Star Fox Zero |OT| The Fox Awakens

I hear ya. Honestly I have an easier time dodging those big fat lasers on the cinematic camera screen than I do with the cockpit view. Kinda like a three dimensional game of R.C. Pro-Am.

Yeah, you have to use that view to dodge them as you can't see shit in cockpit view. It worked fine for Andross as it was a spherical level and the lasers were more visible/consistent

And yeah, lol, RC Pro Am is a good comparison for the wonky camera/controls in that view.

Yoooooo! After beating Andross, I encountered Wolf on Fortuna and followed him to Fichina. The fight that followed is AMAZING. He has this special move that is straight-up Platinum (although who knows if it was a Platinum idea).

I like putting the cockpit view on the TV. That shit right there is the tits.
I haven't really tried that yet, but given how much I like playing through the cockpit view, maybe I should. :-)

I didn't know you could lead the missiles into the laser satellites for more points against the boss on Corneria 1.

He's also using the black Arwing this time cause it offers a bigger blast radius with standard charge shot.

Damn, he's letting those charge shots rip before they lock onto anything. Also looks like I should be using charge less and just lasering all the exploding enemies.

the scoring runs in this game are gonna be insane

That's because the splash damage of an unlocked charge shots give an additional +1m, even if it only hit one enemy. The same applies to SF64.

In both games, you can prevent the charge shot from locking. It's done by pressing R+Z in SF64, and holding L in Zero.

I'm genuinely jealous of everyone that's able to enjoy it. Offered to give my copy to a friend since I tried giving the game another shot and it just isn't happening. :(

How did I never know that? I always shot just before the lock on reticle appeared and hoped for the best. It made aiming when I was going for high scores in Star Fox 64 incredibly difficult.

I don't think it's explicitly stated anywhere in the original but I know this was oneof the various tips you could get in the 3ds version on the loading screen.

For reference, I edited my post because I was wrong for the method in SF64. It's R+Z.

Also, hitting things with the blast radius of the charge short is what give you the point. You'll get the +1 even if you don't actually destroy the enemy.

I...........honestly didn't have that hard of a time defeating the final boss. I died maybe 5-6 times but that was about it. I think that was a good challenge. Also, I was someone who died like 12 times on level 2, lol. I was SO bad but then BAM BOOM BAM I got so much better once it all clicked.

Fuck Aquarosa. Terrible boss with terrible camera angles that really shows all the flaws if the game. I've enjoyed everything else, and found Andross pretty easy once I learned the phase, but this is just horseshit. One more set of tries then I'm just going to use the invincibility thing and move on. I don't give a crap about medals, just want to see all the stages and modes before selling the game.

I beat it pretty easily now. Use your gamepad screen fly straight at the satellites. Use your bombs on ones you're about to run into, and fly away from the EMP at an angle so you can turn and fire at satellites as it's out.

Andross thoroughly wrecked my shit last night. I loved the pain, though!

Then I beat him on my first try today. I think a good night's sleep cleared up my head a bit.

On the bright side I think I got pretty good at the level. I think I could easily break 400 with a little more practice.
Damn, nearly 400. I have a sneaking suspicion you're one of the best Zero players on this forum. :-)

Hey, mind telling me how to unlock the Great Fox stage? I have two more stages to unlock. I know one of them is unlocked by meeting the Team Star Wolf member in Sector Alpha. But I have no idea where the Great Fox is unlocked.

Spoilery question:

What am I supposed to do on the old missions where members of Star Wolf appear? I just did the Sector Alpha one and all that happened was Pigma showed up, deflected all my shots at him, and flew away five seconds later. Do I just do all of the levels where they show up normally and then it unlocks something?

Just lock onto them until a little transition is triggered.

This game is so amazing. Four days in, and the pros are already closing in on 500 hits for Corneria 1. Fucking amazing.

I also love the trick where he tricks a missile into looping back into a turret. Seems like he's trying to dismantle the entire ship for extra hits instead of the alternate strategy of sneaking inside the boss with the walker and destroying the reactor core.

Also interesting is he's continuing to target the fleeing drones on the GamePad while the cutscene plays out on the TV. Didn't know you could do such a thing, but it makes sense.

Holy shit, the mission accomplished trigger for Venom is fucking brilliant.
I doubt it will, Mario Kart 8 has the same problem and never got patched.

Which is a shame, because the music in Mario Kart 8 is AMAZING.

I don't remember it being that big of a deal in Mario Kart 8.

The missile loop thing was shown in the animated short, so it was definitely intentional. I think he even has a voice clip for it in game.

The credits are so boring. Not even regular non-interactive boring, I am compelled to do something else not even 10 seconds in.

Lol. Finally put the fucker down after like an hour and a half of tries.

It's really not a git gud moment. It's a figure out how to get past the terrible camera in the tv screen view to dodge the lasers and set up your attack runs.

It would be super easy if it was just a pure free range stage camera and not the stupid forced lock on.

This boss annoyed me more than any in Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3. Some there were harder, but I just needed to git gud rather than overcome a terrible camera.

Anyway that's done. Won't replay that boss.

The boss would be harder unlocked, not easier. You would have no clue when the lasers were going to fire or the shield go up.

