X-Men Apocalypse Review Thread

It's fucking bullshit, though. Mendelson's review is reaching like a motherfucker as well.

This film's elevator stops at a basement that is still about 40 floors up from the filmmaking acumen Snyder displayed on Batman v Superman. To say it's almost as bad tells me maybe someone has some unique reasoning as to why Batman v. Superman failed them that I'm not privy to, because there's no comparison to be made between what Singer did on this film, even in its worst moments, to what Snyder did with that one.

Does this mean BvS is gonna be the new hyperbolic benchmark when reviewing how bad a new superhero movie is?

And here I thought that honor would go to Fant4stic.

Last Stand is a worse movie than Origins and it does vastly more harm to the franchise

at least Origins gave us a Deadpool joke in the new film. Last Stand straight up HAD to get a retcon and prompt an entire change in freaking timeline and setting

Last Stand had an awesome score and that Wolverine rubble climax.

Though I enjoyed Origins as shlock so *shrug*

Nah, The Spirit is still the worst superhero movie ever made, and by a considerable margin.

It's depressing that Batman v. Superman even got as close as it did, absolutely, but it's not the bottom of the barrel. Frank Miller's got that all to himself.

Miller for the X-Men movies, please. Been disappointed now that the game has been raised and people aren't scarred to make comic book movies look like comic books.

what's good about The Last Stand?

like one good thing

the only thing that comes to mind is Gramer as Beast
The Magneto speech and him tearing apart the bridge scene is dope. Soundtrack is alright too.

Now you name one good thing about X Men Origins that isn't a joke about how bad the movie is.

Yep, Beast was the only thing I remember liking about Last Stand. It's a bad film from start to finish. Like that cheap-o Sentinel fakeout. Where not only is it a simulation, but Wolverine destroys it off screen.

Grammer Beast goes without saying. I thought Kitty was good in Last Stand, but I don't really remember much other than my gf liked it the most because it was the shortest of these movies I put her through.

I'll just watch Civil War again and this in a plane someday.

Good until she and 3 over underpowered mutants take on hoards of the most powerful mutants including phoenix by themselves.

Surprising. Singer's X-Men has been good but it seems he may have misfired. I don't see how his this can be worse than Rattner's failure tho.

I liked it.

There's more "X-Men!" moments in this X-Men movie than there's probably been in all the previous mainline X-Men movies combined.
I'm happy to hear that.

The way Cap won. Amazing how A-List actor Chris Evans ended up with the best comic book trilogy of all time. TALENT always wins.

X-men Apocalypse is garbage.
The Dark Knight Rises was trash.
Even Return of the Jedi was horrible compared to the 2 previous SW films.

None of them seem to know how to end a trilogy on a good note. I'm horrified @ what Apocalypse will do to Oscar Isaac's careers since he's one of my faves.

Yet the Captain America trilogy ended on the STRONGEST note on equal footing with Winter Soldier.

Critical acclaim? Check.
Incredible lead actors? Check.
Insane box office numbers? Check.

Best trilogy since Lord of the Rings.

LMAOOOOOO the way everyone underestimated Cap and yet now everyone's eating his dust including all the X-men.

Take this back to /tv/

Looking at release dates for superhero movies, I think it's going to be consistently good movies (Suicide Squad, Doctor Strange, The LEGO Batman Movie, Untitled Wolverine Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) until Zack Synder influenced Wonder Woman shows up.

the opening montage is fucking great

...

uh yeah

but that puts it above alone, for me, tbh

Last Stand gets extra shit points for being a sequel to the best of them, obviously
lol that montage presented several ideas for a Wolverine movie and all we got was Silver Fox and a really bad, out-of-continuity (even before DoFP) Xavier cameo

I'm not sure if Captain America is the #1 trilogy of films. Top 10, certainly, but not the best.

Wolverine solo movies haven't proven themselves worthy of that confidence.

What a world where a Deadpool movie not only exists and is good, but is actually better than a Batman vs. Superman movie and an X-Men movie featuring Apocalypse.

...actually, now that I type that out, it doesn't sound all that surprising. :lol

But yet the Zack Snyder influenced SS will be good?

I kind of saw this coming based on the previews...

Maybe its the whole apocalypse theme?

Its just to crazy for them to have any hope of grounding the story in anything but the same old tropes

I wonder if we should be worried that Infinity War could fail in similar fashion

Captain America doesn't have a trilogy. There are 3 films with his name on them, but you have to watch both Avengers films to fill in a lot of the blanks.

Hopefully this is Singers last stand. Time to give the franchise to someone who can do X-Men real justice, that actually feels like a real X-Men film, this franchise should be doing billion at the box office. Meanwhile Deadpool just did more than any of the X-Men films. lol

I bet if Michael Bay directed XMen it would make a Billion easy
