NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

Omg, just woke up to this. Was there any indication that the NX was delayed to 2017. Can't imagine Nintendo wants a holiday with nothing coming out.

Also not going to be shocked if the NX and Zelda get delayed to the end of 2017

You positivity does not belong here.

This is a thread where we talk about how it's better for Nintendo to have another unprepared and poor showing of the console that they hope to carry them for the next 5 years than to just show it on their own time in a month or two afterwards.
Ok? Bye now!

No, they should get their shit together already, get back to industry standards, and then have a good E3 showing - signalising that they aren't completely out of touch anymore. Automatically assuming that they'd have an unprepared shit show is exactly the problem and narrative they need to fight to be relevant again. Showing up at the most important core gaming event like a dead man is a stupid and unnecessary handicap.

A 2017 launch was always extremely likely but anyone even suggesting it got buried with snarky posts from fans in the NX thread.

2016 was never real

Nah. If anything bringing one game to E3 show that it was meant to be an NX blowout for a holiday release. They have obviously missed their target.

Is it really the most important thing? Is it?

Anything Sony does at e3 would resonate just as hard at their own event that they announce to the media. E3 is just a week in the summer.

Nobody has a "good" E3 showing. They have a bad showing, and maybe announce one or two things that are so *annoying twitch streamer voice* HYPE that everyone ends up forgetting how bad the showing is.

I'm OK with this

There are some Miitomo questions asking opinions on VR. If Miitomo really is used to get information for Nintendo, they might be using that.

I didn't even know about this.

"brand new" though. Doesn't that mean something not seen before?

Well the VR patent is definitely interesting in using the TV as a VR device while wearing typical glasses. Johnny Lee actually made a video in 2007 that pretty much describes the patent https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw

The AR patent discusses things like being able to project things onto the wall. It lists no glasses or lens just a device you'd likely place on your coffee table.

I have no idea if either could be use or if both may be used but they're interesting nonetheless.

I massively doubt it was delayed. This matches the suggestion of AMDs rollout of custom SOC that was mentioned recently. Announcing in 2016 makes sense, and there is no indication that there are "nintendo wants a holiday where nothing comes out".

2016 is going to be Pokemon year I suspect.

Where does that come from I wonder? Genuine question btw, since Nintendo seems to keep itself alive pretty well after all.

The Nintendo-doomed joke is a meme Nintendo fans use to divert attention away from the actual realities of the company's position in the market place. Let's not for a second act as if everything is rosy.

Their last console bombed spectacularly, they've lost both the hardcore audience to Sony/Microsoft and the casual audience to Mobile/Tablet.

They have terrible third party relations and plan to launch their next system in 2017 against what will likely be a combined install base of 70m Xbox One and PS4 consoles.

The handheld market is burning to the ground, and the NX handheld is more than likely to sell even less than the 3DS.

Selling a shit tonne of Amiibo's and Splatoon selling beyond expectations doesn't negate the fact that as a hardware/platform holder, Nintendo's future is bleak.

Just saw the news. Zelda delayed to 2017 is the bigger shock for me, even though it makes perfect sense with NX not coming before March.
The thing is Nintendo keep taking WAY too long between console Zeldas and keep saying they intend to improve this, but instead the time between releases is just getting longer..

I'm beyond disappointed. Nintendo just doesn't give a shit about e3 anymore.

And 2017 is just too late for Zelda and NX. Of course I will be there day 1.... but I just wish day 1 were sooner than nearly a year away.

Another thing for the "this thing is getting delayed to Fall 2017" peeps to keep in mind. Nintendo's upcoming fiscal year will be complete death (even worse than this year) if they don't get this thing out in March. The Wii U is as dead as ever and the 3DS is on the decline. The Nikkei report about Wii U production ending in the fall seems to be true given the estimate of 800k units for the entire fiscal year upcoming, so if the Fall 2017 thing turns out true, it would have to mean that Nintendo goes months on end without manufacturing consoles.

That's the #1 reason why they gave a release date, and a March release date, before the end of the fiscal year. That doesn't necessarily mean that they will fulfill it, even if they want it because it's in their best interest.

I doubt it'll get delayed. They'll sure have the Zelda ready by then (or no because the development seems to be a total mess), and 1, 2 or 3 other interesting games. They can later release a big Mario or a Pokémon or a Animal Crossing or a Mario Kart. The line-up needs to be solid, but releasing the console before April 2017 is more important I believe.

