BvS is going down for sure, but I dont blame it, a new IP like it cant never beat a huge IP like ZootopiaBOM estimates are up. Zootopia may beat BvS this weekend with strong Sat/Sun.

Cinderella opened to $25M and maleficent $22M
Dr. Strange randomly breaking out and getting Guardians numbers to top BvS needs to be the final cherry on top.
Don't know about Doctor Strange hitting that, but Suicide Squad might end up being the higher grossing DC film this year. Which is nuts in its own way.

Ant-man numbers seem way more likely. Also, isn't BvS ahead of GotG's final gross?

People sleeping on that Doc Strange.
I like Cucumberpants but from that first trailer (or teaser or whatever it was) it doesn't look like an easy sell.
The teaser created more chatter online than the new Fantastic Beasts trailer, doubled it's views on youtube as well. The sell is acid trip Marvel, with that Marvel logo front and center, while coming off the heels of what looks like a Monster in Civil War.
At the end of the day it will come down to the quality, if it reviews strong and Strange delivers on the promise of mind bending visuals. There is really no telling how big that thing could be.
I think Inception-like numbers are the ceiling which would put it neck and neck with BvS
I'm expecting a little better than Ant-Man though
Inception is a new IP though. Doc Strange is well known.
I think there's a chance that BvS (and just a little chance) that BvS doesn't even finish in the top 10 domestically this year let alone the top 5.With that much better Zootopia figure, that basically locks it up to top BvS. Civil War and Rogue One are virtual locks to beat it too, so the best BvS can hope for is to finish at #5 for the year domestically. I think it's almost a lock that Finding Dory will do 330+, Jungle Book could go over that mark too if WOM is strong enough, and there's a number of other films this year with big time potential.
It'll be very interesting to see how low BvS ends up on the charts.
Not really.Doc Strange is well known.
BOM estimates are up. Zootopia may beat BvS this weekend with strong Sat/Sun.

It's gonna be a big surprise break out success
And 99.9% of even hardcore comics fans had no idea who the fuck the Guardians of the Galaxy were.98% of people have no idea who the fuck is Dr. Strange.

Only if the buzz is actually good.
I honestly don't think the issue with Marvel films at this point is even about whether they are "hard sells" or whether the characters are "well known". Those are irrelevant. The brand has so much awareness now and the marketing is so strong that they can sell pretty much anything. The only question is whether people will like it enough to keep driving business after the first sell.
So ultimately it's not even a question of whether the movie will be -good-, but rather whether the mainstream audience -likes- it enough to keep talking about it. It being good helps, it being likeable helps more. It's not a given though, because regardless of what some people think, Marvel is not infallible and can still make duds or bet one the wrong directors. Especially since they like trying untested ones.

I do feel blockbuster are losing it's originality in which I love. I love walking into a movie that's not based on anything besides imagination and let it take me away. We are losing that and that kind of bums me out. It's why Cameron's of the world is so damn important.
So Marvel Studios is basically 2000's era Pixar.
I don't think anyone is saying Doctor Strange will bomb or anything. Just that someone posted above they can see it beating BvS money wise which I think is unlikely unless the film is amazing and audiences love it. That's certainly possible but not guaranteed.Marvel has done well at letting movies like GOTG and Ant Man speak for themselves, making their movies an easy sell to the more casual moviegoer, and I see Doctor Strange following the same track. I have little doubt Doctor Strange will find success.
Nah. Pixar is doing original movies. Marvel is just bringing comic book movies to the big screen. Pixar is much more creative and making it up as they go along. Hit or miss.
They've been missing a lot lately, barring Inside Out.
And that's fine. When they hit it's big and refreshingly original. That's important.
Don't really feel that Pixar has had anything big and refreshing in ages now. Just sequels, more sequels, and when they do have original flicks they just don't feel as inventive as the ones before. When was the last time Pixar really wow'd anyone?
