Gran Turismo Sport Unveiling live stream discussion (incl. FIA Championship gameplay)

All of that is there. Problem is these guys are fastest in time trials and for some reason left their driving etiquette at numerous points.

GT has had a rudimentary, but functional setup for tire condition for years now, but they decided to turn it completely off for this showing. Tire management is not well emphasized in any of the gt games so far and to make it out to be some an exacting, hyper-realistic competition without this most basic of strategic considerations is a serious oversight.

It's not completely the driver's fault that the racing is underwhelming. They are trying to win and the game gives little impetus to dial it back from a 10/10 effort at all times. The only consideration they have it how long their nerves can hold out. The situation around them is constantly static so why not go 10/10?

I've really enjoyed every gt so far but taking this competitive racing focused approach is just not playing to their strengths.

Edit: or perhaps the tire wear was there and on but had no effect at all on anyone while driving their tires off for 40 straight minutes on the ring? idk.

This was really the worst. It's fine for gt to play like that when it's going in the old automotive-museum-fantasy-glam direction but trying to pass it off as some kind of fia-recognized hardcore esport with racing like this is backwards.

FIA will just give them licenses. Esport doesn't need to be realistic, it needs to be spectacular, otherwise we would have ARMA tournaments instead of CS:GO :)

and what loose the entirety of the causal fanbase?

Yeah, but this trailer and live streaming session just goes to show you that they aren't serious about racing. As they never were, actually. GT games are about car collecting and the car culture by itself, racing is a extra.

GT is fading slowly to me, like a very great memory from my childhood. Now it's just something that losts completely its way. Maybe I'll still buy it later on for taking shots of cars - I really enjoy photo mode and fiddling with my pics later on Photoshop - but that's about it.

Gran Turismo isn't a serious racing game anymore. No racing sim would put fake and ludicrous non-existant cars against real ones to race each other with fake start procedures and whatnot. And when you look at the real cars they put on track in this demo you'd see that they are from different specifications and years. It's depressing for a motorsport enthusiast.

I'm sure that GT Sport, and even a GT 7, will find a lot of space out there thanks to its name alone, the legacy, the fan base - even if this fan base is dying. But for me, that's it.

But that is what is so god damn strange about this game. Who is it for? They seemed to have come up well short of a proper e sport "grade" online racer and it is devoid of all the stuff casual GT fans and die hards love about GT games. The collecting etc. This seems to miss all the marks. I think they should have just called it GT Academy Pro or something. Cause outside of GT Academy events...whats the point? And yes, safety ratings are great even for casuals. People learn quickly when systems are in place to encourage it. You obviously can always do unsanctioned races and leagues without safety ratings, just like in iRacing. It is a win win system and seemingly pretty staright forward. It hasn't changed at all since I started playing it a few years ago.

This x1,000. GT games need to lean even harder into the driving (not racing) and car ownership aspect. Racing has always been mostly shit in GT games, offline and online. GT Sport seems to highlight just how poor racing in GT games has been and seemingly will continue to be.

The problem Psycho Mantis and I are discussing is a lack of strategy in the racing, not necessarily a lack of realism for it's own sake.

After all the shit this game is getting in this thread this is just too funny.

To the bolded: The campaign mode with 100+ events?

I saw the live streaming, mh, i'm not sure they know what have to do... I was expecting an amazing video between gameplay and replay, 60 fps, astonishing sunshaft and car models, and great music. Instead i found a 30 fps, bad encoding and antialiasing... Where's just a day by feeder? I grew with gt serie and after that i feel betrayed...

You expecting anything other than what has been done to death in other GT games? 100+ events is a meaningless number. GT6 has had thousands of "events" since launch in the form of seasonal events and they are uninspired to say the least. I am not expecting much more than... start in last place, win the race events with maybe some driving school like "license test" type things....which I admittedly love in GT games.

It kind of is the drivers fault. Veteran GT players know how to drive safely in online championships. I don't blame them for spinning out or losing control of their car but stuff like spinning out and the immediately reversing out on the track when other cars are approaching was embarrassing stuff to see.

There is still strategy even with basic tire loss, fuel consumption, tire compound options in GT however this competition was more about setting the fastest laps. Thats how GT academy has always been from what I remember.