Here are your NX launch games:

3DS Super Mario 3D Land 10.730.000
Super Mario 3D World 4.820.000

3DS Mario Kart 7 13.260.000
WIU Mario Kart 8 7.500.000

Add ports to fill out the library:

WIU Splatoon 4.270.000
WIU Super Mario Maker 3.520.000
WIU Super Smash Bros. for Wii U 4.800.000
3DS Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS 8.120.000

For the first holiday season:

3DS Animal Crossing: New Leaf 10.000.000

And people think Nintendo is insane/done

Yep. Everyone seems to forget that everyone's conferences are usually overpadded boring affairs aside from one or two diamonds, the last two years were no different. At least Nintendo's last two digital events were short.

Quoting myself from the other thread:

"Actually, looking at the numbers now, I understand Nintendos decisions a bit better.

Digital business, amiibo, mobile and stuff are going to hold their revenue up while 3DS and Wii U go down, operating income in % is going to increase because of digital business and decreased production cost for 3DS / Wii U.

Look at their forecasts, it's bascially the same for this fiscal year while increasing income.

Then they open the next fiscal year with the NX and an enhanced digital, mobile and IP - business."

They have too many IP to have a bleak future in the hardware/platform business (and too many millions of fans). Nintendo is not going anywhere.

Anyone else still in shock? I can hardly believe all of this.

Yup, prior to the meeting, this was far below even the worst possible scenario in my eyes.

At worst I thought a "we will be releasing a new console this Year and will be unveiling it at E3" but this is a step even below that, it's now "we'll be releasing a console in march but fuck you, we won't tell you anything about it at E3 or when you can expect to learn about it"

I also wouldn't put it past them to be "aiming" for March, knowing that they're going to delay it

e3 Is just making less and less sense. I can't see it being around in the next five years.

Yep, that's not like they said last year that they had a poor E3 because they were preparing their next generation, and that we had to come back in 2016 to see it. That's not like they delayed, once again, the Zelda that should've have the "Wii U" Zelda we've all been looking for.

And 2 months don't change the world this far. They even gave a release date ! So they could have got everything ready for June, even if it's just announcing concept, a few games, a release date. That's enough, and later in the year you give more informations about the line-up. This is a choice they made, not something that was forced into them.

But thanks for trying to save them here. You're brave.

I tried to be brave and save you, Nintendo. I failed. I'm sorry.

Wow.....I was fully expecting to having a great Nintendo holiday this year.....what the fuck. No E3 is really awkward. I really hope that's Nintendo not being different for the sake of Nintendo. Well the direct this year will only have one interesting title for me then......bummed

This better be a REALLY great Nintendo gaming box that will combine (exclusive) Wii U and 3DS support. This release date just completely shot the chance for the NX to have solid third party AAA support.

People aren't going to wait 3-4 months to play AAA Holiday 2016 multiplats. Low multiplat sales = low multiplat support.

Zelda getting delayed this long typically means trouble development. That is what happened with SS.It is possible it was delayed just because of the NX, but if their plan from the start was to release the NX in March 2017, I can't imagine that would be a good idea. It would have been better to release it in the end of 2017, and have an ultimate edition or whatever at NX launch like Sony did with tLoU

To me, the news today indicates that Zelda has had similar development troubles, or the NX was originally going to come out in 2016 (or both)

shocking but better give them time to prepare the system right this time.

Reagarding E3: What if there are no playable games with the exception of Zelda because the titles which will be revealed are NX launch games? Since they don't show the console itself at E3 maybe they will show some of its games

Is there any chance Nintendo is completely lying about the 'only Zelda E3' and 'NX 03/2017' and giving us one hell of a surprise announcement on E3?

How is it not? You don't even know what the system is or what it is capable of.

For all we know, it is backward compatible, gets announced during the holidays and several games that are less of a system seller get released for WiiU as part of that - who the hell knows. Heck it might even be both a portable system and console with cross compatibility across both for some titles

It's far better to invest in a solid lineup of content. If Nintendo's event can demonstrate strong reasoning for getting it, people will get it.

Not even Nintendo would decide this on principle if something didn't happen on the way to production. Now with the delay for these games, their expansion to the mobile markets, FURTHER restructuring of the company to include more business centric divisions and a new executive board. I feel like they were well aware of the problems plaguing them beforehand and they're responding with delays in order to make sure the rest goes smoothly.

Is there any chance Nintendo is completely lying about the 'only Zelda E3' and 'NX 03/2017' and giving us one hell of a surprise announcement on E3?

Nah.

Can someone please explain Nintendo strategy to me? Cause it seems that they're sending the NX out without any hype and buzz from any but their most devoted fanbase.

I see no attempt thus far to grab more casual gamers.

It is like Kyle Bosman said, Nintendo is like a stubborn big elephant who doesn't give a shit about the industry and walks annoyingly. In the end they do well.

It is really sad to read comments like "Nintendo doesn't want to be buried by other news". Few years ago Nintendo WAS the news!!!
