And so the E3 2016 Hype Begins

I can see Microsoft have more new big AAA announcements and Sony's conference having more updates on games that have already been announced.
Nah, Sony Bend, Sony Santa Monica, etc... Sony has AAA stuff in the pipeline ready to go.

I think both Sony and MS will have a good deal about previous games though.

Gears 4, Halo Wars 2, Scalebound, Crackdown 3, Recore, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Dreams, The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy 7, Shenmue 3 etc...

Every E3 and now ps conference everyone states how many studios Sony has and how they are gonna blow the conference out of the water with all the first party studio games and it still hasn't happened yet. So i don't see this conference being any different.

Huh? They had two finally show their stuff last year (Media Molecule and Guerrilla Games). I never said they'll flood the show with first party stuff. They do have enough to have roughly two new announcements though. Never mind the rumors and what not about Bend and SSM up to this point.

They could show off Kojima's game for the first time at Sony. If it's Quiet Mountains by him and Del Torro, they'd certainly have people going crazy. Crash seems to be a thing, unless all the teasing was just trolling. Bloodborne was successful and DS3 is out, so they might reveal a new Sony From collab.

It's easily possible that they aren't out of ammo yet. But even then, some release dates would be exciting enough. PS4's horizon looks crazy. I didn't like the PS360 for lacking Japanese/mid-tier support (i.e. all that being on NDS last gen), but it seems like Japan has finally reached HD and I really need some release dates for certain PS4 exclusives. Nioh, Nier 2, Ninokuni II, WiLD, TLG, FF7-1, Persona 5...

Microsoft has to update a bunch of games as well. I'm positive both will have an exciting e3 I see no reason to suggest with will lack AAA announcements

The only known quantities I'm looking forward to are Persona 5 NA details, Zelda Wii U and the next Destiny expansion.

Otherwise, I'd like a few neat surprises, and I wouldn't mind a look at whatever From has planned next, I'd be lying if I didn't want a Bloodborne 2.

They're more hungry. Plus Sony will drone on about one month exclusive CoD maps, random destiny guns blah blah etc.
Funny the same was said last year..guess what they both brought it.

Both conferences will be good. We'll get updates on games we already know about and 3rd party announcements. No doubt we'll get AAA news from both.

It'll be just like it's been in previous years. Neither MS nor Sony are lacking in announcements.

I'm interested in what MS first party will show.

Me too. But frankly, I have my doubts. I posted this in another hype thread. I wanted to lay out all of my thoughts, because I think it's a pretty startling thing to see all of the strange moves MS has made:

I'm genuinely intrigued to see what direction they'll go like. Like many, I'm predicting a continued focus towards the eventual shift to PC, where Xbox is more of a brand that exists across devices than it is a discrete piece of hardware.

There are plenty of first-party games I'm excited for, including Scalebound, Sea of Thieves, Gears 4, ReCore, Halo Wars 2, etc. But it's undeniable that they've made a lot of moves that call into question their focus on first party going forward. I think they're smart to contract out devs to do the work for them on first-party properties (second-party, if you will), but the last couple of years have been interesting:

> Closed Press Play (multiple games)
> Closed Lionhead (multiple games)
> Discontinued partnership with Twisted Pixel (bummer)
> No word from BigPark
> No word from Undead Labs (worrying)
> Cancelled Fable Legends
> Cancelled Gigantic (but it may continue)
> Delayed Scaledbound to 2017
> Cancelled/Delayed Phantom Dust
> Meaningful exclusive indies have been slow to arrive (Below, Cuphead, etc)
> ReCore has been a no-show (scale of this game is in question)
> Crackdown seems rushed, with maybe a "beta" this year

Those are just some of the moves they have made — cancelling games, delaying games, changing the scale of games, closing companies, ending partnerships. It would be nice to see some new blood. Again, the mobility that second-party development allows is undeniable, as it gives you a chance to change up if one company can't continue or can't hack it (KI comes to mind), but they need to start showing that Xbox has more than just an ecosystem. The poor attitude towards indies early on has really hurt them

I have no doubt that they'll announce some new exclusive indies and a couple of big IPs that are being contracted out to other studios, but they've really consolidated around a few tentpoles games. Even the merits of Gears and Halo are sort of questionable at this point, especially as those franchises get longer in the tooth.

I'm still bullish on MS and Xbox, and I own all platforms, so I don't have a horse in the race. But I've liked a lot of what they've done in the past (and how they've course-corrected recently), so I hope they continue to add new ideas, new blood and new experiences.

At least give it a montage treatment I mean shit it is first party.
It all frustrates me. :/

I somewhat get it but...yeah.

Yeah, this is mostly why I am interested. I want to see what direction MS is going. What are their partnerships looking like now? Stuff like that.

Microsoft conference will probably be way more interesting than Sony's.

Im expecting them both to headbutt the shit out of each other this year.

Microsoft and Sony have both been vulnerable to resting on their laurels when they are on top, I think we're seeing them hungry for the first time (and at the same time) since the sixth gen

Eh I think both are find. They'll both show games that people care about and are interested in. I have no idea what they can show though as far as surprises though. I think both will have something that caters their userbase.

You forgot Crash & Spider-Man :P

I was looking for a E3 thread, this will do.

EA still will have a show of their own, right? But have they even announced when and at what time that is?

I hope we see more of WILD during the E3 as well as Mass Effect Andromeda gameplay.
I am super excited for The Legend of Zelda this year. If Nintendo makes it its only game this year it has to be really something big!

Glad to see people bring up WILD. I really want to see more about it.

More than anything, I want to know what the new hardware is and how older titles will work on it (upscale settings etc?)

Wouldn't get my hopes up for WiLD, seems to only show itself at this Paris Gameshow thingy.

As for me, I'm hoping for some great surprises in release dates announcements for 2016 on PS4, because as of now I don't have any particular games I'm waiting for at all for the rest of the year. Mafia 3 and Dishonored 2 is a big maybe.

Honestly, I think I'm so hyped up for a new Red Dead announcement that everything else just pales in comparison. E3 without it would be a big fat disappointment for me, unless a Spidey game that isn't made by Beenox is announced.
