With Trump's Indiana Win Can he Be stopped?

Scathing. I just don't see this "landslide for Hillary" that people have been trying to sell since last summer. People can talk about it like it's a thing, but that doesn't make it a thing. Trump is more charismatic than anyone else running, and he'll be going against a candidate with zero (or is it negative?) charisma.

Can't win national elections with just white men voting for you. Trump is hated by women and minorities.

Agreed,

There are A LOT of people who won't vote for Hillary. Trump is starting to push to appeal to the Sanders supporters. There is something about a 2nd Clinton presidency that leaves a sour taste in people mouths. Plus the fact that she'll send you all her emails, but her speech transcripts are not up for grabs seems very telling.

Either way, who would have thought 2 years ago this is the election cycle we would have gotten in the US.

It's like all the negative energy from centuries of US politics coalesced into a situation worse than anybody could have imagined. And we get to live through it!

The only challenger left is Hillary, but I think its too early to say who would win. The general polls now are a bit useless with primaries still ongoing.

Am I the only one who thinks Trump isn't all that bad? I find myself agreeing with his positions a lot more than I agree with Cruz, or Kasich, or Rubio and etc.

You're free to think what you want and vote for who you like. I think Trump is pretty bad, but I think Hillary is pretty bad too. I think a significant segment of the voting populous is going to feel like Trump is worth giving a chance as a 4 yr experiment over more Clinton/stock politician/establishment/etc, but we'll see how it shakes out.

He is going to pivot so hard though. Once he wraps up the nomination he is going to go hard after minorities and women. The transgender sympathy was him letting the cat out of the bag early, and it did zero damage to him among Republican voters.

There are a lot of things that have yet to be revealed about Trump's past since the republicans haven't bothered to use it yet. I expect the democrats to bring up this stuff in the general election. He's also polling really horribly with women and minorities right now and I don't think that will change which can make it possible for a landslide victory for the democrats to occur in November.

That's a big thing. Another year the republicans lost me as a voter. Maybe when I'm 50 that party will get its shit together.

It's been clear that he was going to sew up the nomination for months. Come general election, however, he'll get thoroughly beaten by Clinton. Trump has left such an unbroken breadcrumb trail of fucked up statements and changing positions for the last eight to ten months that he's given his opposition all the ammo they need to paint him as the opportunistic gimmick candidate he is with no need to use the usual underhandedness that comes with GE political adverts.

I thought Cruz would win Indiana. He is only winning two counties. One of those by 30 votes or so. If he does this poorly in a conservative Indiana, he will struggle in California. Also a poll in West Virginia had Trump at 61%.

Cruz could still win Nebraska, Montana, and South Dakota, but he needed to win Indiana to really have a decent chance of stopping Trump on a first ballot

I get all this. I'm scared to death that liberals will buy into him not having a chance and stay home on election day.

I hate to burst your bubble but approximately half of the attendees at Trump rallies are women. I also know plenty of women Trump supporters. The fight isn't over yet. :(

He can try, but I don't think it'll work.

Well, the good news(?) is that the worst future (cruz) is going down in flames.

I'll take the victories where I can find them!

Romney won white women by 17 points.

Its unlikely, but if Trump pushed the white vote an extra 5% in his favor compared to 2012, that would be enough to potentially flip Ohio+Pennsylvania+Florida which would get him to 270.

He is still going to get at least 40% of the vote come November, which is sad because a reality TV star shouldn't even come close to getting that much support in a sane world. But that's just how polarized we have become. The days of 60%/400 EV blowouts like Johnson/Goldwater, Reagan/Mondale, etc. are long gone.

I think there's more to fear from voter suppression. Who knows how many AA voters will be disenfranchised by bogus voter id requirements.

Conventional wisdom would agree with you, but if we're still applying conventional wisdom to a phenomenon then we're probably not giving due credit. I also think that if he would be running against a candidate with any kind of persona he would be facing a severe climb, but I get this feeling he's the perfect storm for Hillary Clinton. As they say in boxing, styles make fights.

