I still don't understand why anyone trades in to these places. You're pretty much guaranteed to get a much better price on eBay.

Easier I guess. Plus eBay and PayPal tend to take a hefty chunk out of the sale price. Not much difference between the end value of that and a CEX credit trade-in really.

"Laziness." Handing over a disc, getting cash instantly is easier for most people than dealing with setting up an auction, dealing with shipping and packaging and potential buyer questions over the process of possibly weeks.

I think going to the local post office easier than going into the town centre for CEX, but each to their own i guess. And i've never had issues with buyers paying before, i just always make sure to send it recorded delivery, so that the package doesn't go 'missing'. As for eBay taking 10%, i can assure you, you still get far, far more than CEX will give you.

They only take 10%, buyers pay the 1.20 for postage. I still got 18 quid for dark souls 2 after fees wouldn't get anywhere near that at cex.

Not even that. Cexs prices are high because they have no competition. Once Gamestation closed down/rebranded as GAME it was a wrap.

Routinely you can now buy cheaper new than Cex sells second hand for alot of titles. The prices they charge for recent releases were the prices that they used to reserve for games they had a couple weeks before offical release.

Now a game 2 months old can cost £38-40 quid. Piss right off.

.

Cex have The Division in stock second hand for £45. Bwuhahaha

Yup, that's why I wouldn't touch trade-in places with a ten foot pole and go through the eBay hassle every time (got a bunch of auctions ending tonight, in fact :D).

Yeah made over 450 quid on my wii u and games. Game would only give me 250 credit. Its not even a hassle. Scan barcode and your pretty much already done.

Any opinions on shopto's trade in prices.

I've sold a couple of things to them since Amazon stopped doing it.

Would probably get more money on Ebay, but it's less hassle.

I tend to offer international shipping and have to look up stuff a lot. Add to that having games from multiple countries/regions throws a wrench into the barcode thing for your local eBay and you end up with a lot of manual labor in my case :D

I don't use ebay for selling after my partner was ripped off in an utter joke of a refund request that ebay sided with.

Short version:

Sold childhood toys for £200
Buyer said thanks, they were perfect gift for her daughter.
Four months go by
Buyer sends message saying they broke (obviously her daughter broke them, because they "were perfect" when she received them), buyer wants refund.
Girlfriend politely declines.
Buyer takes it to ebay and wins a refund, despite my GF showing the messages about the items being perfect after receiving them.
Paypal account was currently empty so went £200 in the red
I think they closed it after 9 months of her ignoring their orders to pay up, and they couldn't take it themselves because she closed the related bank account the moment it happened..
Buyer never sent the stuff back either.

Yeah I'm always wary of selling things on ebay because of that kind of shit.

I've not experienced it myself, but I know quite a few people who've had stuff like that happen. They're always more inclined to side with the buyer over the seller, even if you show proof.

Ewww fuck this shit. Will never sell on ebay.

I always sell my games on second hand sites where you can just place a free ad, or a local forum that has a buy & sell section. I don't like eBay due to the extra fees and also hearing stories like what Stallion Dan wrote above.

There's one local game store that does trade-ins and the prices they pay are such rip-offs. I only use it if I really wanna get rid of a bunch that won't sell.

Fuck eBay, I lost £140 on a GPU and I did everything right. I sent it recorded delivery, he signed for it, then he says it doesn't work and immediately gets a refund, he's told to send it back which he does but it never reaches me and is returned to sender (I assume he purposely caused this somehow as Royal Mail never actually tried to make the delivery), so in the end he got his £120 back, my GPU and I had to pay £20 in shipping, costing me £140 in total. When I sold my Wii U and PS3 I just took it to CEX, sod the risk.

I just use Gumtree. It's a little more effort but I've got rid of a decent amount of stuff. You're selling local so you'd just be screwing your own community by scamming.

AV forums is a good place to buy / sell games. I've been on there for a few years and never had any problems.

Also how is game.co.uk with posting out pre-orders? Was hoping to get Ratchet & Clank a day or so early..

In the UK the ocuk members market is a good place for buying/selling consoles and games and especially for buying 2nd hand PC hardware.
As the name suggests you need to be a fairly long term member of the ocuk forums: 1000 posts and 180 days of membership. Basically they don't want people signing up solely for trading.

Yeah I use to sell dvds/cds/games and random pieces of hardware I found cheap. EBay fucked me out of £250 and caused me an issue with Paypal that took a whole year to resolve. I'm cool with Paypal again (they eventually gave me my money back) but I'll never use Ebay again.

I'm actually looking to shift a bunch of PS3 stuff (some collectors eds etc) but he faff with Ebay just puts me off and Cex is a complete rip off.

Anyone here recommend the actual GAF buy/sell thread?

I sold an HTC Desire on Ebay, guy said it doesn't work, Ebay refund him and he's to send it back. Sends back the empty packaging with no phone. Luckily having kept my sent receipt with the weight on it I sent this to Ebay/Paypal. They gave me my money back (from sale), but I think they still refunded him. Still a shit show of an experience. When I called the telephone number he had on record whoever answered said wrong number.

It's good for picking up digital codes but not many EU people use it for physical goods.

There used to be a nice swap site in the Wii era I used a lot. It was free to use and had a decent community. I swapped about 20 games.

I think the most pathetic case was I sold a HD DVD film for like £3? And the guy wanted a refund because it was in such poor condition, now I keep my stuff pristine so I knew something was up, checking his history he had bought another copy for like 20p cheaper after buying mine, and instead of just saying "I found it cheaper mate, can you not post it to me" he damaged the case of my film and sent it back to me for a refund. It was £3 so I just gave him his money back, not that I'd have a choice as I found out later with the GPU incident, I haven't used it since as I really can't afford to eat £100+ losses.

eBay is shite.

