Stellaris |OT| Imperium Universalis

Man, from someone who is a fan of the civilization/GalCiv series and never played any of the paradox strategy games before, this sure feels a little overwhelming. Things happening all over the place and this is basically me:

It'll take some time to get used to the pace of the game.

what can I do with all my energy? I have no problems using up my minerals building stuff, but what is the energy for?
Energy is mostly something that you use for the upkeep of what you have, you don't spend what you have banked, you just keep it around for the periods where your energy balance goes into the red, and it will a lot.

Do you have any space on your planet(s) to build power plants?

Mmh. I just have a 3 frontier outpost systems, full fleet (I really needed it due to certain events.. Spent several hundred minerals to build it too) and only just colonized my first planet after homeworld. I'll solve it somehow.

Next step after power is better warships so I don't outright die soon..

LOL. Just remember that you can Pause with the Spacebar at any time, as well as speed up and slow down time with the Plus & Minus keys.

Take your time. Pausing the game doesn't freeze it. You can pause time, scope out your systems, read stats, issue orders, etc. It's incredibly flexible.

This isn't like Starcraft where indecision can overwhelm and sink you. It's RTWP.

Anyone that can tell me how to merge several ships into one "unit"? Split up a starting unit with 3 ships, and now I can't merge them back together

Consider Solar panels if they pop up in research, I think they can be added to stations to reduce their power draw.

nah

3 hours flew by playing this

That's why then. No Ironman, no achievements.

Made my 'rich people now literally (contractually, at least) own the planet' faction, the ATM.

"The ATM belongs to You. You belong to the ATM."

I haven't experienced any stuttering yet, when is it happening? I get a slight pause when it autosaves, but that's all.

Every. Single. Day. haha, it's brutal. I don't mind the autosave, playing ironman mode so I get that every month regardless of the frequency selected in settings. But this one or two second delay every tick is really testing my patience. Paradox said they've sorted out the issue but need to put the patch through QA. They stated on the forums that it will probably be released tomorrow now but mentioned a beta patch.. really really hope that comes out tonight.

Installed the game, ready to play!
Where can I find the Digital OST I got from the Nova Edition on Steam?

Either by the Steam music player or in the folder. There is both .flac and .mp3 folders under the soundtrack folder to be used in the player of your choosing.

After spending the time to m ake that list of GAF names for characters in game, I'm considering doing one for ships using some of the British ship names. Can someone just confirm for me that you can put in a custom set of names for ships too? I'm away from home so can't play till Thursday.

weird, what is ironman mode?

No backsies. You play, it saves, you can't go back and reload because you dun goofed.

Is there some kind of notification log where I can reread a notification I got from an event? I got one saying some people of my planet became pirates and now terrorize civilian ships, but I don't see them anywhere on the map.

*edit* Ok, I found them in a neighboring system. Seems like they don't show up until you find them yourself.

To confirm, no way to export your custom aliens across multiplayer, right? It would be nice to have the GAF civs out there without having to go through workshop.

It's funny, I've been playing 4X games Ironman for so long that I don't even think of not doing so as an option anymore.
With the exception of when I'm just starting out, I need to play in Ironman. Otherwise, I become too tempted to go back when little "mistakes" happen and I'll never finish a game.

The only thing that kills Ironman for me in most games is the constant micro-stutters when saving in the background.

It shouldn't bother me and I really dig what Ironman represents from a gameplay perspective. But man, those save pauses just get under my skin for some reason.

Yeah, I've never actually played any game in Ironman, but a 4x game seems like one that might not bite you quite as hard in the arse for doing so.

Like Xcom can be brutal by just making one wrong click. I can't see Stellaris being the same unless that click is "Rival this Fallen empire" or something lol.

Oh man, slavery gives a fuckton of minerals for no discernible downside.

If you're a heartless monster entirely divorced of empathy and conscious, sure.

I don't know if it will be a problem, but I hope there is some systemic downside to slavery that maybe isn't immediately obvious. Relying entirely on player morality is kind of meh as a balancing mechanism, imo. Will see how it pans out though. Too early to call.

I only ever play EU IV Ironman. It just makes it so much better.

make spacebar your new best friend

but really the game should not have been real-time to begin with.

RTS needs to have everything controllable & visible on the map, not in submenus of subtabs of subscreens

Pause is your friend. There's no shame in using it liberally.

One more minute and then I should have the game installed, just enough time to create a custom nation before having to hit the sack for work tomorrow. Tomorrow can better go fast...

I somewhat regret picking a Spiral galaxy. I'm stuck on an arm with no way to get out and explore more. If I wanna go any further in either direction I either have to explore a hell of a lot more or blowup someone for their stuff.

Five hours later I started a war, which went well until it somehow suddenly didn't and I lost one of my planets when I had to cede instead of turning my opponent into a vassel. But oh well, I have since colonized 4 more planets once I was finally able to colonize desert planets aside from my own type.

Needless to say, fun was had.
