Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

You're completely right; I've tried out the 3DS XL, and it's so much better. The New 3DS is also apparently completely better. Hell, I played the 2DS and that was an improvement. I have no idea why I bought an OG 3DS when it's so crappy compared to the revisions. I feel like an idiot.

I might just wait for Monster Hunter Generations so I can get a N3DS bundle with the game.
I was actually going to say when I saw your post last night, the 2DS is pretty solid. I don't find it to be the most comfortable, but the thing seems to be built like a rock.

Dragon Age Inquisition's graphics are underrated/don't get enough praise.

It's a title that's rarely mentioned in graphics discussions, but I honestly think it looks better than many of the games usually brought up.

I wouldn't say better than W3 but I agree that it looks great. I've been playing after I beat W3 and I'm constantly surprised at how nice it looks.

I'm trying to romance this lady...

NFS PS4 is fantastic even with the always online. Started it thinking I'd play a bit to pass time and I think I'm gonna plat it. So much guilty pleasure fun. It also looks amazing.

The Bravely Default demo bored me to tears, so I skipped the full game.

And even though I'm currently a little starved for JRPG goodness, I can't bring myself to care about Bravely Second. Looks like more of the same.

The Souls series has a primitive camera and lock-on system. It feels like it was made by amateurs still figuring out how to develop in 3d spaces. Ocarina of Time still does it better than these games.

I've made this argument before and I'm with you 100%

Sure, the facial graphics and animation are nothing next to the witcher, but on pretty much every other regard, DA:I looks better.

Just look at http://deadendthrills.com/gallery/?gid=131

Fucking hell, literally less than an hour after this post my left shoulder button completely crapped out in the middle of hunting a G-rank Zinogre. No auto-target function, so I had to entirely rely on the shitty ass touch-screen D-pad for the camera. No switching items, so no sharpening my weapon or using nullberries. Predictably, I failed the quest.

So my 3DS is finally, for all intents and purposes, dead.

Fuck the Nintendo 3DS. This is the worst experience with a piece of Nintendo hardware I've ever had.

Blow as hard as you can into the space under the shoulder button from the side of the 3DS. My right shoulder button becomes unresponsive at times and this usually gets it working again. I read it online somewhere and didn't believe it, but it worked for me so give it a try.

With today's news, I can now finally say this for sure:

The Wii U is the worst console I've ever owned.
shenmue is a bad game
You'll have to make a defense of that.

I can see people not liking it, but I think from a less preferential standpoint, it's pretty damn impressive.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try when I get home. Hopefully it works.

The Wii U marks Nintendo's second straight console they will leave to rot and die while they plan their next console to "launch with a strong line up" (because we haven't heard that one before). At this point, it boggles my mind why we believe anything this company says in the console space. Or continue to buy anything from them that isn't on a portable or a toy.

Are we the problem? Or Nintendo? Or both? Do we continue to hope and dream that they will make games as good as our Nostalgic riddled minds believe they were when we were kids?

I think we're all nuts. =P

And notice how those (magnificent) screenshots show mainly 2-3 areas. Witcher 3 has very little biome variety whereas in DA:I you basically have it all. Also, DA:I has much better design inside structures and in urban settings, you don't see much of that in W3 outside of villages/ruins/Novigrad.

Point is, there is a lot more to graphics than just higher fidelity (in which, of course, W3 takes with ease). DA:I is a better graphically designed game, in my eyes.

I think a certain "cult of personality" has built up around Nintendo, where their fans defend them to the point that legitimate criticism is taken as trolling and the idea that Nintendo can do no wrong, despite demostrateable proof that this isn't true. This, combined with Nintendo's limited reach out to, well, anyone leaves an echo chamber effect where Nintendo continue to misread their entire market and then wonder why their products don't sell.

The situation has changed since last time. One of the major factors that lead to the Wii U launch being terrible is no longer an issue.

In my view, Nintendo has a unique issue with its most obsessive fans because Nintendo - until recent years at least - was the gateway to video games for children. And so Nintendo is both blessed and cursed by warped childhood memories driving fans to simultaneously pine for them and curse them to hell for failing to recreate the precise sensation of playing Ocarina of Time on a new N64 on christmas morning.

I sometimes count my blessings that I'm old enough to have been out of the formative years by the time the NES hit its prime. I really like the way Nintendo makes games, including modern Nintendo. I buy them because I enjoy them. But I have little expectations over Nintendo's products and performance meaning anything to the game industry or my identity as a "gamer" or a "fan". They don't owe me a magical dream game because I spent some money on their products in the past.

If they stay in business and make a product I want to play, I'll give them some more money. The same way I give money to Sony, or Blizzard or whoever.