True believers knew he can and will get the Nom.
Even though the media pitch against him was/is so strong. Look back to July last year, Mr Trumps unfavorably rating to how it is now with Republicans.
He ran a masterful campaign to get within touching distance of the nom, without the giant spend.

Now, next target is GE. I don't put too much weight in the current polls.
August/September 2016 is where the real numbers will be.
The outreach and embracing to Sanders supporters is going to be amazing.

The RNC rules committee doing something would be the only shot at this point, I think (barring Trump completely imploding).

Yeah to my knowledge there's no law that says Trump has to be the nominee.

The powers that be in the Republican Party could just be like "no lol" and the most Trump would have is a civil suit.

Why is Kasich still in this?? He's 4th in a 3 man race. Rubio quit a month ago and he's still behind him.

Quit tonight. Have some dignity.

so you are a trump supporter. i'll keep that in mind.
No. I'm a Hillary supporter if anything, but a Trump victory would make me less sad than either Sanders or Cruz.

I just don't want people to count Trump out and assume he's guaranteed to lose for this reason or that. Most of the evidence suggests he very much still has a chance in the GE.

Lol, don't be scared of Cruz.

When Trump starts a war with Mexico, because he's trying to force a sovereign nation into paying for something they don't want (a wall) it will turn out that both candidates suck.

He is the next president after all.

it's hard to tell if anyone here seriously believes this

eh i'll say he has a shot just by being the republican candidate but the demographics are going to be completely against him.

How did you draw that conclusion from that post?
i was mostly going to use this to troll lilith in the funny pics thread but she might be for hillary so it's not funny anymore.

Ooop at Sanders ahead of Hilldog in Indiana right now.

OT: I think Trump will pick a VP who will win back Women. However this will be the first election in 2 years where we won't (most likely) have a black candidate to draw in the minority vote in droves. Also Trump can win certain states that no other GOP candidate could. He can challenge ha in NY, Cali, etc.

I was actually surprised by the amount of pro-Trump women and Hispanics at the Trump rally in Costa Mesa, CA.

I'm sure it's very easy to think so when you surround yourself with likeminded individuals but I can tell you living in a conservative part of California that the demographics are not so homogenous as that.

It was clear ever since South Carolina that Trump was going to be the Republican nominee. Likewise with Hillary on the Dem side.

I don't understand how people ignore the facts so much.
You can't win 50+ 60+% in the primaries by 0 zero women voting.
It's complete nonsense.

I'm really skeptical Trump can win the general election. Anything is possible of course, Clinton could really fuck up the campaign and Trump could have some groundswell or something.

But honestly Trump reads like a laundry list of things that lost them the election last time.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/6-big-takeaways-from-the-rnc-s-incredible-2012-autopsy

Losing minority votes, the republicans coming off as too insular and inflexible, and coming off as the "rich guys."

*shrugs* He seems to be more of a problem for general electability, and he has no real solutions for these problems despite his devoted fanbase.

I've been predicting an unprecedented disaster once Election Day comes for the GOP.

he's done the minute he debates Hillary, honestly. He will likely say something VERY misinformed/stupid, Hillary will call him on it - probably cackle uncontrollably (as she tends to do XD), which will trigger him & he will go off saying something offensive to not only women everywhere but all of humanity in general.

Yet there's a lot of time for things to change. If you really don't want a Trump victory in November, you shouldn't take him lightly, even at this juncture. Basically, "don't get cocky, kid".

If rallies were a good indicater of voting then Bernie would be winning.

So... after Indiana... uh... Yeah, republicans, you wanna take up that Supreme Court Nomination yet? Or are you really gonna put everything behind a Trump win?

Obama's waiting.

The fact that Trump is this close to the presidency scares me. Even if the polls right now show him fa behind Hillary.

What if he convinces Condoleezza Rice to run as his VP?

I dunno, I'm having trouble thinking of a more pandering VP in an attempt to somehow get those votes back.

Listen, and understand! Donald Trump is out there! He can't be bargained with. He can't be reasoned with. He doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And he absolutely will not stop, ever, until America is made Great Again.

Hah. I read this in Michael Biehn's voice, and then realised its a parody quote from The Terminator.
