the game autosaves. I haven't seen that in any of the other Souls games. Performance seems excellent otherwise. Here's hoping I don't get those crashes.

R9 280 3GB, FX-8320 and 8gb.
No matter what settings I use or resolutions (720p and 1080p), framerate hovers between 30-40 fps.
Performance with high settings 1080p is almost same as 720p low settings.

It feels like something is capping framerate really badly, is there a way to disable ingame vsync if you have amd system?

I must say, even playing at 30-40fps, it feels somewhat smooth. No framepacing issues like in bloodborne.

4670k
760

Game seems to be in the 40's and 50's with everything maxed out at 1080p. Instead of fiddling around I'm just gonna lock it down to 30. Never seems to go below that.

Got two crashes at the first bonfire though. Probably gonna wait until they take a look at that.

Same I will wait for 1.04.

Same. Hope for a fix soon because outside of that it's butter.

And now I can't kill even a single enemy in the game without it crashing. Even went back to the first area where the game begins and any killed enemy results in a crash.

Even tested this with everything set to low.

Game's running pretty well for me at 1440p with a 970 in the beginning area. 57-60 FPS. With gsync, that's barely noticeable. I assume it'll get worse, but for now it's nice to have a sharp image. If I have to drop it to 1080p later, I guess I will.

r290 / 4770k

Game was crashing every couple minutes. I disabled my OC and turned off SSAO. I've been going good for about 30 minutes now.

Yeah...thought my SSD would handle that.

So the fix for the constant bonfire crashing is to switch Lighting Quality to "low". Got it.

It's loading the area. Only place this happens.

Reposting here; anyone getting a weird graphical glitch with their armor. Really takes you out of the game. Everything else runs fine except this.

Same as this guy. Thought my SSD would have a problem loading in an area for that long.

went though first area and had no crashes yet running at a solid 60 fps at 1080p with everything on max except DOF. I turned DOF off because I think it looks better. On an OC'd 2500k with a 970 on a SSD. I did run into one weird hitch/ stutter though.

Also anyone know if reshade is safe to use? This preset looks stunning I tested it and it started to drop to 55.

win 10
gtx 970
i5 4690k (stock clock)
16 GB ram
game is installed on an ssd

using the high preset at 1080p. running mostly 60 fps with the odd hitch. passed the first boss and messed around in firelink shrine as well as around it

Got an 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor, game blackbars 3440 while stretching any resolutions lower than that, weird. got consistent 60 fps except for hitches every 20 or so seconds. 980 & 2500k
