Star Fox Zero |OT| The Fox Awakens

I can not find all the little silver coins on Zoness as the Gyrowing, can anyone help me out?

When you hack a light to turn it off hack it again to make it a spotlight that reveals hidden items (including the coins).

You know how one of the generators has an exploding box on a little ledge on your way down? There's a little area for the direct-i behind the box that has a coin in it. There's also a coin in the same place in the other generator.

Those are probably the ones you are missing.

I knew it had something to do with those lights but I never thought to turn them on again. I just blew them up with bombs. A bit of a questionable design choice to me.

There's one spotlight already deactivated in the level that reveals a medal once you activate it. I thought that made it obvious.

Oh, I don't mean to suggest I'm a pro at them. In fact, I don't consciously try to go for gold medals, not yet anyways. When it happens, it happens by accident. I just like replaying those levels because I love their purity of design. Aquarosa, especially, is a brilliant expression of everything that makes this game unique.

Ah, I understand.

IMO, the bosses are heavily benefited from Target View, and I really, really like it. The boss of Great Fox level uses it in an extremely awesome way -
after you damaged it enough, you have to guide it to the lasers of Great Fox,
- and it could be my favourite boss in the game if it was more harder and more different from Fortuna boss.

Oh, and the moment when you escape the blast zone of destroyed Copperhead missiles looks and plays really cool!

I usually like Jim, but his bad opinions on games like Kid Icarus and Starfox, and good opinions with horrible broken shit like Fallout 4 completly differ from mine. I just dont listen to his opinions on those kinds of games and go my merry way.

Also in my first run.
Silvers, silvers everywhere.

I guess if Resident Evil Revelations 2 killed Sterling's dog (5/10), then Starfox made a suit out of the dog's hide and danced around in it.

tfw when you do an arcade mode run and die on the escape sequence of venom

My score up to that point was 2208 for the Corneria - Sector A - Zone 3 - Zoness - Beta - Fortuna - Omega - Corneria 2 - Venom route. Wish this game had leaderboards.

Yeah, between Jim hating RER2, KIU and now Zero, I don't exactly trust his opinion for game reviews. Still enjoy his commentary on greedy corporations, though.

Finished unlocking all the paths/stages in main game. Time played is at 9:48, though that includes some time in training mode. I like the game, but it doesn't measure up to SF64 for me. But I'd still give it a solid 7.5 or so.

Going to try out arcade mode now.

I'm sure it'll sell well for a WiiU game, being a new Star Fox in a sparse lineup.

The real question is whether Nintendo will listen to the people who complained (many of whom didn't even play the game, but hey!).

I'm quietly confident we'll get a Star Fox NX (Star Fox One?) and it'll play like Zero. Reason being Miyamoto. He does his own thing, and when he's passionate about something, Nintendo supports it.

Look at Pikmin 3, now going on Pikmin 4, and the animated shorts that came out. Now consider Zero (and by association, Guard). Consider the enthusiasm Miyamoto has shown for it, and the ways they've promoted it (Jim Henson puppets at E3, the Production IG short, etc).

Miyamoto believes in this game and its gameplay. I think he'd sooner take another stab at refining it than bowing to the critics who didn't put in the time for it to click. Such a sequel would also be received more smoothly since people would know what to expect, and more people would know how to play going into it.

Well, I think it's more of a factor of if Miyamoto will have the time to do a sequel, or if he's slated to be doing other projects. After all, Miyamoto did more to step back with StarFox games after 64, and I could easily see it happening again.

There's a good part of me that's willing to believe that know that they've got a good enough foundation to elaborate on, P* may just get the ability to make "StarFox 1" themselves. Or at least, that's what I'd hope. As fun as the vehicle combat has been, I could easily see P* upping the ante in a variety of interesting ways.

My wishlist for Star Fox One? Add Faye and Miyu to Team Star Fox:

Would be great to see, as well. They should be first in line, if they were to ever think about widening about the Star Fox roster, anyway.

And hell, bring back Panther so that Wolf can have another to add to his team.

Same, I agree with Sterling on a lot of topics, but we definitely have different taste in games.

I don't like Krystal as a character as a whole, but her banter in Star Fox Assault was quite good. I won't mind having Fay or Miyu with the similar attitude.

And hell, bring back Panther so that Wolf can have another to add to his team.

And please make Oikonny a dork! That was the best part of Star Fox Assault's introduction.

It's odd, but when in the main area of the level there are search lights that can be shut off. Turn them off and on to reveal the remaining coins. Also don't worry about going into the light for ones you turned on, they're now on your side and do not count as being seen.

I had trouble with this one too cause of how hidden they were. The rest of the coins are easily found in the open or in small rooms for the robot to go into.

Maybe Kat could form her own all-female squad with Krystal, Miyu and Faye.

GURL POWAH!

The "all-girls team" was one of the possible finales of Star Fox Command. It involved Katt (which totally wasn't the flirting Katt Monroe of Star Fox 64), Krystal, Peppy's daughter and Slippy's girlfriend.

