Dark Horse is releasing a 30th anniversary hardcover of the original version of the Aliens mini-series in April. This would see the names Newt, Hicks and Ripley in their proper place, instead of the alternate names utilized after Alien 3 came out.

I was about to post about that. Is it confirmed that it restores Hicks and Newt's original names? In the 3rd book they got around Ripley being in it by adding a dialog box stating that an android downloaded her memories or some other nonsense.

Dark Horse's description refers to the characters as Hicks and Newt. Plus they've gone back to the original black and white art, and refer to the collection as "unadulterated". I think that all adds up to pretty solid confirmation the story will be presented as originally intended.

This is still going forward, according to Weaver. She says it'll be worth the wait.

“Well, I think it is. Ridley asked Neill not to make our Alien ’til after ‘Prometheus 2.’ [Ridley] wanted his movie to shoot and be released first. But it’s an amazing script, and Neill and I are really excited about doing it. We’re doing other things until we can get going on that. I’d be really surprised if we didn’t do it, because it’s such a great script, and we love working together. So, it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it’ll be worth the wait.”

What's gonna be funny is if Ridley Scott & Fox decide to let Neill do his thing two years from now (which he won't, but whatever), just in time to lose Weaver to Cameron for the two years of Avatar shooting she's gonna have to do or whatever.

At which point, five years from now when shooting on "Alien 5" finally gets underway, the ludicrous concept of watching 70-year-old Weaver & Biehn slowly jog around a warehouse wearing Xenomorph suits becomes so comical as to prompt people to wonder if the Simpsons did it first.

Not that any of that will actually be happening, because this movie isn't real, and never will be.

Maybe it depends on how well Covenant does. If the movie makes good money it could open the possibility for other films. Maybe Fox should consider an Alien cinematic universe of sorts, lol.

Technology will, in time, allow for older actors to reprise their younger self's (ala michael douglas in antman, jeff bridges in tron, etc). Heck, if Scorsese is going to do it with Bobby D, it's not far fetched to think that hollywood is going to abuse it the moment it's acceptable. That's an easy way to dismiss the problem of Weaver's age in 4-5 years.

How "easy" is it to pay for a full movie's worth of that digital makeup?

I don't think it's that easy. Especially since I don't think Blomkamp had that in mind when he pitched this shit to Fox in the first place. And at that point, where your band-aid fix for the pitch getting an almost decade-long delay from when you pitched is going to exponentially increase the budget like that, why would you continue to pursue it?

I would actually love to know what the hell did he pitched to Fox that seemed reasonable enough for them to let him do it. Cause Biehn and Weaver are definitely way too old for that shit.

Can't wait for this one.

Yes, Chappie was not really good but it's just one slump. We'll see if given an existing franchise.

I really want to see Alien 5 happen, I just hope Ridley can do a decent job with Alien: Covenant, because if that bombs, Fox will probably lose interest in Alien 5 and scrap the sequel.

I'm a fan of Ridley but I will be annoyed if Blomkamp doesn't get to make this, as Ridley is the reason it's been put on hold. I heard it was something to do with the story, I guess they will be connected in some way or share some idea's, maybe something to do with the Engineer's or their tech, that was probably Ridley's idea and wants in his movie first.

Yeah I really can't picture this happening.

Isn't Ridley turning Covenant into a trilogy? He isn't going to want a new weird canon movie sequel in between his movies.

They are different ends of the Alien timeline though so Alien 5 shouldn't really interfere with Ridley's movies and he was going to be producer for Alien 5, so it's going to be partly his movie too.

Oh, yeah! Let's get hyped! The director behind Elysium and Chappie can SURELY do what the last 2 Alien films couldn't! SURELY!

Since at least Chappie is one of these movies where I cant understand the insane hate from the Internet, I have no big reason to not be hyped, cant be worse then the stupid shitfuck that Alien 4 was.

Or prometheus. If it's about aliens and looks good. Has a decent story. We're done.

The bar isn't abundantly high for a palatable alien franchise film. It really isnt.

Just give them those walking aids with wheels. When they remove those digitally it will look as if Weaver and Biehn walk like xenomorphs.
