Gran Turismo Sport Unveiling live stream discussion (incl. FIA Championship gameplay)

Looks wonderful.

There are clearly two builds being shown without distinction, one with obvious placeholder assets in place.

And the build with the cutout 2D trees is the one used in the official trailer ROTFL.
While the photomode has been given prime time.
Btw more recent build or not, this game it still clearly based on GT6 tech and it shows with all its limits (not just graphical) including bad sounds, bad collision physics, no mention of damages, weather, dynamic day/night cycle and more.
People are totally right to feel disappointed.
This game might have been a good appetizer for the real GT7 in 2014....not at the end of 2016.

My feeling is that Polyphony needed a serious restructuring long ago (since the GT5 days) with someone forcing them to set their priorities straight.
Sony has been too complacent because their games have sold well in the past, but with GT6 things went wrong and I don't think that with this title there's room to grow, it's the same game for the same fans with the same limits.

up the trailer, down the gameplay...

why polyphony?
The gameplay shot is not even the final one. At the start of the stream they said that the current beta it was at 50%. Many track spots in Nurburgring were shown untextured in gameplay, the cars doesn't leave skidmarks, the smoke and particle effects were not close to the level of GT6 or were directly missing, etc. I remember similar videos in the early builds of GT5 and GT6, and even in the first GT5 Prologue trailers.

Some likes too much to play the drama game, as PD always did they will be revealing new key features and showcase a more polished game along the next months at E3, TGS, etc... it's nothing new in a GT.

There's some major clipping on the carousel corner too.

So why reveal it to the world in such an unfinished state?

Thought I would give it the benefit of the doubt because of 60fps. Then I decided to check out some Driveclub VR which runs @60fps videos from the PlayStation Experience event.

Mind blowing
I have no ideal what PD been doing the last 3 years, but its evident they must have looked at Evolution as some kind of competitor rather than an in-house studio with the racing game engine of the future.

Watched the gameplay. Vacuums confirmed. Ugh, all hope is lost. Was so looking forward to some type of GT on PS4. The gameplay did look better than the trailer, but I'll just go back to GT6.

Revealing a game when it's finished might be a bit too late.

That's not DC VR.

You're missing something. The video quality/resolution in the headset is nothing of that that is on the screen in the YouTube video.

When I tried it at PSX, it was at very, very low quality.

That's not DC VR.
Knew something was wrong.

I'm sorry but that does not look current generation at all. :(

But it does show that this is indeed a very early version of the game, probably alpha or pre-alpha even. I mean, there's no movement in anything at all, not even the dude holding the flag at the start, hahah

That DC VR footage is not mind blowing in any sense. By taking away the dynamic lighting the took everything that made DC special. The VR edition looks like any other racer with its flat lighting. And seems to be quite difficult to drive with a headset.

So outside of the Liverly edititor (way to add it a generation after everyone else PD! Well done) is there anything here new since GT6?

And no mention of damage, TOD or weather is worrying.

Doubly so for time of day because GT default sunlight is terrible and makes everything look like crap.

And I wonder if the FAI deal gives them a excuse to not bother with damage again and remove it entirely.

Just a question for those more technically inclined. Could a video that is actually 50fps, showing 60fps gameplay cause some tearing that is actually not present in the game. (I know it can definitely cause framerate to not look as smooth, but no idea about tearing)

Strangely enough, with all the GTS news, I'm once again interested in picking up Project Cars.

How is the console (PS4) version in relation to PC? If I have the rig to run it, is it a no brainer on PC?

The only thing that would do that is bad encoding. But that's highly unusual, tbh.

You would think with all the money they spend on these vision of GT and behind the scenes clips for trailers and what not they could afford a new set of sound effects. Seriously, just hold a cellphone mic recorder next to an engine for 10 seconds at this point and I will be happy.

Oh well, hopefully they will take these into consideration before final release.

Anybody else think this was not an e3 stage reveal because its so lackluster?

Sony rented out a former Olympic venue, brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cars to display and for people to drive, and invited journalists and gamers from around the world to play it...but you think they're ashamed of it.

Gran Turismo Sport - Tokyo Expressway (MEGA download link)

Guys, here's some edited down footage (mostly footage that would be from traditional gameplay angles, with some replay angles sprinkled in between here and there, totaling 3.5 minutes).

This imo runs far smoother when actually downloaded and played in a media plyer than it did on the YT stream, maybe because the video is actually 50fps and YT may have been converting that to 60fps or something (or maybe it's my computer), I don't know. This is the best quality you can get the gameplay in at the moment.

If only this was just a photomode simulator...Godayyam!!!
Those are real pictures, right?

Thanks! Will watch.

Gran Turismo is a joke compared to DriveClub and Forza these days. Really disappointing, hopefully the final release wows.

Did one of those university students that they rope in on the weekend do this model? Disgusting.

Quoting this post again just to show what I said earlier, that screenshot is probably a low poly LOD model, probably a glitch, here's the same scene in another race (and I got a white car where it's easier to notice the poligonal edges), see how much more 'round' the model is:

dBv275R.jpg

So here's what I got from all the footage I've seen:

+ Trees look much better than in previous GTs (don't get fooled by the trailer footage)
+ Car models are very detailed, probably even more so than in F6
+ Motion blur is very high quality
+ Sense of speed is great
+ Lighting is incredible, as expected
+ Photomode looks awesome and there's livery editor (finally)
+ HDR looks really good

- Engine and tire sounds are not improved at all, apparently
- Landscapes look bland at times
- Collisions look as bad as they always did and there's no damage to cars (seriously, why is it so difficult for a GT game to have any kind of damage to cars, even if it's just cosmetic, something like Driveclub? ffs)
- Tearing and aliasing are very apparent

Driveclub was fraught with so many problems it took them a year delay to release a broken online game that wasn't fixed for months.

I mean its great that it finally got in a decent enough state, but there's a reason why Evolution is gone. :(

My expectations were not really met.
I also believe this is GT6 tech at its base because it just looks like a GT6 with better car models and lighting. I don't know why they decided to show the wall impact scene as that would only be ridiculed.

We can only hope this is a kind of a GT Prologue PS4 on PS3 tech and that GT7 will be on new tech.
Ok, the photo editor is nice... but is that really what fans have been asking for? Sorry to say, but Forza Motorsport blows this thing away. Only thing GT would have against it would be some more tracks.
I will still probably end up buying it if that PS4Neo does launch in autumn or whenever it comes out.

I just want someone to ask them if the sounds are final? I really hope not. I couldn't believe how quiet that oval was.

I'm thinking that the new and dramatically improved sounds will be reserved for mainline GT

It takes time for a redesign of the audio to happen so maybe PD is just recycling for now....I don't know lol..that's all I have..

Any chance I could a link to a replay of the livestream or was it not captured?

A few thoughts:

Interesting to see the car count at 137. I thought Polyphony said the Premium quality cars in GT5/GT6 were future proof? Not that big of a deal for a more Motorsport focused title that GT Sport seems to be going for, though.

Livery editor looks cool, lighting is fantastic as always and photomode looks top notch.

Also, has there been any mention of dynamic TOD/Weather? It's got to be in the game, surely? Weird for there to be a reveal of a racing game without showing it off in the rain or at night.

"decent state"... Harsh.

Then again I don't think I can remember when nor how long GT5 took to reach a "decent state"