I hate 3d flying games, they are like water levels without a blue filter. Going into a thread to find out about a game only to find it's a flying game is a disappointing experience.

I enjoy the look of Dark Souls II better than the look of Dark Souls.

I get a feeling of frisson every time I step around the corner into Majula.

I hate the "PcMasterRace" elitism that has started to surround the pc gaming community and I prefer console gaming to PC. I've been PC gaming since before most of the kids with this attitude were born. I've gone through 10 generations of PC gaming rigs but can't stand the down talk "Peasants"towards consoles.

/Unpopluar opinion off.

Oh my God

Not only did blowing into the left and right shoulder buttons fix those problems, but blowing into the control stick hole fixed its wonkiness.

The system wasn't broken, it was just full of dust. I feel like such an idiot. Thank you so much for helping me deal with that.

Final Fantasy XI had the best story of all the Final Fantasies.

I didn't think Final Fantasy VII was all that great. At the time it took away the medieval setting I liked so much about the series and I could never forgive it. Even when I tried to ignore the setting, I didn't really like Cloud or Sephiroth and the whole game basically feels as if Cloud is chasing Sephiroth to make out and cuddle but is too embarrassed to admit it.

The original Xbox is one of my fav consoles out there, I even like it more than the PS2 at times.

I can't be the only one who prefers shorter games to longer ones, right?

I don't mind playing the inferior version of a game as long as it's still fun to play.

Sega Dreamcast is better than most Nintendo consoles IMO.

Star Fox Assault is the best Star Fox game, and one of the best multiplayer games on the GC.

Nintendo can do absolutely nothing to win back 3rd party support. You may think this isn't THAT controversial, but there's a lot of people out there who think 3rd parties will come if Nintendo makes a powerful console, markets to more mature demographics, blah blah blah. My point is: none of that matters. With the cost of game development these days, no AAA publisher will invest the hundreds of thousands of dollars to support an additional platform whose fans probably only play Nintendo games. Of course, none of this matters to me because Nintendo consoles have been a secondary console since N64.

Realistic style of graphics don't impress me at all, no matter the caliber. To me, Uncharted 4 and Ryse don't look anywhere near as good as the new Rachet & Clank for example.

Knack fans are delusional. Game is a braindead waste of time.

eSports have a reputation for being dorky and stupid, but I enjoy how they build communities around games, especially ones that may not be ultra popular like CS or LoL (like Melee, or Halo).

Because I value experiences that are heavily focused on gameplay mechanics, and don't care about narrative or story, Nintendo and MS have way better first party exclusives than Sony.

And to further that a little bit more, I don't subscribe to the narrative on gaf that Sony exclusives are more "artistic" or "creative" than MS or Nintendo's offerings. I would expand on this, but I don't want to write an entire essay.

Agreed!

Also, i respect what the last of us is as a story, but maybe its because i tried to play it for the first time and had nearly all of the plot spoiled for me in the 3 years its been out but I could not get into it, like at all.

I really really want Nintendo to die. I hope people pick apart their franchises like vultures.

I dont want them to die, just go third party. Gimme Mario and Halo on the same box!

The Souls series uses cheap ways to make the games more difficult. It is also designed around being highly repetitious.

Shenmue is complete garbage.

As a game, it's extremely slow and boring.

As a story, it's got a bland plot, one dimensional characters, poorly directed cutscenes, and some of the worst voice acting of all time.

The fact that people hold it up as one of the best games on the Dreamcast just goes to show you how crappy that system's library really is.

And I'll go even further: Sega has never made a good console, and most of their games are overrated and shallow.

Trying to kick the oxygen habit?

The WiiU has been a disappointing failure to me. I've only played like 5 games on it. Bayonetta (which I've already played and beaten on the ps3), Bayonetta 2, SM3DW, Xenoblade, and Wonderful 101. The only games I'm interested in playing are Tropical Freeze and Splatoon. But only seven games for me for this console now that Zelda is coming out for the NX and Nintendo is probably gonna drop support for the WiiU so there will be no reason for me to even buy Zelda on the WiiU even if I wanted to. I can't remember the last time I was this disappointed in a gaming console.

I really enjoyed Bloodbourne, but I find the From Software games are a double standard in gaming. Like the Emperor's new Clothes, You talk bad about it and you're "gamer cred" is on the line.

They have an great combat system and phenomenal world design, but no way to track quests, no explanations of how many of the games mechanics important work, and 0 storyline. Instead they opt for a devout fanbase to explain away the lore. If any other game pulled this off, they've be panned.

Didn't stop me from pumping 100 hours into it gleefully. I just couldn't get past those stated flaws.
