[DF] Doom: The Dark Ages - PC Tech Review - Performance Testing, Optimised Settings, VRAM + More

A little off topic, but I was surprised with how "cheap" RT reflections seem to be in the game and how Id missed including them on the ps5 pro.

Other than that, seems like a very solid PC version. Shame it didn't launch with PT, but I imagine most people wouldn't use it anyway including myself.

Played the first level last night.

Where is the shader compilation?

Think they're having a tech deep dive with Id so will be interested to find that out.

Haven't watched the video but first level ran obsolutely silky smooth on my bigger PC with everything set to max besides the resolution (only a 1440p screen). Will try on the couch PC over the weekend.

runs incredible on my 3070
really optimized
native 1080p with rt reflections enabled and high preset 60-75 FPS
dlss quality (looks better than native 1080p) 75-90 fps
actually even 540p dlss 4 looks better than native 1080p lol

actually my gpu is undervolted extremely to 1.7 ghz (to get the minimum amount of fan noise/fan speed i can get away with). add another 10% to these

The physics are great - lots of destructable stuff all over, including statues etc

Really impressive realtime rt gi also

But having a 5080 i would really like the pathtraving update since it does barely push the gpu now

Getting similar performance on my 3060ti on high preset 1080p DLSS quality. I'm satisfied.

That's what I wanna talk about. There's some really cool destruction, kind of reminds me of Returnal and Batman Arkham Knight's destruction. Pillars crumble, railings break, sometimes even walls will break apart a bit. Almost everything you see has some some sort of destructibility outside of obvious things like doors.

Just played the first dragon level - people actually compained about this? what the hell? it as just a cool way to traverse and show off a large level. Hardly a big deal or a big part of the game - and really impressive how the engine so easily just goes between large and small scale without any loading

id tech :messenger_ok:
