Dark Souls 3 PC performance thread

GTX970, the game's lighting or shadow or some unholy combination of both are making it almost impossible to play the game. There are parts where parts of the screen turn completely black, which is fun in a game where if you get ambushed you die.

Fought the first "boss" I think out of the tutorial area, and literally the entire intro cutscene was blacked out, until the fight started. Even at the bottom of the stairs in that big room though, like a quarter of it has a solid line through it(you can go in it, but then you only get that small portion of the room).

Want to play the game, can't play the game, this sucks.

For the most part this runs fine for me minus some odd hitching when I open/close the fucking menu.

GTX 970 SC
i7 4790K
32gb RAM
1024gb SSD

It gets hitchy and weird in the most bizarre situations. Some larger scale fights are buttery seamless yet a random hallway deep underground brings me to 40 fps.

Anyway to switch from left stick click to double clicking B to jump on Xbox One controller?

Edit
Also

i7-3770k at 4,4ghz
Gtx970
16gbram
SSD

get the weird stutters every once in a while where framerate drops to around 40, other than that steady 60

Near 2nd bonfire of Farrens Keep, if Lightning setting is high, I always get crash. If I change Lightning to low, no crashes. This is the only spot where crashes happens.

Did you try to validate the game files? It seems either the game files are corrupted or there is something wrong with the GPU drivers.

I'm also on GTX970 and a SSD, so far i had no crashes or frame drops when picking items up or auto saving some people are experiencing. Guess i'm lucky.

I got the first boss bonfire crash even though I was playing as knight, as I had taken off my helmet. After putting it back on, no problem.

Later on, my game started to crash every fifteen or so minutes. The virtual memory and Nvidia power saving tweaks seemed to work for me.

Now I'm just annoyed that every time the game saves, I get a microstutter, even though my game and the save folder are both on an SSD.

Rock solid 1080p/60fps on GTX 770 4GB / i7-4790k @ 4GHz / 16GB RAM / Samsung EVO SSD / W10

Nvidia 361.43 drivers.

Everything on High, minus Lighting, Depth of Field, and Motion Blur.

I prefer the DS3 aesthetic so far. I think the muted color palette is beautiful.

That said, 10 hours in I thin, I have to admit that Bloodborne looks better.

I think Bloodborne is a better looking game as well. Maybe we'll get to see it in all of its glory when it's remastered on a more powerful PlayStation some day

Good PC version this time around, at least for me.

Solid 60fps at 1440p with everything maxed except for DOF and Motion Blur which I dislike. There are short drops, when the game saves at least, but they happen at times when I mostly don't even notice them, or then Gsync is helping, and I'm super sensitive about such things. First time I actually think a "DS game" looks good. Very pretty.

GPU usage hangs around 50-75%. I'm hoping this leaves enough headroom to stick to 60 fps when I get to the "blight town" this game apparently has as well, where the FPS is supposed to tank.

6700k @ 4.6Ghz
GTX980Ti @ 1420Mhz / 7200Mhz
16GB DDR4 @ 2400Mhz
Game on Samsung 840 SSD
Gsync
Win10

Well shit, it said one file was corrupted and has to be replaced, so maybe I can play it again once I redownload the game. :p

GTX 960 2g, I5 4590, 16 gigs ram and game running off a SSD.

I've got everything on high and getting between 50-60 FPS 95% of the time. Every now and again I get a random drop to 30. Not sure what causes it as its so random.

Other than that so far as the game has been behaving itself.

Game is running flawlessly for me maxed out @ 1080p, only some tiny hitches when auto saving but nothing really noticeable. Could be because I have it installed on my ssd. No crashes thus far (I am at the undead village). Specs:

i5-750 @ 3.6ghz
GTX970
8gb ram
Win 10

Your drops could be caused by a texture settings set too high for your card.

possibly might have fixed another random crash happening for me, after setting the game lighting to low I was playing with no crashes since yesterday. today I was experiencing crashing when I got to certain points where loud specific sounds were playing. I use astro usb headset and I disabled the onboard sound driver. ive experienced no crashing since and I actually feel a slight fps improvement even though I thought the fps were fine.

6700k
980ti
2560x1440p
Max settings

Running flawlessly except a tiny stutter when auto saving.

Very happy, looks gorgeous and the combat is very meaty.

Using about 3.7gb vram.

I have the same spec except two 980Ti @1440 and it uses up to 5900 Vram D:

For those getting crashes, have you tried rebooting your PCs yet? I was getting crashes yesterday afternoon, but after I left my system (off) for a while and then came back, it was running perfectly, even on max lighting quality. Don't know if that will actually help anyone else, my performance correction could be down to something else, but it can't hurt to try.

Yesterday the game ran perfectly fine (some very rare dips to 57-58 fps every few minutes, for like a second) and it would slow down ever so slightly for a split second sometimes when saving. It was 99 percent of the time a smooth 60 fps

Today it chugs like no tomorrow, my cpu useage is constantly at 90-100 percent , in areas that ran perfectly yesterday it now shugs down to 10 fps for a second or two before recovering , those rare slight slow downs are now regular big frame drops etc.

I should have waited a month or two for a bunch of patches to stabilize this POS

It's not my pc either my temps are fine my cpu and gpu are running at their intended clockspeeds, no issues in other games.

Game is in my disc drive installing as I type this.

Should I wait a few more days until they patch it? Or am I safe to jump in? I've got a decent rig (GTX 970, i7 6700K, 16 GB RAM).

Try for yourself. People seem to be on opposite sides of the stability spectrum for this game. On my end, I have absolutely no problem.

Cross your fingers.