In my book, scores lower than 4 are reserved for games which don't work.

Assuming we're talking about a 10-point scale, then 5 would be what an average game should/would earn - a game that doesn't even work should probably be a 1 or a 0.

That said, I pretty much agree with Sterling. I let my Amazon pre-order slide in the hopes that all the criticisms about the controls were hyperbole, but nope - I got stuck on the first chicken walker stage, and I'm not picking this game back up again until they patch the controls.

I'm glad that a minority of people are enjoying the game despite the controls, but man, after playing the new PS4 Ratchet & Clank game (a remake of an old game that bends over backwards to be as welcoming to current players as possible), playing such a bass-ackwards game built around cart-before-the-horse control gimmicks is just that much more disappointing.

After putting so much into the game and enjoying every bit of it, it's pretty devastating to see its poor critical reception likely having a big impact on the sales.
This is what I've wanted out of the series since Star Fox 64 and it's likely the last game in the series for a long time.
I played Star Fox Zero for over 10 hours. I know it's not broken, I know it's not bad.
I like seeing them experimenting with controls allowing for new gameplay experiences and level design. A game has less limitations when the controls are less limiting just as console games need to be designed around dual analog sticks and everything that requires.
Like, I get stuff like Sticker Star since that's poor game design throughout, but the game is very good. Some of the best action I've experienced in a long time.
Shame people aren't putting in the effort to try and learn the controls. I wonder how much of an impact the rumors had.
Also, Jim's 2/10 is crazy.

I'd love to see something like picking your teammates for the specific mission.

Like, Team starfox only had 4 Arwings, but 6 pilots. So I load up Meteo and I have to pick which 3 will accompany me.

Maybe each person has bonuses like

Falco - Occasionally drops bombs for pick up
Slippy - Displays health over enemy targets
Peppy - Barrel Rolls/Boosts/Brake consume fuel more slowly
Faye - Charge Shots charge faster
Miyu - Provides minimap for all range mode.

Though, at this point I kind of feel like Faye and Miyu have sort of evolved into Bill and Kat respectively.

Miyu and Faye were great designs, its a pity they where never used, not even in command when everyone and their mothers was in that game. Would love them to see them back.

Wouldnt mind Krystal be in a good star fox on rails game for a change.
They are going to need to totally rewrite the sequels though. Its funny that in the Star Fox Zero anime they already mention they are coming from Sauria, so maybe Fox already knows Krystal in this timeline.

I understand that this would be totally not in line with Star Fox as a series, but some bond/affinity system would be perfect for this kind of setup. And, of course, alternative banter lines as an replaying incentive.

Imagine if whenever you don't bring Falco along, your wingmates just complain about Falco being a dick

I wonder if going to the training room a few times before starting allowed me to be pretty good at the game once I started.
Having so few issues seems to be uncommon?
Regardless, I'd recommend anyone having issues to try the training mission a few times. It's pretty fun, I think

Well...in SF64 (and I'll assume here as well) that if you had Slippy for the final boss, you'd see their health bar. So it wouldn't be completely out of the blue to play around with that idea more.

I never really played training mode outside the opening of the game. I played the entire game in co-op and it was great. I learned how to use the the motion controls just using the gamepad to aim and my brother used the Arwing. I was surprised to how good I was playing single player after a story run of co-op and beat arcade mode on my first try.

I routinely revisit Training, not out of necessity, but because it's fun. The first Walker training mission is addictive! If you collect all the gold coins within the time limit, it spawns another set... and another set... and so on.

In other words, you can treat it like a score attack exercise with a great mix of dashing, hover-jumping, flying, shooting, etc.

They are going to need to totally rewrite the sequels though. Its funny that in the Star Fox Zero anime they already mention they are coming from Sauria, so maybe Fox already knows Krystal in this timeline.

I didn't look that deeply into the Sauria mention. To me, it's no different from how certain planets from the original game made the jump to the 64 game in different form, which then in turn made the jump to Zero.

But unless we start hearing that random blue fox girls fleeing from blown up home planets (which are quickly forgotten!) are wandering the galaxy again, I'm wondering if she'll even be enough of a thought for someone to want to bring back. And it's not like they don't have the opportunity to bring in ladies old or new into the fold, instead, either way.

And please make Oikonny a dork! That was the best part of Star Fox Assault's introduction.

Yeah...for that matter, I never liked how Assault took it upon itself to kill off both Andrew and Pigma off. If you wanted to take 'em off Wolf's team in order to free up the roster for new characters, fine. But killing them rather pointlessly, when they mean quite a bit more in the grander scale of the plot (and the potential thereof), always came off as a waste.

Hell, if they ever bother to bring back Dash Bowman (who I'm sure was just a clone that Andross forgot, bump that "grandson" nonsense!), it would have been interesting to see him and Andrew interact.

