Parity with PS4K is totally fine.
It would still mean Nintendo has the most powerful system (tied with PS4K) on the market.

I was talking about the parity with Xbox One / PS4 people seem to expect.
This would be a huge mistake for Nintendo, if they decide to launch an already irrelevant piece of hardware in terms of processing power.
The NX will not be a fully traditional console. If it has ps4 performance, has an appealing gimmick / innovation and is priced right I believe it has a chance.

I don't see the point in discussing specs and b/c. This is Nintendo and Nintendo said the NX is a new concept. They aren't going to make a better PS4 or speedier Wii U.

I expect them to attempt what they did with the Wii and DS. Make something truly unique, new and fun.

Any mention of unprecedented 3rd party support means nothing. They always say crap like that. The Wii U had lots of this "3rd party support" at launch. Time Warner. Ubisoft. Activision. EA. Capcom.

Thanks for the update, y'all. Pretty excited if we can finally get some solid info on the specs. I think I gotta avoid reddit for a good month. Any idea how long verification usually takes?

We don't know what the PS4K is and how much it will cost.

Performance parity with the PS4K might mean the system would cost $400+. That would mean absolute death for Nintendo. There are no magic mystery chips that Nintendo has access to that other people don't. At best we can expect slightly better performance than PS4 at a similar cost. They are better off risking bring "irrelevant". We can only hope it's as irrelevant as the Wii was in 2006.

I would be fine with that too.
But gimmick and innovation don't have to come at a price, you can have both a powerful console, with good innovation.

The wiimote plus doesn't cost as much as the gamepad, and I'd bet that most of GAF would consider it a vastly superior "gimmick".

Nirolak and Bish have been notified. Just waiting on them. And if my info is true, which has multiple sources, not just one, you can throw that reddit post above me in the garbage.

We would've thrown it in the garbage anyway :P

The Wii U could have scared them, perhaps tbey are ready to take a loss now for a future gain?

You mean take it back out the garbage, laugh at it again, then throw it back in.

I don't agree with that.
Nintendo's core audience is gamers who grew up playing their consoles and games, and are now fully capable of buying a relatively high priced piece of hardware, if it delivers on both power, innovation, and games.

Their biggest mistake with the Wii U, and what probably makes you think that they have to target a low price point, is trying to bank on the market of casual gamers like they did with the Wii.
They saw with the Wii U that this market they tapped into with the previous generation was already gone, it's highly volatile.

What do they have left ? What's their potential market ?
Core gamers, just like Sony and Microsoft are targetting.

Look at how well PS4 is selling.
Tell anyone who has been loving gaming for a long time a 400$ Nintendo console, powerful, with good third party support and the amazing first party titles made by Nintendo is coming, they'd buy it in a heart-beat.
If this is what the NX is, GAF will line up to throw their money in front of Nintendo HQ, I guarantee it.

I doubt Nintendo's going to try for a $400-$500 super box.

I'm guessing they'll try and just sneak in above XB1/PS4 specs wise while figuring out some way to undercut them in terms of cost. At least, that's probably what I'd try to do.

I'm fairly certain the Wii U's failure has Nintendo embarrassed and working harder than ever. I don't think it means that they've lost touch with reality and think they can buy increased market share by taking big losses on hardware.

Microsoft and Sony did that once and it cost them billions of dollars and they still didn't "win the living room" like they had hoped. That war has now moved onto Apple, Roku, Smart TV's, etc.

Which is totally doable.
PS4 and Xbox One are 2-3 years old tech.

Nintendo can achieve better in terms of performance for 350$, very probably.

I'm sure the NX will have third-party support at launch. Nintendo consoles usually do. I expect some of the holiday heavy-hitters (Call of Duty, Just Dance, Shadows of Mordor 2) and some GOTY edition ports like The Witcher 3. These, coupled with new Nintendo software and updated Wii U ports (and a good VC/indie selection) should give the NX a pretty decent launch.

Hopefully some of these titles do well...

$350 is too much. They need to undercut their competitors on price to get in the door, especially because they don't have the (albeit light but definitely increasing this year) backlog of PS4/XB1 from the past 3 years.

The population on GAF doesn't extrapolate out into the real world. Being priced higher than their competition would be a mistake. Plus, you already noted this...

Which is totally doable.

Nintendo can do better for the same money. They don't need to match the PS4K. They need to earn back the trust of gamers and publishers so they don't suffer from huge gaps in their software library. Unifying their own in house development was very smart, but they still need games that aren't in their wheelhouse from other publishers to make themselves competitive. To accomplish those goals they just need to make a console that's easy to develop for and offers good performance for incoming ports.

I think Nintendo should still chase casuals but on mobile and handheld. They aren't buying a console in this day and age unless they have a very compelling gimmick (which I'm skeptical they have).

The console should be targeted to the enthusiasts like you said. People say the Nintendo maximum audience is the capped by the Wii U audience but I really diagree with that. There are a lot of lapsed (and older now) Nintendo fans that were turned off by the Wii and Wii U. Make a box for these people.

Wouldn't you pay for a good 350$ Nintendo console ?
I mean, powerful, with good online infrastructure, third party support at launch, and great first-party games (Zelda, Smash port, maybe Pikmin 4...).

The Wii U could have scared them, perhaps tbey are ready to take a loss now for a future gain?

A small loss if it meant they could price the system more attractively (say selling a $380 system for $350) would make economic sense and wouldn't be out of character for Nintendo, the, gamecube, ds, 3ds and WiiU all had periods of being sold at small losses

Dont get yourself banned 10k

I want to do this right, just consider me an information relay, not a leaker.

Don't make me nervous lol. I was warned by sources already that Nintendo actively monitors these threads and could get involved. Last thing I want is Nintendo ninj

They don't need to go for 400-500$, I don't think you realize just how poor and disappointing the APU is in the PS4/X1. The Jags came in waaay under expectation for performance, and AMD is desperate. Who knows what deals Nintendo struck and what a few years may have done for performance from the available APUs vs the unperforming Jags.

I don't think your going to get PS4+ level performance on something priced under $350.

Ok, I'll tell you everything, I don't care about my life anymore. Here: the NX is a toa
