Star Fox Zero |OT| The Fox Awakens

I've completed 4 levels so far, and I'm loving it. The walker, and gyro copter are very easy to control, My only moment of frustration came from the first air battle with Pigma...I felt too constrained within the space alloted to fight him. I kept getting forced to turn around, rather than allowing for me to make sweeping turns. I wanted to be able fly through the giant ring base/ship thing and come back around.

1. Sector Beta
2. Sector Alpha
3.
Corneria 2

Sector Beta for the reasons Neiteio mentioned is just too good.
I'm not at
Corneria 2
yet (I keep replaying earlier missions), but once you unlock it, you can still replay
Corneria 1
, right?

Played Section Gamma this morning and I was much much better with the controls having let me brain rewire for the night, it flowed great and as the entire game has been, extremely engaging due to the dual screen setup.

I'll have to go back to that Great Fox escort mission in the asteroid belt to see if I've really learned anything.

Yep. Even that tutorial when you first booted up the game is replayable.
Yeah, I've been replaying that plus the walker training and the first 12 levels. I just enjoy it so much that I irrationally worried something might drop off the world map at some point due to story reasons or whatever. Glad to hear everything will always be available. I love each level so far.

Anyone who has beaten the game:

How awesome would it be to get a full fledged level where you pilot the Roadmaster? Feels like a waste to program a unique vehicle just for two training missions. That said, I've yet to unlock the second one... so it could very well be a full level.

It isn't but it's another demonstration of the
Roadmaster in a racing level, which is really cool since you shoot down stuff to make a path at high speed, really fun. I really like the roadmaster, it's a lot of fun in those levels and Fichina with its hills is perfect for it.

It would have been neat. I'm guessing there was originally a level intended for the Roadmaster but it was cut for time.

The game came in the mail today and I played through the first several missions.

I just wanted to get this out there, but I do not understand the issue with the controls. I picked it up and it was fairly straight forward from the get-go. Actually, the only time I ever had to look at the gamepad to aim and shoot my mark was whenever the game forced me into the target mode during certain fights. Even when I was forced to use the game pad it was still incredibly easy.

Looking forward to playing through it all and then over and over.

Same here. Also since I played in co-op for so long I forgot about the TV and played all of Corneria in cockpit view on the gamepad. It worked really, really well! I also forgot I could have switched view to the TV.

How is co-op? I plan on having a buddy over and giving it a try tonight. Bit let down you can't do it in arcade mode however...

Oh shit, that's epic. Can't wait to unlock that!

Finally got to play some co-op and it's actually a great co-op experience. You coordinate and trust each other.

Oh shit, that's epic. Can't wait to unlock that!

It's a short but really fun level, especially when you get good at the drifting, though it reuses Titania's assets.

Co-op is great! One person uses the ship and the other guns. Think of Star Wars Arcade on the 32x. Lots of communication involved that makes you really feel like actual partners and it's very fun.

I also agree. I wish there was a co-op option for arcade mode.

How do you get to meteo? I can't find any alternate exits in area 3.

It isn't really meteo and there's a better version of that level. Anyway, what you're looking for is go through Corneria through Aquarosa, take the exit to Area 3 which will trigger the satellite mission that leads to the Asteroid Field.

So, controls. Am I playing it wrong, or is it actually ZR to shoot, which is also the same button to enable motion controls, which mess everything up and show the other cursor instead of the normal one?

The single red line on the map screen after you get mission accomplished on every stage bugs me.

Yeah. There's no way to play without using motion controls unless you play co-op.

I wonder if any Star Fox game will ever manage to beat Assault's soundtrack.

It's a pretty high bar. It's rather surprising such a game had a fully orchestrated soundtrack. Was it Nintendo's first fully orchestrated game? I think it was.

This game's soundtrack is alright. But other than maybe Wolf's theme, I'm not sure it's on the same level as Assault.

The final part of the last mission is pissing me off so much. I was wondering why the
Star Wolf team seemed so much easier compared to last time. It's because the Andross fight is so damn annoying and will cause you to burn through whatever lives you have left.
Even knowing how to beat this you're just fighting against the controls at times. I know exactly what I have to do and when to do it but the controls aren't doing their part. This is the first time where I think I honestly don't like the control setup. There is also little room for error it seems since so much life gets taken off when your hit as well. Doesn't help that you don't just get hit once but it seems at least twice some how. Now I have to start from phase 1 again. Really thinking of not even bothering tonight and trying again tomorrow.

So what effects you getting 'Mission completed' or 'Mission Accomplished', i take it its not score based like in SF64??

Also the music in this game is completely forgettable, bit disappointment after the music in the first 2 games...especially the first game!
I think barring Sector Y which required 100 hits none of the Mission Accomplished requires were tied to score in 64. In this one it's pretty much based around specific objectives you can accomplish on the stage. Ex. In Corneria destroying the Androsa's core instead of the laser cannons is the acchomplished requirement.

I think my favorite thing is the cinematic angles on the tv after looking up from shooting on the pad, gets me.....excited ha

I love when you're fighting a member of Star Wolf and fly head on into them, and the camera zooms in and does a slow more cross between the two cock pits as they pass.

what about Star Fox Adventures

Loving the game so far, best Star Fox in ages.

I got around the controls pretty quickly, this is incredible how it makes shooting easier.

Except with the worm like boss and the Landmaster, holy shit it took me a while. :lol

Really liked the game up until the Ice Landmaster level and that boss, that's when the problem with the mechanics/controls finally started to drown out the fun. Just all the transforming, more transforming, running into the boss when you're trying to get on top of them. Double ugh.

Found a stage I don't like finally. The asteroid stage is pretty ass imo.

Meteo is the biggest disappointment in the entire game.

It's like they threw it together just because every Star Fox before Zero had the stage and the game basically had to have it.

I was hoping it was a high speed obstacle course type stage. Nope. Escort mission. Ugh...

So... I was playing the mission
where you have to destroy three missiles heading towards the teleporter portal while occasionally having to rescue the Great Fox from invading robots. I failed the damn thing over and over, I think because of all the time I had to waste flying away from them and turning sharply to head back towards them.
I did eventually beat it, but only after I swallowed my pride and took the invincibility power-up.

My question is does Zero not have the U-Turn move that SF64 had when playing in all-range mode stages? If it does, how do I do it?

Both Analogs down or some face button not sure which because I just used the analogs.

That's the same thing as the Asteroid Field. Escort mission while shit flies all around the great fox.

IIRC, you can just fly up to a missile and walk across it while shooting :P

What triggers the invincibility power-up to appear? I've yet to see it.

Does using it invalidate the score at the end of the level?

X Button for Somersault
B Button for U Turn

You can also use the analogs only for both but I find the buttons easier personally.

So who here primary uses the TV view? I'd say I'm about 80% TV and 20% GamePad. I just want to know how you pros are playing ;)

What am I missing on area 3 to get a gold? I beat Pigma quickly and get around 80-90 points on phase 1 but on the 2nd phase I just don't know.

Is there a limit to the number of targets you can mark for smart bombs with a single charge shot lock-on? I've only done that once and only with two bombs.

X Button for Somersault.

I'm not a pro, but it's probably closer to 60/40 for me.

I managed to replay the first and second levels entirety through the gamepad and it worked out fine. Barrel rolling is way more reasonable in first person in this game than it was in 64.

I'm only ever looking at the game pad for boss fights it feels like. There's virtually no need to during the on rails segmentsor during the all range fights against generic enemies.