I STILL can't close my account and it's been more than 30 days since any transactions. Avoid the site like the plague.

I buy on eBay but usually stick to Buy it Now stuff, and after reading these and other horror stories, not a chance I'd ever sell anything through them.

Are Amazon any better in terms of seller protection?

Ive never had any issues with Amazon. Someone once asked me for a refund, I sent them an email asking why and was going to process it and they never replied lolol.

My favourite ebay memory is when they said that the photos I took of a bootleg DS game I received, showing the spelling errors and incorrect logos on the cartridge, were not good enough to prove it was fake, and that I needed to fax them a letter of appraisal. This was like 6 years ago and it still annoys me whenever I remember it, lol.

I'm happy to jump on the screw eBay bandwagon... I bought a new GPU during that 20% off deal they had, was over the moon to get a great price. Since the code had to used in one transaction I threw in a cheap PSN card too that I was thinking of grabbing. Got a saving of almost the whole £50. Awesome.

Order for the GPU goes through twice, not good. I have a nightmare of a time trying to sort that out. Then both orders of said GPU fail due to insufficient funds (My PayPal balance could've covered all of it with change) AKA eBay was having a meltdown from traffic. All in all I spent something like 3 hours trying to sort it/contact eBay.

Contact eBay and they say no problem this will be dealt with and your details have been passed on, you'll hear from us. Don't hear and follow up just to get "One of the items you ordered went through with the code just fine so chin up and deal with it, you aren't getting a replacement". Thanks eBay!

I only use eBay for buying stuff. I know I'm honest about these things so I don't cheat people out of their products and/or money and I'm not the most anal person about some small flaws that may not have been disclosed in the description of the item or, for example, the box of a game suffering a bit during delivery (of course if it's completely obliterated due to shoddy packaging, I'll complain). So long as shit works and isn't in total ruin, I'm perfectly happy.

I abandoned any & all possible intentions of ever even wanting to try selling stuff through eBay after I read the news about how PayPal told a buyer to destroy an expensive violin to get his money back because of some dispute between the seller & the buyer.

Ireland GAF, Smyths is doing a deal where if you pre-order Doom, Uncharted 4 or Battleborn you get €10 off the price. So they'll be €54.99 instead of 64.99. Valid until April 22. I think I'll get Uncharted 4 from there.

Anyone outside the UK have some experience with GAME.co.uk shipping large items to your country?

I really, really, really want the Mirror's Edge Catalyst CE which isn't being released in the Netherlands. I could go with amazon.de but the box would be ruined with the giant USK logo and I don't know if the game would even be playable in English so I'd rather get it from GAME.co.uk which is also cheaper. Thing is, the page says "Please Note: Due to the weight of this item, we are unable to ship it internationally." yet I'm able to put it in my basket and choose international shipping. I think I may have also heard some experiences from people who ordered items which were also supposedly not being available for overseas shipping and were still shipped like normal, but I'm not sure.

I think they charge when the order ships so I might just give it a try.

There was that one guy that had an epic thread detailing his experience of trying to get a refund back when the figure inside was damaged as they were in Australia. Can't find it on search though.

EDIT: Found it. http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?p=94383940

Was only 1 of four they ordered that broke though.

Sheeesh, that was painful to read. I've ordered many things from GAME in the past without issues but I've always seen them as a company that's no issue to deal with it until you need to contact their CS with even the slightest complicated problem.

I'm not sure how fragile the statue in the Mirror's Edge CE is gonna be so that's definitely something to keep in mind :x. Thanks for the heads up!

I've only ever been to one store one time, but can you confirm why every store (according to Internet reports) stinks to high heaven? Can you not speak to HR about this?

Also, I hope you carry around a small bottle of hand sanitiser with you. Make sure you have a thorough shower when you get home each day and please avoid touching anything non-essential before you do.

Store smells= No idea but it might be because some of the types of customers that come in being less educated in hygiene than most :P

Sanitiser/cleanliness= God yes. Going to get more sanitiser tomorrow as I'm running low

Are you covered in piercings and tattoos? I've never seen am employee without tats or at least without their hair dyed in a weird colour.

Haha no! I respect that people like tattoos and some look cool but they're not for me, and I don't see the appeal of piercings at all. The other employees in my store aren't all tatted and pierced either, but the store close to me is like that :P I might be leaving in a few weeks anyway if things plan out correctly.

On topic: Noticed Transformers Devastation is pretty cheap on Amazon (£6 on 360, £10.50 PS3, £10 XB1, £11.60 PS4, £15.50 PC) :)

Can anyone estimate when the next major PSN sale will take place?

I have £28 in my wallet and I'm anxious to spend it now something but only if it's been heavily discounted.

Current set of deals ends this coming Thursday. There should be a new one to replace it then, but how major or minor it'll be - who can say?

Amazon are same as ebay, though the window for refunds is shorter I believe. Anyone who wants to scam can just damage the item and claim not as advertised. Amazon will still refund buyer with no evidence of item being sent back/returned too.

Anyone outside the UK have some experience with GAME.co.uk shipping large items to your country?

Do they even do this anymore? I thought they stopped international orders over a certain size/weight.

--------

What is with all the ragging on CEX stores, I've ony been in my local, but it doesn't smell, is visually clean and the employess are all polite.

In case anyone is interested:
My Luigi's Mansion 2: Dark Moon (Nintendo 3DS) for £8.5 from Amazon is preparing for dispatch, the one we order in January.

Yep, arriving today apparently. I'm still kinda expecting it to turn up and be a something entirely different tbh

EDIT:

It actually exists!
