Pokémon Sun and Moon Starters Revealed. Releases November 18th 2016.

I haven't played a Pokemon game in an incredibly long time. What have I missed? I mean, they're designed to be accessible for young kids so it can't be that hard to jump in at a random point.

Also, those graphics are really good for OG 3DS specs.

Eleventh is the best!

I know, thanks.

I know, thanks.

How long exactly? You missed Mega Evolutions, customization, more Pokemon, and probably more (those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head).

I'm talking about the 4 trainers before the champion match. Even with 6 pokemon Diantha was meh. For me the whole Elite4/Champion in XY was a mess.

Yeah, they all have four Pokemon and Diantha (and the E4 in general) wasn't too hard.

I thought the change came around in DP though? Like it was how the whole Old Gateau localization idea. I remember reading it from an interview posted in /vp/ and SA I think.

i definitely remember him answering questions on SA circa 2007-2008 or so and i think he said they moved translation in house during that time period (it's been close to a decade so fuck if i remember though)

So you like X/Y, that's cool

never actually beat xy, ended up losing steam in victory road of all places. should have just seen it through but eh.

in terms of main game experience that game has much bigger sins than rivals, though - serena was okay (and apparently ends up with a full team on an endgame rematch) but i didn't really need the motley crew of friends.

Like, 1999 long. 151 Pokemon, awful N*SYNC, Mariah Carey, and similar songs in the otherwise great first movie, and the like

But the games are designed to be accessible for young children too, so it must be easy to hop in at any random gen.

Nah, I played the hacked Blaze Black 2. So I guess I'll have to check wahtever this GTS is. I couldn't just go online and trade a random for it with another player?

That's exactly what GTS is. If you wanted one right away I'm sure someone in the OT would gladly trade you a level 1 Drowzee as soon as you start.

Yep. You can pretty much jump in at any gen. There's not too much that's changed (in terms of story progression/gameplay) but you missed some pretty big changes. There are more types, a split between physical/special moves, more Pokemon, and Megaevolutions. Those are the ones that I can think of that affect gameplay.

Sometime this thread reminds me of that :lol

Going for the good old fire starter except if its third evolution sucked like in X/Y. Love cats! Just saw the trailer and it looks linear as hell again. I miss the exploration part in the newer Pokemon games. :( Looks like there is only one road to the destination again. Guess this is gonna be more of the same. Not gonna expect any big changes.

What's the opinions on the legendaries? Both look cool as fuck imo. I honestly think Sun looks better
(tougher)
but I'll probably go with Moon because it looks pretty unique and I've always gone for the blue Pokemon games.
I don't like either of them.

I'll probably pick Moon for the same reason.

Hawaii has lots of resorts. And the big island, Hawaii, is pretty plain. It has a big volcano on it though.

Obviously.

You're not getting my point. I'm saying that the blue resort with the Horsea fountain doesn't match any of the buildings on the map. This proves that there more islands/places than what we've been shown.

We still doing these?

Gen I: Squirtle (Best Starter ofc)

Gen II: Totodile

Gen III: Treecko

Gen IV: Piplup

Gen V: Snivy

Gen VI: Froakie

Gen VII: Litten*

*Leaning towards Litten, though I need to see the evos before passing final judgement, if the final evo is bipedal or Fire / Fighting, I'm out.

I've picked grass for every generation starter except for Piplup. Definitely going Rowlet this time, but I'll be spamming wonder trade asap to get a Litten too. Who can pass up on a fire tiger?
I thought it was a play on the word roll, but I don't know. Could also be Round Owl.
That sounds about right.

We only saw a really small portion of what is presumably the first locations/island. There could be plenty of exploration in the game, especially once you're able to Surf.

Opinions:
- Grass starter looks derpy but has cool animations. Nice typing too.
- Fire starter looks cool and has potential. I expect it to evolve into some lame bipedal thing though.
- Water one looks derpy and cute. My favourite one.

Moon legendary looks awesome. Sun one less so.

Thanks, sounds like the series added more RPG elements as time went on, which is good. I heard Pikachu lost a lot of weight too.

The massive world in the games really intrigues me, based on Hawaii to boot. Bit of a shame there probably won't be New 3DS enhancements or full 3D. Doesn't seem to be any info about that far so I kind of think Game Freak aren't bothering.

People really don't like Fire/Fighting huh? I like Blaziken.

Of course. The concept are shows places we didn't see in this trailer. I'm expecting to go to atleast 3 of Hawaiis islands.

I'm also thinking Red (Ash) will be in this game since in the concept art there was a red character that looked like him.

You always think it can't get worse...those three starters are horrible looking, awful. I do think at least the starters have been well designed...that fire cat made me shake my head

wonder if one of the starter evolutions will end up a smash character.

Im warming up to everything, and even switching back to Moon, Lunaala is actually pretty cool.

Im realizing one thing hasnt changed about Pokemon since 1998. You need Ken Sugimori as a reference for everything in the games to really "get it" lol

Keep rewatching the trailer, its hype. I feel like something taking away from the shock is that we've seen these trainer models before so its not totally new. But this is still a big deal. If this is that huge region the backpacker was talking about its gonna be great. If its Morimotos first go at directing a new gen we can probably expect it to be very content heavy

Bauz will be my first grass starter ever. The design is not amazing but it's the best of the three. Also going Sun, no question about that.

Oh yeah just a nice hint, when Japanese draw tigers they tend to have forehead marks

specifically they are meant to evoke the "king" kanji (王)

Makes you wonder if Litten will have that thing in its future evolutions, as it already dons a marking similar to that.

Ah that clears it up, thanks!

The legendaries are alright, but not as visually captivating as Reshiram/Zekrom or even Xerneas/Yveltal.

Perhaps when more of the lore gets unveiled then I'll like them more.

I think the legendaries and starters look cool as a new foreign stop in the series. Curious to see what the Alola lore has to say about them

Oh yeah, I talked a bit about Torterra in a previous post and our new region is island based so that reminds me. Anyone want to hear about my never going to happen Pokemon region wish?

A giant, ancient, dormant Torterra. I'm talking absolutely colossal here. Don't make it too obvious but throw some hints around, geographic wise but also maybe by having the region suffer from some unexplained natural phenomena. Then of course, near the end the Pokemon awakes.

I don't know, I just feel like it'd make for a really memorable region. It's only based on the HeartGold / SoulSilver Pokedex entry:

Ancient people imagined that beneath the ground, a gigantic Torterra dwelled.

Which is of course a reference to the World Turtle myths, but I'd like to imagine it a bit smaller than that. Just a bit.

Yeah I can totally see it becoming a Bengal Tiger as it gets bigger.
