I kinda think Tony's right. What makes superheroes above it all? The powers they have? There need to be checks and balances...they shouldn't have absolute power. #TeamStark

Why the hell are thread titles spoiling plot points of a movie?

Not everyone has read the comics and I am sure some of the people who haven't do not want any of the movie spoiled for them (like me).

Sorry about that. Can a mod change the thread title to "New clip presents the superhero registration debate in Captain America 3"?

And yet he's still leaning into bad ideas.

Except not really?

Cap, despite all his honesty and really thinking his ideas are for the best, could do nothing to stop Tony or his mistakes in Age of Ultron, whereas government oversight would at least have meant it took more than tony having a bad idea and talking one friend in to a mistake that nearly caused a global extinction event.

Up to Winter Solider, really, the little we saw of them (as the avengers) had them mostly working for Shield, whether Steve wants to admit it or not. Nick Fury being in charge worked out far better than the only real comparison we have so far (of Tony and Steve basically at the helm) in AoU. Now of course, the whole hydra thing is/was a big problem, which would obviously need to be avoided from repeating, but still...

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Only thing that the comic and the movie share is the title. And if it bothers you that much then I don't think you should be in this thread.

He's in the thread so he can tell the OP to title his threads better.

It would be one thing if the OP left the registration part in the OP, but he put it in the damn title for everyone to see.

It's literally in every trailer for the film.

It's the premise of the film. It's NOT a spoiler.

he thinks they need to be put in check. by who? and those "who", how are we to know their judgement is what should rule all others?

it's hilarious how the marketing for this film completely capitalizes on the natural tendencies of folks to want to #pickateam

and the choices are almost always emotional

and we all totally buy into this "choice" frame thinking it's an actual choice

it's kind of brilliant. I've gotta give it up for Marvel Marketing, people will write theses on this

It was the same thing for BvS. I don't think anyone is actually fooled, but it's fun in a silly way.

We all know they're going to team up at the end anyways.

Please Cap, you don't actually have the right to choose how you want to be a vigilante.

Cap is anti-reg because of muh Bucky. Iron Man is pro-reg because he knows that one should be accountable for one's actions, or else we get stuff like Ultron.

The registration is the entire premise how's that a spoiler

If you are on blackout and don't view trailers or read comics, you have no idea what 'registration' is. I think thats the posters point. The thread is fine, but leave the detail to the actual OP so people skimming the Off Topic board don't have even what you consider to be minor details spoiled.

By elected/appointed officials of a countries, something like that. I mean why should they have free reign?

Exactly, that politicians have agendas does not invalidate that all of these guys operate above the law.

I don't doubt Cap's motivations to be sincere, but "the ends justify the means" is not good enough. You still would have the right to choose bro, what you are doing is choosing to break the law. If in the end you did it "for the greater good" it will be taken into consideration when your actions are judged, but that still means you accepted the responsibility beforehand to handwaive the laws of the land to do it.

Right now you are not.

Nah. Knowing this doesn't affect your enjoyment of the film at all. It's just assholish to police other people's conversations so that you can have a "pristine" experience.

oh I know! I love these films, I'm not trying to be a drag

but we all know it will be #teamAvengers in the end

and the frame of the choice, the hashtag marketing, all the setup is quite amazingly executed... the mass psychology being leveraged is top notch. I say this in an admiring way, not a cynical one, but only because this is an entertainment product

to the frame, Captain America doesn't seem to want to take orders, which does strike me as thoroughly against his worldview, so I'm curious to see how they play this..
"we'll do it together, unless they tell me not to do something, in which case, I will disobey... for the team" #what

Notice how all the people with any intelligence are on #TeamIronMan while the other side are just a bunch of thugs.

The comic story aside, there's nothing about Tony's behavior the entire MCU besides the ending of AoU that suggests to me he would be pro-registration. He acted on his on in Iron Man 1-3, Avengers and AoU. But suddenly he's all responsible and feels bad about prior disasters the team has been involved in because the story dictates it.

As far as I've seen, Tony and Steve should be on the same page. We're playing into the "Tony is an asshole" angle because he is so in the comics. I'm not buying it. Both Tony and Steve have the same amount of dirt on their hands in the MCU. Yeah, there's apparently
that one lady that tries to guilt trip him because of her son
along with Thunderbolt Ross, but Tony has seen and lived worse. A couple of appeals to his emotions shouldn't be able to sway him.
