Street Fighter V - Guile Screenshots (April 2016 DLC character)

You're just proving my point.

How?

What's wrong with Capcom catering to the what a large group of people like?

Because then you ignore other people and that's the opposite of what you want to do as a company.

Also lol at 'what a large group of people want'. Go look at the Vega, Gief and Sim reveal thread. Half of those posts were 'Oh ____ is back. Bring back ____'. Face it, you're not the large majority any more.

And releasing the same characters every game because they are staples of the franchises?

BECAUSE IT GETS BORING! I don't want to see Gief every game. I don't want to see Guile every game. Fuck, if Alex was in every game I'd probably get bored of him too. People don't want to see the same shit again and again.

just like there is nothing wrong with new characters.

Cool, we agree on someting.

The problem is, people are selfish and want new characters all the time at the expense of people who like the classic. I can pull up the threads when people thought Ken wasn't in, they were glad and happy because "no more Ken army online" Ken is one of the most popular characters in the game. A huge chuck of the fanbase would want him in, but no lets get eagle to replace him -_- that's the logic i have a a problem with.

This just reeks of 'I'm the victim here.'

I want the game to sell, and for it to keep growing,

So do I, but it seems Capcom is doing a shit job of making it sure it does.

If popular characters help, then put as many of them in as possible.

That's the thing, 'popular' changes every SF game. For SF4, it was the SF2 and alpha characters. Now, I'd say it's the characters that weren't in SF4.

If everyone falls in love with Urien, he better be in the next one.

People already love Urien. They've been waiting just as long as I have.

I'm not just concerned about what I want.

Yes you are.

If Snake eyes only plays zangief, then I want zangief to be in there.

I couldn't give a shit who Snake eyes plays. He doesn't effect me at all so why should I care. He'd fine someone else to play anway.

His play entertains thousands of people around the globe and the community learns from him.

So Gief should be in because one guy plays him well? Great logic.

You're speaking from the position of privilege while playing the victim. Also, you are really holding on to the no Ken at launch thing -- I remember that clearly and it wasn't so much "please no Ken" as it was "oh that's the rumor? hmmm, I'm okay with that."

.... Yeah anyway. I don't know what point you are even trying to make. Ken and Ryu and hands down the most popular characters and there are some that don't even want both of them in the game at launch lol. My point is, the larger user base likes classic characters, and it would be stupid to ignore them. Also there's a ton of people that don't play online or ranked, so having usage as a barometer to a characters popularity is probably useless. Alex Urien, guy, Sakura, I'm not just talking about sf2 cast but popular characters in general. Put em all end if it's going to help grow the userbasse.

How is a character gonna get a chance to be popular if he wasn't in SF4 and isn't in SFV? It's a catch 22, that's why they have to bring back characters like Birdie, Mika, Alex, etc and give them a chance to get some modern screen time. You can't keep dipping into the same well, it gets monotonous and in all honesty some of the characters have been ass or plain boring in several revisions (Dee Jay, Honda, Dan). It's okay for a character to sit out a game every once in a while, or to be a late inclusion.

As I've said before, personally I think the series distribution for the first round of DLC is good. And of course you have your staples, which are clearly defined by the base roster in SFV. But that doesn't mean they should strive to put every SF2'er in there.

Edit: yeah, who gives a shit who snakeeyez plays, as Scotia said he'd use somebody else. No way do you include a character for one human being, that's actually insane.

09er syndrome. SF4 sold well therefore the roster was perfect and anybody not included is not perfect and therefore obscure. Blanka, man, what a must-have. They should have scrapped Fang for him.

Yeah, you're right. 09'er mentality is the fucking worst.

I'm more interested in seeing classic characters get a shake up. They're doing a fantastic job so far. Had an incentive to try out the new Sim over all the new character, and I never liked Sim before.

You can't satisfy everybody.

but you know what they can do? satisfy me by putting deejay into this game. this game sucks until deejay is added.

I think they've done a fantastic job with the roster, from the diversity of characters and play styles, to the updated looks and movesets, the balance of new/old/niche characters, everything.
And that's coming from someone whose mains (Rose and Blanka) haven't even made it in.

Guile looks so awesome. He sounds rediculously OP. Stationary booms? Move forward while charging? Wtf is going on here? I'm glad they didn't try to completely redesign him.
I'm hyped as fuck
Now just bring back rose next season.

You can't satisfy everybody.

This is the main thing. SF has tons of characters that all add different things to the roster and they all have different amounts of fans for whatever reason it may be. At the end of the day, some people are just gonna get "shafted" when it comes to what they like. Even with SF4 ending up with the amount of characters that it did, there were still characters with fans who were left out. They can't add everybody.
but you know what they can do? satisfy me by putting deejay into this game. this game sucks until deejay is added.
real talk tbh

I'm speaking from privelage because I want the pro players to be able to play the characters they put a lot of time in to master? You guys are making zero sense. I'm saying they effect the community to a greater extent, and it's nice when they bring out characters full potential. But yeah who gives a f about snake eyes, we anti pro here on gaf.

1) I only used sf2 cast as an example that it shouldn't matter where the characters come from, old, or new Capcom should cater to the audience. It was not s statement saying everyone from sf2 should be in there lol.

2) you guys are just showing some bias of your own while attempting to call me out. Sim is a very unique character, he might not super popular but he adds diversity, something you are seemingly claiming can only happen with new characters?

