Pokémon Sun and Moon Starters Revealed. Releases November 18th 2016.

This thread reads like Pokemon Festivus. In particular, the Airing of Grievances...

*Frank Costanza bolts upright at the table and points accusingly at Blastoise*

"I got a lot of problems with you, Blastoise!"

Don't expect any eeveelutions this gen, it's typically only even numbered generations we get them:

Gen 2: Espeon and Umbreon
Gen 3: Nothing
Gen 4: Leafeon and Glaceon
Gen 5: Nothing
Gen 6: Sylveon

Of course they could break the pattern but seeing as in Gen 6 we only got one Eeveelution rather than the usual pair - and even then was probably only to promote the brand new Fairy Type - I wouldn't bank on it.

I think they're going to have 1 eevee evolution each gen now.

Whats interesting about previous generations is that the evolution came in sets with one having a type advantage over the other.

So we might be getting a Poison type Eevee, but Fighting and Dragon is is a possibility as well. Especially since Dragon only weaknesses is Ice, Fairy and Dragon. Since Ice is used and it's already Dragon typing it seems like the only possible time to have it paired up with another Eeevee.

(Unless they break the pattern completely.)

The new starters definitely look terrible this gen. I doubt the evolutions look any better, Interested in what others look like but yeah man these starters lol. The owl is the only decent looking but thats not saying much.

Make the right choice.

The other pattern is that all current Eeveelutions are based on 'Special' types, back when the earlier generations had physical and special assigned to types that is.
And with that being the case, Dragon is the only type left from that group that hasn't got an Eeveelution, and like you pointed out, compliments Sylveon with Fairy and Dragon having a pre-existing relationship.

I think with Eeveelutions being so popular they'd be crazy not to take advantage of that - just for the merchandise aspect alone - but this is GameFreak and they're not exactly predictable these days.

I think this nails why I dislike Popplio completely, his style is way too old timey cartoony and feels like a step backwards in terms of design. I REALLY HOPE he gets an amazing evolution.

Pretty much. He feels more gimmicky than any starter I can recall.

I made a chart a long time ago that revolved around merging Rock and Ground into a singular Earth and introducing Sound as a type to clear up some of the clutter in Normal and Electric, as well as balancing the types a bit more (esp. Ice defensively):

Sound isn't really just "normal" though. There's even a bug type move that is considered sound. And it's not like gamefreak doesn't know - the game considers sound as an attribute now, and sound-attributed moves bypass defensive barriers and substitutes.

That's because we like the first forms. I really hope they don't pull a gen 5 & 6 and make the starters awful when they evolve.

But that mindset is a flaw in all "guessing the final form" since we've shown time and time again that the final forms aren't just "bigger first forms". Even Gen 1 mons don't have that problem.

And I think it's not "the final evolution is awful" as much as "they don't resemble the first form". And I like that - that's how it is in real life.

Really though? Litten could easily be placed in the 1930's/1940's as well with its design.

Looks fantastic. I have no desire to play more Pokemon right now, but they sure have made some impressive visual improvements.

Late retort to the Chesnaught discussion, but I can agree at least that the shiny colors are 10000000000x better than the default ones.

But the fact (opinion) stands that the design is great, and it really encapsulates the idea of a shield hedgehog.

A turtle growing artificial human weapons out of nowhere is far from fine. Only reason he gets a break is because he's a Gen 1 darling. Blastoise has been bad since 1996.

A turtle with cannons is still awesome af though. What kid never wanted to partner with a turtle that can blast water from its cannons to dish out heavy damage?

Ice is supposed to be more offensive based though. Ice pokemon even usually have bad defense stats with a few exceptions. Makes sense because ice is a fragile thing. I like the idea of each type have a ole like that, with some exceptions to their role of course. Like rock-types having a lot of defense.

Random thoughts but what kind of Pokemon do people want in these games. All new ones like in Gen 1 and 5, mostly new ones with old ones intermixed like in Gen 3, or more like the gen 6 approach? I kinda liked gen 6s approach but I'd want at least 100 pokemon this go around.

The problem with ice being offensive is that any Pokémon that learns an ice move but isn't ice, makes out well. But ice type pokemon get screwed. Aside from getting stab as a plus, there's no other benefit. Ice deserves at least one other resistance, if not two.

I'm okay with another BW2-like approach with a really rich variety, and i would be okay with less new pokemon

Mostly new ones like gen 3. I really didn't like the overabundance of old mons before facing the E4 in X/Y.

Honestly, I was okay with a straight up reboot. Were up there national dex wise almost to a 1000 and unless we get a grand game with every Mon available in multiple regions, that's just too much to cope with.

Plus out of 800+ Mon, like 35% of the are straight up garbage tier waste... Utterly pointless for battle or anything else.

I'm perfectly fine with the same amount of Gen 6 additions esp if all of them are quality.

I'm hoping for more new evolutions for old Pokémon than I am for actual new Pokémon. Hell I hope GameFreak goes back and re adjust old Pokémon stats that would allow alot more of the older Pokémon to become more viable competitively. I'm the kind of person who believes in taking what you have and make the best of it before expanding or moving on the newer things (Pokémon).

GameFreak brought back the one thing I wanted most for the new Gen and that's character customization. If we get a decent to good if not great story on top of the already confirmed improved Graphics and gameplay I'll be a happy trainer.

They did that already...

As someone who likes to catch and train new Pokémon each time I'd like the BW method of only having those in the wild until you best the E4.

Yeah... if they did it the way I thought of when I typed that post the competitive scene would be more diverse.

I know they went back and added new abilities and 10 or 20 points to some Pokémon base stats but it wasn't enough.

I think GameFreak needs to go back to each Pokémon individual evolution line and re adjust them with increase stats or new abilities if not both that makes sense for that particular Pokémon line.

I liked X/Y's approach because I was able to train 20+ pokemon at once along with the experience share when I was playing the game. It felt fun and fresh and gave me the opportunity to experiment and build a team that I wouldn't normally. The only problem was they let the old pokemon take the forefront a little too much. One of the parts I disliked the most about some of the games is the small selection of Pokemon available to catch early on. You don't really get access to a good variety of Pokemon often times until after the 4th or 5th gym.

I'd be surprised if we get any pre-evos or evos of older pokemon. It seems since Gen 4 they've retired from doing that. Now with the addition of mega evolutions it seems even less likely. Which is a shame since there were a few Gen 4, 5 and 6 pokemon I'd like to see evolutions for.

Another thought but I think we're only going to get a "third" version this gen. I think they're gonna start alternating between remakes and third versions for each gen instead of doing both.

Probably the worst batch of starters since Gen V.

Only the Grass Owl looks slightly appealing. In the end though, their final evolutions are what matters to me.
I mean look at what happened to Fennekin. Yuck.

Since I went Grass in X, Water in OR, I'll go with Fire for Moon.

I just watched the Japanese commercial and I felt so good that I had to smile. Why can't NoA have such amazing marketing? Wii U might have actually done... something if that were the case.

Latias and Latios. They can learn Dive and Waterfall too, while you're at it.

Well, you wouldn't teach them fly in ORAS, that's for sure...

Gen 3. The Pokemon distribution in Gen 6 made it so I often had to go out of my way if I actually wanted to find new Pokemon. I guess they might have done that since it had the gimmick of being the first game with 3d battles, so hopefully they won't do that again.