I don't know if you're being serious here, but... Don't we already have a laser pointer? Maybe I'm missing something, but aren't your ship's lasers the laser pointer? In splatoon it makes sense - you have limited "ammo" and once you fire you give away your position. Star Fox doesn't have these constraints - you're shooting all the time so you have constant feedback of where your shots are going.

You can tell where your shots are approximately going but you can't tell EXACTLY where your shots are landing.

As it is, Star Fox Zero requires PRECISION and the only way you can tell if you're hitting a particular weak spot on an enemy or object is by looking at the gamepad and checking if the 1st person aiming reticle is on target (or by adjusting the gyro until you see the enemy/object blinking red when you hit it--at the cost of precious seconds).

By putting a laser pointer and a white circle point of contact in the 3rd person view on the TV, there's no need to glance at the gamepad because you can readily tell if you're aiming at the weak spot or not.

Finally got around to playing this last night. The controls...aren't that bad.

I was expecting Kid Icarus Uprising levels of suck, but the controls aren't that bad. Sure there's a learning curve, but it's totally within reach and after a couple levels I was pretty comfortable with it.

Quick question. Anyone know how to use falco amiibo in arcade mode? I want to do a few runs with black arwing but not sure how. Or do I need to get all medals to unlock it fully... Just trying to make the game harder and keep me on my toes.

Does the final boss have typical Platinum/Nintendo amazing music

I want to know this and if it doesn't, ahead of time so that I'm not upset.

I've only played a bit here and there as I've been finishing up Dark Souls III, and while I've not found the controls hard at all, the genius thing about the game design is that there's so much to learn. It isn't that the controls aren't good, or complicated, for me it's that the learning curve is steep because you actually have to learn how everything functions.

I think this is what is causing some of the "bad controls" complaints. It isn't the controls, specifically. I'm still not great at the game, but the more I play it the more I've learned how to adapt to what it expects of me, and I find that to be terrific game design. I was fighting this boss that was super frustrating to me at first, then I learned new strategies that made it so much easier to manage, so the problem was on my part and not the game.

I think its good it has the evil sounding chorus a just right epic feel to it, but nothing beats new Star wolf theme... It's sooo good. Also boss A is my second favorite boss song.

How are you even supposed to figure that out on your own

It puts the yellow crosshair over them implying you can lock onto them.

Although I needed to use a guide to find out how the heck to fight Pigma, so I guess it was kind of bad.

They needed to do it that way though because the alternate path is optional.

The boss would be harder unlocked, not easier. You would have no clue when the lasers were going to fire or the shield go up.

I don't think so...at least for me. It would be easier to keep distance, and you could still lock on manually when needed.

Anyway, it took 3 tries to beat it a second time to choose the other path. Glad to be done with it. Only part of the game I've disliked so far.

I laugh reading the people having trouble with aquarosa. I'm fairly sure that I'm not very good at this game, but I feel like I really get that fight, so it makes me feel like I have some sort of super power.

Zoness with the Arwing is my shit.

Makes me wonder why they even bothered with the Gyrowing. This open level infiltration-style Arwing/Walker integration is the kind of next level shit I want to see more of in Star Fox. This alone could be a fantastic foundation going forward.

I don't know why but doing that level slow in the gyrowing and getting to know it before speed running it in the Arwing was satisfying as hell. And you're doing stuff like transforming midair and barrel rolling in mid air and all kinds of fun tricks.

Just played the first two missions and I completely agree. From all the hooplah about the controls I thought the game would be borderline unplayable, and it's actually really not bad at all. In fact, I like the gyro aiming a lot. The walker controls weren't so good but the rest of it is totally fine. Enjoying the game so far.

Man, the medal on Zoness with the arwing is totally bonkers, less than 3:20, im at like 4:20 and i don't see how i can decrease my time.

Oddly enough I got it on my first try. You can hack open that red forcefield on your way to the left generator. That sped things up for me. Avoiding kills altogether and boosting through helps.

The Venom battle with Star Wolf's team?! The most epic fucking fight. I got down to Wolf, last. We're fighting through the trenches of the sphere, transforming into Walker vs Wolf. This game is so fantastic.

The problem is i already do that, gonna try it again later to see if i can do it

Just accomplished this today.

-In the opening corridor just run through the first hole and don't unlock the barrier, obviously.

-Which ever side you choose don't worry about the spot lights on the reactors just bust in, when the security drones fly out just bomb inside that little computer room to kill em.

-Free fall as a walker into the reactor rooms.

I feel like the most time spent is actually from unlocking the reactors to changing into an arming just to get inside them.

figuring out how to breach the shield of that warship, deactivating the shield and then flying out in realtime while it's about to get blown the fuck up, only to then be
ambushed by Star Wolf
and having to aim after them while dodging/somersaulting and having to carefully land shots to get them off your teammates' tails is dope. I've only just got to Fortuna. The only level I don't like so far is Zoness (both ways).

Aquarius boss was intense too. The extra long boost is welcome here.

That's the only level I don't like at all so far. Found both versions to be unfun. If it demanded more precision and was more linear or if you couldn't go that far up without getting spotted, I might actually enjoy it. It's just kind of aimless when going for high scores. And it being the same with the Arwing is bleh

Yeah, that fight is fantastic. It's like they took the Death Star trench run and added Zoids. You vs. Wolf, Leon, Andrew and Pigma.

It's convenient that it's right at the start too, which makes it easy to replay for fun.
