Stellaris |OT| Imperium Universalis

I don't know if it will be a problem, but I hope there is some systemic downside to slavery that maybe isn't immediately obvious. Relying entirely on player morality is kind of meh as a balancing mechanism, imo. Will see how it pans out though. Too early to call.

Eventually there will be revolts by your slaves as the balancing mechanism. Unfortunately, they had to disable slave revolutions for launch as they weren't happy with the balance of the system. Right now, slavery is definitely OP.

This is me right now:

God damn this soundtrack is glorious! Sublime! It's like a lovely more up to date Vangelis, mixed with more cool stuff. Glad I grabbed the Galaxy edition with soundtrack!

In love with the game already too. It's got that homely oh so playable and relaxing Civ V feeling to it, with all the expanded gameplay mechanics and mysteries I've craved. Also it isn't too overwhelming to step into this far thanks to 4X knowledge.

Damn good job Paradox

Oh man!!!!

I met this dick cat people next to me on one side. Above both of us were some really nice bird people.

Me and Cat People ended up as Rivals.. and they rivaled the Bird people.

So Bird People and I allied together. He declared war and we fucked Cat People's shit up.

But the cool part was part of the war demands was that the big planet had to be ceded to Bird People. So they took it. And we liberated the small colony of Cat People.

So the Alliance of Whatever-Dick-Cat people became a small colony of Nice-Cat-People-League and they joined our alliance. They took the govt, ethics, etc from my ally so we are all 3 friends now. Xenophiles unite!

Good kitties. Good kitties.

Vangelis struck me the moment i heard the track so fucking good.

I have no idea what i am doing having full tutorial on..it will be ok i guess.

Yup, pretty much. Playing with a friend through Skype on our own separate worlds. Pretty epic so far but I think my game is plagued with the day passing stutter bug...

I'm kinda clueless and feel really harassed since I'm compeltely surrounded right now and cannot colonize further.

I just had a scientist spend 2 years of his life trying to figure out why there was a ceramic pot orbiting a sun.

There was no answer.

Man, from someone who is a fan of the civilization/GalCiv series and never played any of the paradox strategy games before, this sure feels a little overwhelming. Things happening all over the place and this is basically me:

It'll take some time to get used to the pace of the game.

Spacebar - all day, every day. It will make the game much more relaxing to play, and you can really take things in.

Edit - also, keep going back to the situation log whenever the tutorial bot asks you to do stuff. You'll find more detailed info on exactly what to do and why.

Turned my science ship from auto-flee to passive. I was collecting loot after my fleet was killing shit....

Forgot to turn it off.

Just lot my 5-star surveyor scientist. :\

yay ironman

I love my spacebar i read everything i see from the tutorial robot he is pretty handy.

The music alone man goddamn just listening to it now with the game borderless window on the background fuuuu so fucking good!

How do I upgrade my corvettes? I have a new ship design with upgraded lasers but can't upgrade the basic model corvettes, says no upgrade available.

Good kitties. Good kitties.

So apparently you can repair at allies spacesports. So I have been using colony of Reformed-Good-Kitties as my repair station before jumping off to fight another group we are waging war against. Nice having a buffer. Everyone needs a buffer.

Well so much for the AI not declaring war. On a normal game one of the empires near me has just declared war with a 380 strength fleet, i.e. 6 times anything I can put out right now.

For your interest you can access the Stellaris wiki and paradox forums in game by opening the in game browser opened with the h key. The wiki is not complete yet, but it already contains a lot of information.

OST is pretty rad, props. I love the cultural specific music in previous Paradox games. I hope you guys branch out from human slanted space majesty (which I love, don't get me wrong) to stuff like... what would the music from ugly-ass bug-ass aliens sound like.

I gotta know what music played over recordings of the first mushroom person launched into space sounds like.

Good to know, thanks!

The warning of a hostile enemy being detected, and having your ship run away to the next system is the bane of my fanatical pacifist civilizations growth.

How annoying is the wormhole bug I've seen mentioned? Should I put off using wormholes for a second playthrough?

I've seen it in Quills game, but it was an issue in systems where he had previously startyed building wormhole gates in allied territory, and then left the federation. I think the construction ships were booted out before construction completed, but I can't be sure. Outside of that he didn't have any problem as far as I can see.

How do I upgrade my corvettes? I have a new ship design with upgraded lasers but can't upgrade the basic model corvettes, says no upgrade available.

You have to redesign the ship and then you can tell the fleet to upgrade.

If you can't upgrade the fleet you have then maybe there are not of the same ship class as your new design, even if they use the same hull type.

So the original design is the Bathurst Corvette for example, and you made a NEW design called the Starkiller but still using the Corvette hull. Any Bathurst class ships you have won't upgrade to the Starkiller, you need to redesign the Bathurst class and then you can upgrade them.

It means you can have multiple different ship configs in the same ship hull and in the same fleet.

So say Bathurst class Corvettes are good for point defence, while Starkiller class Corvettes are good at DPS.

At least, that's what I think. I can't play right now :(

Switch their mode to passive. They won't flee right away anymore. Just be sure they aren't actually attacked.

I vassalized my neighbor but that doesnt seem to give me any more influence?
is there a way to crush him and just take his territory? I know I can do that after 10 years of having him as a vassal but I'd like more territory for myself

I noticed that destroying his outposts at least gives me some influence first

Let me tell y'all a tale. I started wedged between two empires, right beside The Forbidden Nebula due to the Galactic Northeast. Skipped colonisation tech because, obviously, it'll come up next time, right? Wrong.

Spent the next decade fortifying my one planet and cataloguing the galaxy in anticipation of my expansion. Discovered things, many things, that I can only hope I claim. The one saving grace is that I have a natural expansion to the Galactic South, with some planets and research, so it'll be OK. Meanwhile my fellow empires outpace me in military, with one peaceful and one warlike, and colonies that can only be imminent at this point.

And then things get interesting. I discover a strategic resource right inside the Forbidden Nebula, disturbingly close to the warlike empire. So I decide it's time to expand, colonisation or no. And right as I'm constructing the frontier outpost, a research ship recovers a derelict spacecraft. It's a friggin' frigate with no name and it is stronger than my standing fleet (of four corvettes). And now it's mine. Things just got interesting...

Kinda spoilery, but behold New Ship in all its glory. The Dark Wanderer has arrived.

goty

Awww... The only free ships I found were 3 corvettes that were marginally stronger than my fleet.

I mean, it effectively doubled my millitary strength, so I'm not complaining.

I wonder if I can trick my enemies into war-ing with one another so I can finish off the scraps

Nice!

I remember in one of Quills episodes he discovered a ship deep in a gas giant. Did the research and it was a Cruiser that got added to his fleet! All he had were Destroyers at the time too.

I gotta know what music played over recordings of the first mushroom person launched into space sounds like.

Speaking of cultural music in space games, while not quite the same, another favourite soundtrack this year is in Homeworld - Deserts of Kharak. They've done a wonderful take on what the Kharak music should sound like, mixing all kinds of middle eastern and south Asian instrumentation with the synth aspects you come to expect for that authentic Homeworld sound with a mix of something new for the races. Fits great with the Bedouin aesthetics in places too.

One of my fleets I'm not using has a nice green icon saying it's orbiting a star.

The other two that are doing nothing have the red 'zzz' icon. I think the first is not using as much energy for support (sure I read this somewhere). Any idea how to 'park' the others into the same mode? I can't seem to find an Icon for it.
