Pokémon Sun and Moon Starters Revealed. Releases November 18th 2016.

So it's definitely going to be circus thing. We have I feel hopefully have a musical horn and a tiger and then a badass ringmaster

I'm expecting this as well (I bet Rowlet is gonna end up looking straight out of Bloodnorne), but unfortunately that'll attract the "gentlemen" crowd I think :(

Man you guys have the worst taste.

Yeah, I was thinking the island they showed looked too small after I took a better look at it. The paved street looks like it's one big city, the starting town is up near the waterfalls RagnarokX pointed out, and maybe one more town past the street, behind the mountains near the starting town. Great find!

Anyway, I like all these starters, especially after looking at their animations and other art. Really shows them off as characters, as others in this thread have said. Not sure who I'll pick.

Blackout starts now lol

Yeah, the starting town is right here:

It's a town of huts, has a clearing with a wooden arena where you are given the pokemon, Sacred Falls is in the background, the two trees on the sides of the entrance to Sacred Falls.

So Rowlet becomes a ringleader (the bowtie motif), Litten becomes a circus tiger, and Popplio becomes a clown seal?

THE CIRCUS TRIO!

The owl looks okay, but only if they changed the upper beak color.

The other two look terrible.

The trainers look kind of boring, the girl's hat is weird, the customization doesn't look expansive enough and I preferred the chibi proportions for the humans.

  1. Squirtle.
  2. Cyndaquil
  3. Torchic (my all time favorite starter)
  4. Chimchar (my favorite starters, regretted picking Chimchar and ended up using all three)
  5. Oshawott*
  6. Froakie
*Yet to actually play them.

The difference between the actual starters and fakemon are the real ones all have a clear motif. Especially Popplio with the the clown neck-thing and the clown nose which also doubles as looking like a seal balancing a ball on its nose.
I kinda see it now, round pink noses are common cartoon dog noses though. Still doesn't make it interesting but I guess the motif will tie it with its evolutions.

The teeth are creepy.

Man you guys have the worst taste.

Tepig was actually a nice starter design wise... until I saw his evolutions! Than I cried!
I liked Gen VII starters more already. But I really hope it doesn't turn in a Tepig / Chespin / Fennekin thing again (nice 1st form, and pretty bad final evolutions).

Litten also doubles as the fire breather/swallower.
That'd be cool!

I think all three starters are adorable. This + Hawaii setting (getting some nice Mario Sunshine vibes here!) makes me happy.

Also love the sun legendary. The moon one looks cool, too, but I need a better look at it to wrap my head around its concept.

If I had to choose, right here right now, I'd probably pick the water seal and sun legendary for MAXIMUM HAWAIIAN-NESS!

EDIT: Although Hawaii is known for its stray cat population, so maybe Litten is the more optimal Hawaii rep.

I like the starters, especially the owl, it's totally adorbs and I can't wait to get a plushie of it.

The legendaries are probably the worst box legendary duo, sooo uninspired and overdesigned. It's dissapointing because Zekrom/Reshiram and Xerneas/Yvetal were great.

The playable character are really bland and I also don't care about the professor and mom. The rival look nice.

Yokai Watch 3 will look better tho ;)

Litten's evo is going to one of those hairless cats. Lost its hair to overgrooming.

Think how Greninja did away with the foam of its pre-evos.

Eww, Zekrom and Reshiram were so bad that I completely skipped Gen V for that reason alone.

Might as well join the list trend:

I: Charmander
II: Totodile (originally Cyndaquil)
III: Treecko (originally Mudkip)
IV: Chimchar
V: Snivy
VI: Fennekin
VII: Rowlet or Popplio

My hope here is that the Rowlet train starts picking up major steam and it has this dope as fuck final form.
Then Nintendo and the Pokemon company are like "we can make mad bank off this mon"
Next thing you know final form Owl is in Smash NX, in Pokken 2, has oodles of merchandise and an amiibo to join my Blathers and Celeste.

One thing that I don't think has been brought up is that the grass and water starters look like babies. Like they were just born and couldn't take a hit. Almost all the other starters from other gens just look small and not powerful, but still "mature" in a sense. Anyone else feel this way?

Starters are all pretty neat. I know better than to trust my gut reaction of "they ugly, pokemon is ruined!" because even the worst starters eventually settle into becoming familiar faces, it's just how they're designed.

There's stuff I'm pretty sure I won't like about the new games, but that's mostly down to the 3DS's limitations, so I won't complain.

...at least until the games come out and snorlax is still animated as standing upright in battle.

Yep, it makes me appreciate the concept/design a little more. Plus, it might help in guessing future evolutions, design-wise or typing wise. Sulfur might make sense for a Rock dual typing, but it could also just be a design choice.

Better picture exhibiting this:

I still think the description talking about oils in its skin is hinting at a part-poison typing, Sulphur is pretty poisonous too!

I'm usually a pretty harsh critic toward modern Pokemon designs but I don't mind the three starters. It's all about the evolutions. As long as those aren't screwed up.

At least people cared about them when the boxart was revealed. Nobody cares about SunLion and MoonBat.
No, people only cared about them because everyone was making fun of them. The new cover legendaries are being overshadowed by the starters because the starters are amazing and have names, but people like the new legendaries quite a bit.

- And to think this one day will be playable at a decent resolution via emulation, I'm dying to see the resulting IQ.
- I was more leaning toward the Owl at first but Litten really grew on me.
- So many Pokemon titles to catch up on, ugh... (I have Platinum to play but it doesn't really appeal to me). My sane part want to skip to more recent ones but my OCD is not pleased by the prospect.

It's somewhat interesting that what may be the largest city in the game is so close to the starting village.

Even if you're forced to go counter clockwise around the island starting from the village, it still seems as though the first gym you encounter is in that city.

Reshiram is one of the most popular Gen V Pokemon. Are you getting confused with Black and White Kyurem? because that's how the SM legendaries look like.

I was excited about the lion when I heard about "Solagaleo" because I love lions and I expected better, it's face looks like a open umbrella.

Think how Greninja did away with the foam of its pre-evos.

It'll have a ring of hair around its waist it can set on fire so it looks like it's jumping through it.

That or a flaming ring-tail