For Star Fox One, feature two campaigns:

Campaign #1: Team Star Fox

Fox
Falco
Slippy
Peppy

Campaign #2: Team Cloudrunner

Krystal
Katt
Miyu
Faye

And an unlocakble third campaign:

Campaign #3: Star Wolf

Wolf
Leon
Andrew
Panther

Where's Pigma? He's so treacherous he betrays Wolf, as per Assault!

The Roadmaster is pretty hectic fun too. I really want to go and get all the medals so I can do the challenges.

I definitely feel like the Roadmaster should have been in the actual main game as opposed to the Gyrowing. Maybe they felt that there were already enough "road" vehicles but it's one of the most fun vehicles in here as far as control goes.

It's honestly pretty disappointing that someone who...usually.... is all about "finding the middle ground", understanding both sides of an argument and sometimes even playing devils advocate just come off as flatout ignorant.
I also don't think Jim's ego would allow him to soften his stance if, say, he played a few more hours and the controls clicked. At least, he wouldn't admit it in public!

Andrew's actually alive in Command. He's a random boss working for the Anglars. Though I don't blame you for forgetting, because, let's be real, it was Command.

Concerning Krystal, I think she should come back, but she needs an overhaul on backstory and a more interesting personality. She didn't play off the rest of the team well in Assault, but that game sort of took itself too seriously anyway. She comes off better in Smash Bros. Brawl's secret conversations though.

Just introduce her as a member of the team that they met on some nebulous assignment on Sauria and tie her doomed planet into the actual story of the sequel. Just skip over Adventures and ignore Assault and don't have a big time skip of like eight years or whatever it was supposed to be between 64 and Adventures.

Assuming they make a proper sequel that isn't ten years down the line and isn't a reboot, lol.

Just beat Aquarosa, the problem its not the EMP, its the freaking lasers and ships going after you while trying to go as fast as you can.

Just grabed the LE for 60€ wooohoooo

Its 49 at media markt, I got mine yesterday and think they are sending more along the rest of the week, becuase a carrefour told me the same thing.

I also liked it, reminds me of MGS VR missions.

Training mode are in themselves little, highly replayable, levels. I've been playing them a bunch

Yep, it's condensed gameplay levels composed of blocks. It's cool

IIRC

SF64 gave your wingmen specific abilities.

Slippy gave you boss health bars. Peppy showed you boss weaknesses and Falco... I think Falco just shot at things a bit more, which is actually kind of an annoyance if you are trying to high scores.

The more I think of my Team Cloudrunner idea, the more I like it.

Just introduce them as an all-female rival team to Star Fox. Friendly rivals, unlike Star Wolf. The idea could be that Krystal is the privileged princess of Sauria and decided to start her own squad to defend her neck of the woods. Katt joined her, as well as her friends Miyu and Faye.

I'd love to spend more time on Sauria, too. It's a great setting with a lot of potential.

Only problem with the Team Cloudrunner idea is Katt might have to give up her ship to conform with the others. Or maybe all four girls can just use ships that look like Katt's...

Falco had a couple of stage specific things he would do to help you, like taking out a couple of hard to hit searchlights in Zoness and hitting a late, hard to hit switch in Macbeth.

The thing to remember (but that's easy to forget) with Aquarosa is you're asking for trouble if you approach the lasers head on. Better to fly past them at an angle so their laser shoots behind you, while using your cockpit view to look at them to your side and shoot them.

I really like this idea.
Just blast assault and the majority of dinosair planet out of conitnuity. Assault took itslef too seriously. WTF was that Pigma death. And the ending with peppy? fuck that.

I think theres a twitter somewhere with the director of that game saying if there would be a sequel he would like to bring her back.

I know he was also necessary for the Alt-Boss of Corneria. You had to "impress" (read: show off in front of) him.

Huh, is that right? Go fig! Couldn't be bothered to play the game long for that, haha.

My personal biases against her aside...I guess my main thing was that no matter how much the games tried to establish (re: force) her as "one of the guys", she just never really gelled. But to be fair, I guess that's what happens when she's established first as "the love interest", and didn't get a chance for much else.

In any case, aside from her Smash appearances, she hasn't actually appeared in a series game for what's now been over a decade. If we do get a sequel to Zero sometime down the road, it'd be even longer. Then the question would be, is it really be worth going back for a character who was reasonably divisive and a hallmark of a divisive era, or just forge ahead and introduce a new/like new character, who doesn't have that kind of baggage?

I want Krystal back. They can reintegrate her, fix up her background, make her gel better with the team, etc.

It's a reboot/reimagining so some things can be retconned and altered so that things like story and characters are less convoluted and detached.

I absolutely need the entire OST...

and not these 30 minutes extended youtube low quality stuff, I want the best to listen to this one. :O

So how do I get even higher hit bonuses?

I'm reading around youtube that if you have max bombs that changes your HIT+ multiplier. This true?

I don't know about that but if you have max bombs and collect another you'll get a bonus three hits. The same goes for lasers.