3) I think Capcom balance so far has been good. Each update has some classic, some new, some old faces, I have nothing against there current roster of announced characters. And I for sure wouldn't mind eagle coming back, Just highlighting how some ppl on forums tend to hate on anything popular.

4) Ken was not met with apathy on here. Your being forgetful.

RAGE QUIT SYSTEM

We’re also happy to announce that we will be implementing a system to punish players who frequently disconnect during matches (aka rage quitters).

The way this will work is the system will identify players who have high disconnect rates during matches and will lock them out of matchmaking for a period of time. Players who have been identified as abusing the system will receive an in-game message notifying them they have been locked out of matchmaking. More additions and enhancements to this system will be implemented in the future.

This isn't going to fix shit lol

This is just giving ragequitters cute breaks.

At this point it seems like pie in the sky, but I really wish it would allow you to choose different characters in casual mode. I would love to reserve my main character for ranked matches and just pick someone on the fly to experiment with in casual. I'm good enough with my main where non ranked matches are kinda pointless, but the whole point of casual for me is to road test different characters without affecting rank. Of all the problems with Street Fighter V, this is the only one that's actually dampened my enjoyment.

I like how they shaken up Dictator, Nash and Claw. Birdie is my favourite non SF4 character and Mika and Karin have great play styles. All in all Capcom has done a great job with the roster. They have shaken up the returning cast as well as had so SF4 no shows and introduced some pretty cool new challengers. The Season 1 DLC character line up is perfect as well in my opinion. Obviously some people will be upset but you can't please everyone.

Season 2 I hope they do the same with 2 SF2 fan favourites and 2 SFIV no shows. 2 females

Akuma - SF2
Sagat - SF2
Oro - SF4 No show
Maki - SF4 No show (female)
C. Viper - SF4 (female)
Dudley - SF3

You think adding the same characters gets boring, I'm talking about adding characters that please the largest range of the community. Snake eyes is just an example of a character that's not hugely popular, but has become very important to the franchise and his play is shared through the community. Your logic, he can play someone else, gief is boring. But I'm the one just worried about myself? I don't play gief lol. I'm saying pro players are more crucial to the community that I am. But yeah completely selfish on my part. ?

Honestly, you guys aren't even making any sense to me. Maybe this is a discussion to just have in person or something. I just want the game to be successful. I think is pretty trivial to say things like "it gets Boring" like what gets boring? The way the character looks? Gief plays very different from before. I'm sure there is nothing boring about the transition from SF4 gief to SFV. It's like you guys don't actually play the game or something.

You can choose different characters in casual mode just change your favorite character between matches.

So with you on this one, however, Capcom went the new roster route with III and its iterations - it really didn't do well and was the last of the main series for years. IV was out to make everyone happy which also falls in line with a revamping of the whole genre.

I think V is a good spot to start bringing new blood in so I'm with ya there but I think Capcom will wait till a little further down the line - after they've checked everyones boxes.

It works in smash.

I don't know how the smash ranked system works but the reason people ragequit is to protect their points, what they're trying to implement isn't going to stop people from RQ'ing in order to keep frauding their way up the ranks. They also mention that they'll punish people with a high disconnect rate which leads one to believe you'll still have a very lenient window to ragequit without any punishment.

The solution is as simple as making people lose points when RQing / giving points to the winner. It really shouldn't be that hard to implement.

I too have no desire to see the same ol' characters every game(looking at you classic characters, shotos especially), but we all know what happened when they tried that last. Its a shame really. Fans of the series stifle creativity by being fans.

this is what I have a problem with. Just a b/s post from casuals that just want to play Cpu and pretend they are good. It doesn't matter what era the cast comes from, if they add variety in gameplay then there is nothing Same ol' about them. And SF3 didn't fail because it had an all new cast.

It wasn't the sole reason, but it definitely played a part.
It's actually refreshing that this argument is back in rotation for the things people bitch about with SF5.

Its almost nostalgic at this point lol

Turd strikers have to be the biggest whiners around.

Stop. Petty insults like this and "09er" are dumb.

im actually perplexed we are getting this bullshit from some regulars in the OT thread. Since when has it been about aesthetics over gameplay in SF? We MK now? People quoting me like i want all classic characters in, zangief is boring, no need for sim because they have low usage? Wtf?

Snake eyes inspires more people to use a character, but screw him! I'm tired of zangief.

Lol y'all cray

No doubt it did. But there were many factors involved. No one of telling how big the cast issues even effective the title.

Basically accept the L's against higher or similar ranked players. Bail the fuck out when your about to lose to a much lower ranked player.

Unfortunately that won't happen often enough to even get these guys put in time out since most of these fraudulent platinums are actually decent players who are going to plow through most low level gold(and below) players.

Noice. We're getting closer! Give me more!

Also, hey look, the guy from the story trailer.

Lots of people don't take diversity of playstyles into consideration. They care only about "their" enjoyment, which is perfectly fine, but it's really a different conversation than what we're having.

I second this. I really like some changes they made for classic characters in SFV.

It's like you've had this post ready since the DLC characters were announced months ago or something.

Pretty clear they're going in order of the images here. Alex being first confirmed it for me, but Guile coming next couldn't be coincidence.

GIVE ME BALROG NOWWWWWW

I can't bear to read sf5 threads on gaf now. All the assumptions made by and about people on both sides of the arguments are fucking annoying. Some of the most childish discussion I've ever seen on gaf. Is it really so hard to discuss each others points without throwing out shitty assumptions and insults?

I would think anyone who "gets" SF would take that into consideration automatically but guess not.