Should be okay.
If you encounter crashes near bonfires try the power management 'fix'. It's not optimal but it worked for me (so far...).

edit:
Playing on an i5 3570k @4.3
16gb ddr3 2400
gtx 980 @ 1455/3250
samsung 840 evo
win 10 64bit

downsampling from 2400x1350 to 1080p. Some very brief stuttering when picking up items (sometimes). The lowest FPS I noticed was 56 for one second (no idea why, wasn't able to reproduce). And crashes prior to setting power management to maximum performance. 4 bosses down so far

WHAT THE FUCK. WHY WOULD THE GAME CHANGE IT.
If I had to guess then probably because you are telling it to. (As in, you have "Auto-detect best rendering settings" on)

The game runs flawlessly for lots of people with a configuration similar to yours (like me). It doesn't for some. The only way to know is to try it.

Do you know what driver version he is using? I'd be very interested to know to see if we have more options beyond 314.22 which is quite old. Because if he is using the newest Nvidia driver on his 560Ti (as I was), he is not having a good experience ;)

He recorded a few videos on his phone, said the frame-rate was smooth enough that he didn't regret getting it over the PS4 version. I'm not familiar with what's adjustable in the menus, but he mentioned having most settings on high, and just dropping the shadows and water effects (maybe some other stuff too)

I'll ask him what drivers hes using soon and get back to you.

I don't own the game, but I read 970 can easily reach 80c while playing DS3. If this is the case, GPU should downclock causing a loss of performance. If so, create a custom fan profile to fix the temp to 70c, let's say.

For what it's worth setting "auto-detect best rendering settings" to off doesn't actually seem to turn it off. It still defaults to high setting every time I exist and re-enter the game.

Thanks

It does it every time you relaunch, EVEN IF YOU TURN OFF THE AUTO-DETECT BEST OPTIONS SETTING.

It drives me mad. The first time it changed it back to max I thought "oh, maybe the setting didn't save right?" the second I thought "oh... it's going to do this all the time huh?" the third I thought "oh, there is this auto-detect setting. huh. Maybe that is messing with the settings even though it still says "custom" (while putting everything back to Max anyway...)" and then I thought "oh, so that auto-detect setting still works even when you set it to off...".

Everytime I launch the game it's straight to settings to put lighting back to low.

Sounds like the autosave stutter.

1.) That has nothing to do with the game but with your GPU cooling and maybe overclocking. A GPU reaching 80°C in DS3 will reach 80°C in other games too (during high load). For example my old gtx 670 from zotac reached 80°C in most games back in the days.

2.) 80°C is still a safe temperature for maxwell cards, nothing to worry about.

GTX 780
i7 3770k
16GB RAM
Win 10
2560x1440p

The game actually ran very smoothly with everything at max bar DOF and blurring (both off). I wasn't framerate counting and I do use G-Sync, so maybe it was dipping below 60fps, I don't know.

However, after beating Vordt I started getting crashes after returning to the bonfire at Firelink. Crashed twice in a row. Turned the lighting down to low and that SEEMED to help, but we'll see.

Been playing this on my Alienware Alpha.

I5 model, 8 gig ram with overclock (135/400).

Playing at 1080p and frame rate in between 45-50 a lot of the time. Drops to about 40 now and then and rarely drops to mid to high 30's.

Settings are a mix of medium and low. Cant tell the difference between most settings anyway so some i put lower just for 1 or 2 extra frames.

I tried locking at 30 and it felt horrible. Variable 40+ feels nice and smooth to me so im happy and pretty impressed with this little machine yet again.

I get that odd random drop to sub 10 fps for a second or 2 now and then. Dont know why. Maybe loading things in or something.

Welp, now my game crashes when I try to load my game.

Starting a new game just gets stuck at the loading screen.

Edit: verifying game cache fixed it.

i5 2500k OC'ed 4ghz
16gb Ram
980 GTX
Maxed out at 1080p

Game runs like butter. No lock ups or freezes. You get this one milisecond stutter once you begin trekking again after you rest at the bonfire, but aside from that, not a single issue.

"It was definitely a breath of fresh air to have been able to work through these benchmarks. In the end AMD walks away with a mid range victory here with the R9 380 edging out the GTX 960 in both 1080p and 1440p. Even though we do not have a GTX 970 on hand, it’s fair to say that the R9 390 holds up very well even when compared to its heavier weight opponent the GTX 980. But, it’s in the high end that Nvidia walks away with the crown as the GTX 980ti holds a healthy lead over the R9 Fury X allowing for nearly constant 60fps at 1440p and arguably playable at 4k with the settings maxed out."

Anyone having problems with both kicking and lunging attacks when using a DualShock 4?
It's not impossible to do, but unless I consciously give a swift motion on the left stick and press either R1 or R2 in PERFECT SYNCHRONIZATION then I just end up doing a normal attack.
Haven't had this problem in the first two games. And it only seems to be isolated to my dualshock. When I use my 360 controller it's all gravy.

BTW, really wish there were proper LOD and mipmaps adjusted for mid-high and enthusiast systems. The textures look real, real rough sometimes.
I'm enjoying the HELL out of the game, but there are many issues with this port that aren't insignificant.

1440p I can get smooth as a baby's bottom gameplay when locked at 30fps and when unlocked, in the high 50's...

1080p? A stuttering mess no matter the framerate.

This game is weird...

I thought this was maybe because it's 60fps so it's harder to pull off the special attacks, but guess not if it's easier with 360 controller.
Are you using DS4Windows? I've been practicing doing them so I can pull them off fairly well now but you really need to be like frame precise with them.

Locked 60 FPS at 1440p with a 970 sounds off.

(I mean, you can get 60 in some areas, but also drops down to 45)

That's completely normal.

Thanks Durante-sama

Anyway i think Antialiasing On-Off is unacceptable in 2016, but on the other hand who cares. Let's just play this sh*t.