I can see your perspective. I suppose i would put it like this: If the focus is to be on an authentic racing experience, the need for etiquette should come from the consequences of negligence from within the game, and not from a desire to role-play a realistic race.

These drivers were driving recklessly, but they paid little consequence for it thanks to the game. I like self-imposed restrictions in gt when playing alone or casually, but for a play-to-win situation it leads to what we saw here.

So what? 100+ "events" made up of three lap races with fake start procedures and a field mixing up cars from the 60s with LMP1s, plus everything in between, as we have seen before?

I actually am optimistic of the campaign considering how the cars are supposedly subdivided into classes. The biggest flaw with gt's campaign over the years has been the wildy unpredictable and mismatched fields of cars as you point out.

Even though the youtube player is saying 720 60fps, the video stream is actually 50fps. Why the hell would they choose to stream at 720p and 50fps, when the game's going to be running at 1080p 60fps. Then there's the audio sync issues. Man what a clusterfuck of a presentation this was.

To me the below image does sound like it's (hopefully) not the usual life-less campaign like you describe.

So Sony first releases GT6 on a dead console and now this spinoff 3 years into this gen? Ofc all of this by the incompetent PD who are years behind. Sony fucked GT ip by giving PD the freedom instead of stepping in and forcing them to fix their shit even if it meant outsourcing most of the work. GT popularity is going to be killed this gen and by the end of it it's going to sell like any other franchise instead of being the biggest unless they do something before it's too late.

Literally, the more I hear about this GT Sport project, the more I just wish they'd have ported GT6 to PS4 and added this FIA stuff in and released it like a year ago and actually just spent time working on GT7 and carried the FIA stuff over.

This seems like such a non-starter and really does seem to miss the reasons people love Gran Turismo.

That would have been actually... you know... the most sensical thing to do. In fact, after having GT6 so late in PS3's life, i genuinely expected to see GT6 remastered on the PS4... Hasn't happened. Now we have that GT Sport which looks like exactly GT6 up-rez, with less content, which seems to be online only (?), bound to be released almost 3 years later GT6 PS3 and 3 years after PS4 release???

No it's not. The game still has a campaign, an arcade mode, and two player split-screen.

I think the overall graphics and feel of the driving is fine but why doesn't sony get some people to help out with sounds, extra physics for crashes and what not.

Is sony not realizing that maybe this game coule be a 10 million or more hitter again instead of dropping well below 5 million in sales

With online and buying things the way it is now sony should be doing this a lot better (timely and overall content)

Remember how the improved sounds were going to be patched in to GT6? Remember how GT5 sounds were actually super good if you set some of the audio settings just right? Remember how sounds were going to be improved from Prologue to GT5? Remember how they were going to completely overhaul the sounds between GT4 and GT5?

Picking up a pattern here? Vacuums are here to stay. I expect GT7 to be no different. It extends far beyond just the engine noises. No GT game has ever had an even remotely accurate transmission modeled in both physics and sound. They all sound the same cause they all rev and shift the same.

i ALMOST understand when it was 1000+ cars, they couldnt possibly make accurate engine, transmission, exhaust, turbos etc easily for all of them, but with 137 cars? come on now PD

Does Sony have any reason to if sales are always good ? I know PD are frustrating but until sales drop, I don't think you'll see a change. It's an odd situation.

Didn't they get some sound lead from the Forza team? Wonder what happened there. Do they just like the way GT sounds.

up the trailer, down the gameplay...

why polyphony?

Gameplay looks so good, I can't understand the complaints at all. 60fps on the PS4 looking like that? Pretty damn good.

GTs AI to me was always its weakest link, it makes sense to focus on multiplayer first.

Is Yoshida creaming money off the top of Polyphony's budget, and that's why he's allowed this charade to continue for years?

It needs ending.

Where's the Q&A on the Isle of Man and bikes?

Did one of those university students that they rope in on the weekend do this model? Disgusting.
Honestly, during the gootage I paid attentil exactly to those details and they were much better (much 'rounder') than this picture, so I'm guessing this is just an LOD problem.

As I said earlier, and the bottom gif confirms it, the motion blur they're using is excellent.

But the first gif shows terrible lack of v-sync. :(
