Thank God Joss Wheadon isn't directing this. I don't think I could handle two more films worth of endless quips.

It's because Marvel nerfed him.

Hell Drax can fly in the comics and has energy blast projections.

Drax lost those when he was reborn as Green!Kratos, which is the version actually associated with the Guardians. He was made into a bit too much of a jobber, but outside of lowering his strength, they didn't nerf him too badly.

Gamora, on the other hand, went from being the most dangerous woman in the galaxy with a rapid healing factor and super strength with a special sword that can kill gods, to seeming like just a normal green human with a regular sword.

I really loved GoTG and the prospect of Starlord interacting with Tony Stark is exciting.

However I'd have really liked the Guardians remain distinct from the Avengers and the earth crew and continue having jolly adventures in space!

please die ASAP so your screentime is minimal thx
Agreed. But if we're being fair, we'll need to kill off the ones who aren't as good as Starlord before we waste him. So let's start with....

Tony Stark
Vision
Black Widow
Scarlet Witch
Pepper Pots
Jane Foster
War Machine
Hawkeye
Thor
Ant-Man
Spider-Man
Captain America
Hulk
Starlord

Am I missing anyone?

Not exactly surprising to hear about this, especially given Bautista's rumored larger role for Avengers: Infinity War. I wasn't a fan of Space Avengers, felt it was very unbalanced in terms of tone and Christ Pratt in particular was just a retread of Tony Stark minus the charisma, but if this means more of Bautista of Drax, i'll live.

You just started a war!

You know Drax is going to show up because killing Thanos is kinda his deal, and given that he's the least popular GotG I think we're going to see the whole crew.

Edit: wait, does MCU Drax care at all about Thanos? Maybe I'm thinking of comics.
All Drax spoke about in the movie was about killing Thanos.

Wait we hate the Guardians Of Galaxy now...hard keep track what GAF hates after a few months

I don't hate it. On a second watch I just thought it was pretty mediocre.

I like the world they've created, but the actual movie was disappointing for me.

I actually liked it more the second time I saw it. I was pretty confused about some stuff the first time, the second time I got those things.

I thought the whole idea of the guardians was how removed they were from the rest of the marvel universe?

The whole idea of Thanos as a villain and the Infinity Gauntlet as a macguffin is that it brings the entire Marvel Universe; cape, magic and cosmic, together.

Figuratively, they are when they're in their own movies. They deal with plenty of non-human characters on not Earth settings. I doubt there's meant to be a literal separation between the characters appearances in films.

If it's just Star Lord and not the rest. Or if the other Guardians get a glorified cameo, no. Star Lord is the worst character in his movie.

While people tend to harp on Joss for his dialog, I never really saw a problem with it. From my recollection, comics have done quips in the heart of danger quite a lot. It could be cheesy at times, but it's not unrealistic given the source material.

At least I don't find much of a problem with this. To me, it's more certainly not an aspect that weighs these(the MCU) movies down, as long as it is the right people tossing the quips. Ultron, on the other hand...

It makes sense considering its galactic. The shit about them never crossing over that James Gunn was talking about was kind of distressing.

No shit?

You've got Thanos wrecking up the galaxy and he was in guardians so of course the guardians are gonna be in infinity war

Everyone will in infinity war , tv shows , Netflix ,
Everyone vs Thanos
Thanos gonna kill a lot of heroes :O

Iron man X captain X Thor are dying in infinity war
Disney won't keep paying them X it's time for them to exit

I imagine it was difficult already with Evans and Hemsworth, but a third Chris on set should cause more confusing shenanigans among the cast.

Maybe Gamora and Drax won't be nerf as fuck with the Russo's at helm and actually be useful, hopefully those two will show up, did not like how James Gunn handled those two characters.

Yet the plot revolved around the same gems all the other movies are based/building up around?
Please...

Sure? It's a shitty McGuffin, but that doesn't mean they need to tie the characters together, or that anyone has to visit Earth. I feel like it should take something major to get Starlord back to his home planet, something worthy of his own film. Granted, maybe I shouldn't make the assumption they'll meet on Earth.
