A source at Sony says the company expects first-day sales to hit 200k. Early reads say the album could do between 500k-600k first week. Could it go higher?

Wendy Williams thinks it's all a work by Beyoncé and Jay Z for sales
http://www.eonline.com/news/759497/...chel-roy-is-getting-paid-by-beyonce-and-jay-z

While many people have speculated that "Becky with the good hair"—a lyric from Bey's new album—references Jay Z's alleged involvement with Rachel Roy, the daytime host called the whole thing into question during a taping of The Wendy Williams Show on Monday. In fact, she even insinuated the power couple paid off the fashion designer to take part in the drama in order to help sell more records.

"So Rachel Roy, first of all, you're not this fighting girl," Williams began. "Unless you're on Jay Z and Beyoncé's payroll, and they pay you to mix it up for I guess sales for the Lemonade."

But that wasn't the only bit of critique Williams had for Queen B.

She continued, "Quite frankly, I wish Beyoncé had held off on the album after Prince. Like, the weekend had blown over. And Bill Cosby, don't get beside yourself. Long after prince is gone, and Beyoncé and Jay Z are still together, we are going to circle back around and still deal with you."

I normally have gripe with Rihanna album's because it's my understanding that she doesn't touch the writing on many of her songs, but I know for ANTI she got into putting her kiss on much of the writing so that made it connect for me better than her past stuff for whatever reason.

That said, Bey has long had the push to leave her own mark on the concepts for her songs for the past few albums, and I've reached a new level of respect for her with Lemonade.

Definitely both great albums, but admittedly Lemonade had me rekt in ways I haven't been by an album in a while. I think Lemonade is a huge statement and success in terms of what Bey seemed to be trying to do with it, so it's on top to me.

I wonder how this era works out for her. She released Single Ladies and If I Were A Boy simultaneously and that didn't hurt her at all.

Beyoncé's popularity boomed from Destiny's Child. The group that made songs about women empowerment, and black woman pride. Destiny's Child played Soldier for an NFL half time show in 2004.

She'll be fine.

Huh? I'm talking about in terms of singles self-competition.

so when is it on itunes officially? or is it still tbd?
It's already on Amazon. Shouldn't it be on iTunes already?

[edit] Woops, says it'll be released May 6th.

It reminds me of a 2010 Terrence Malick movie, a lot of people seem to find him pretentious. I think it's because of all of the long shots and Beyoncé introspectively responding to nature and life. I think it is great.

Like, it's an album about her love life and personal history and family. It's going to have introspection; it NEEDS introspection. Not liking the implimentation, fine. But to call it pretentious seems to be really reaching.

I personally love it.

This was all over the radio on my morning drive to work. I only knew of this from seeing the thread here.

Sooooo.....Jay-Z cheated on Beyonce or something?

Pretty hypocritical especially for Beyonce fans who identify as feminists and yet attack a woman instead of the alleged man cheating.

Jay Z would be getting dragged too if he made a post online after the special aired that boiled down to "tee hee, good hair don't care". No one would have had a reason to attack her if she didn't try to be shady.

I really enjoyed what Beyonce did, but I did think it was a complete rip off of The Thin Red Line.
Couldn't find the opening scene which it reminded me most of, but this is a good example:

This doesn't justify the attacks she is receiving. Someone acting childish by "being shady/petty" does not mean thousands of crazed fans can send insults that focus on slut shaming her way.

NPR's thoughts on LEMONADE:

With this album, Beyoncé is telling us that she's made it this far in spite of the system in place; you know — the overtly sexist, subtly racist one. She was served lemons. And she made the most fire, refreshing, delectable, thirst-quenching lemonade ever known to man. Actually, scratch that — ever known to woman.

Is this no longer avialable on HBO?

You can watch it on Tidal or buy the whole visual album on Amazon or iTunes.

And what did Rachael Ray do to "deserve" being harassed? Internet is a hypocritical place when it comes to harassment.

Rachel Roy. Not the brunch lady. Lol.

Her fans were mistaking Rachael Ray for Roy and harassing her, this thread has been kind of glossing over that part as a joke. In the bigger picture it goes to show how toxic, hurtful and misguided social media and the celebrities, politicians and businesses that abuse it has become.

I just said what she did, if she hadn't said anything this wouldn't be happening. Like why would it seem like a good idea to imply that you're the carefree mistress after a huge star just alluded to being cheated on.

Re read what he wrote lol.

Listened to the whole album and watched the video. Just wow, I was not expecting this from Bey. This is her best album imo everything about it is top notch.

I can't stop listening to All Night. The bassline in the background, the trumpets, the violin, and her voice all come together so well. Gives me chills. Also a perfect song to end the video album on.

Eh, I don't feel bad for Rachel Roy one bit. Homegirl knew what she was doing.

The rumors of Jay Z's mistress being Rachel Roy died down years ago, helped by the fact that it's well-known that Jay has likely cheated on Bey with multiple women. Nobody was thinking of ol' Rachel until she hopped her butt on Instagram and not only announced to the world that she's "Becky with the Good Hair", but tried to throw some shade of her own at Beyonce for having the AUDACITY to...talk about her own husband's infidelity in her own damn music.

Dissing Rachel, from what I saw, was not a coordinated effort. It was just Beyonce's fans doing exactly what Rachel did, expressing their opinions online.

Now going after Rachel Ray? That was dumb.

Shit talking Rachel's daughter? Ratchet as fuck.

But Rachel herself? Man... I'm STILL wondering why she thought that was a good idea.

These fans were going for the kill. Think about it, these fans went to the trouble of hunting out a real person from some song's lyrics rather than just keeping it contained to the song. Once Rachel's instagram went private, they needed some way to bully her so they went through her daughter. That's calculated cyberbullying.

And I bet fans were thinking that this kind of bullying was a way of defending Beyonce in some kind of twisted logic as if she can't do that herself.

The only saving grace in this is these fans just leave hateful comments and aren't male unemployed doxxers like as part of gamergate who spend all their time ruining women's lives from top to bottom.
