Where do cyndaquil and fennekin's evolution lines fit into the Chinese Zodiac?

The argument for those is that cyndaquil is a mouse (at least according to the english pokedex) and fennekin is a fox, which was considered a type of canine by the chinese back when they made the chinese zodiacs (at least this is what I've heard in this thread). Kinda weak arguments, but for the rest of the fire starters to fit in is a bit more than a coincidence.

Never really cared much about that tho. Blaziken and Infernape were great designs. Can't say much for Emboar though
I liked the Chinese motif that Emboar had going on. Underrated final evolution, IMO.

Piplup and Turtwig turned into monstrosities on the other hand. Empoleon is the most disappointing evo ever, quite possibly because Piplup was so amazing

Could be roll or round. Could also be a shortening of grow, as it's a grass type.

I feel like it has to have something to with the fact that it's part grass. Apparently the only native owl to Hawaii builds its nests in the grass/on the ground, but I don't know if I'm headed down the wrong path. Can't come up with any 'r' things to match up with it.

Hm. Dunno if its the symbol for sulfur, feels a bit of a stretch, but could be...

This is what im leaning on. That and the Oil thing on it's fur.

The thing is that the alchemist symbol for Sulfur (also called brimstone) is also known as the Leviathan cross which is the demonic version of the holy Christian cross.

So I mean Litten can go either way, actually would it be too much of a stretch to assume Litten could potentially be a Fire/Dark/Poison type?

I'm not feeling Litten or Sun Lion as much because we have enough cats/lions, but all 5 Pokémon revealed today look great! It's ultimately contingent on evolutions, but Rowlet looks adorable, so I'll probably take him.

The Moon Bat's dope, too. I think it has me sold on getting Moon. And also naming it "Night Man."

"You should really check out my region! There's this facility you wouldn't believe. Ah nevermind, you'll see it in due time." - NPC from X/Y

Guess we'll get that facility in this game. Pls be amazing battle frontier like area post-game. Still sad that ORAS didnt have the Battle Frontier, it was the thing I was most excited for.

Yeah, Battle Frontier was the crown jewel of Hoenn; Delta Episode was nice and all, but there's no replacing the Battle Frontier.

Also, IIRC, the Strange Souvenir was a Tiki-like figure, right? I should've picked up on Gen 7 being in Hawaii years ago. But oh well. Besides, I love Tikis, so having a legendary Tiki should be incredible!

Battle Resort in ORAS did say the Frontier was under construction. That combined with the facility quote in XY sounds like some real teasing to me.

(also scott wore a hawaiian shirt. sinnoh confirmed)

I just don't think these starters look good together aesthetically. Pokemon definitely dropped the ball design-wise around Gen 4/5, but the starters have always looked like an amazing power trio.

These starters look mismatched as hell. The owl looks like Route 1 trash and the cat looks like yet another Purrloin, Skitty, Meowth, and Glameow. The only starter that actually looks like a starter is the water-type seal. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that all three of these starters were designed by a different person.

The grass type starter looks straight outta Hoenn. The fire type starter looks like your typical overdesigned Unova fodder, and the water starter looks like your classic Gen 1/2 starter.

I agree with this

I wouldn't mind this...

Never gonna happen, too similar. Fairy type also makes no sense

They don't look well together because you saw them together for the first time today. Also the otter doesn't look anything like the first two gens, if anything is say its closest in style to gen 4.

I'm reading an article about animals found in Hawaii. Natives being Monk Seal and Bat which Popplio and Lunalaa are respectively based on. But among other creatures living on the island one of the most prominent is the mongoose which was brought to kill rats on the island. Do I sense the potential of bringing back this guy and making it cannon:

I don't know.. Fairy makes a ton of sense for Popplio. When I first saw him my first impression of a potential second typing was Fairy.

Gen IV and on shit on the previous three gens design wise. Try again.

I've seen plenty of great fanart of the Alola starters as a group already, and it hasn't even been a day. Also, Rowlet is amazing

I love to read the random negative comments about new starters or new Pokémon each gen. You people are so creative when it comes to shit on them. Please continue. These Pokémon was better better, when I was young and innocent are really fun thread.

Look at the XY thread and look at this one. The reception to the starters is polarizing here and extremely positive for the XY thread. These probably aren't the best designs, but they still do the job and won't mean anything in the long run.

I'm struggling to envision the starters final evolutions. the Seal obviously will look nothing like Samurott but a clown version of that is what I'd imagine from the first form.

Litten to become bipedal fire/fighting

Rowley I'm confused as we've never had a actual flying starter. I can't fathom an avian flying form for its final.
