Gran Turismo Sport Unveiling live stream discussion (incl. FIA Championship gameplay)

- Collisions look as bad as they always did and there's no damage to cars (seriously, why is it so difficult for a GT game to have any kind of damage to cars, even if it's just cosmetic, something like Driveclub? ffs)

They had cosmetic damage in gt5. Worked pretty good. I'd be surprised if they go backwards from that. But obviously whatever damage they have in mind is not ready to show here.

Quoting this post again just to show what I said earlier, that screenshot is probably a low poly LOD model, probably a glitch, here's the same scene in another race (and I got a white car where it's easier to notice the poligonal edges), see how much more 'round' the model is:

So here's what I got from all the footage I've seen:

+ Trees look much better than in previous GTs (don't get fooled by the trailer footage)
+ Car models are very detailed, probably even more so than in F6
+ Motion blur is very high quality
+ Sense of speed is great
+ Lighting is incredible, as expected
+ Photomode looks awesome and there's livery editor (finally)
+ HDR looks really good

- Engine and tire sounds are not improved at all, apparently
- Landscapes look bland at times
- Collisions look as bad as they always did and there's no damage to cars (seriously, why is it so difficult for a GT game to have any kind of damage to cars, even if it's just cosmetic, something like Driveclub? ffs)
- Tearing and aliasing are very apparent

I have to wonder if the people guessing at 2 different builds being shown are on to something. The game looks so inconsistent. Beautiful at times, and gaggy at others.*

*To keep it in perspective, gaggy by our expectations. Video games are still amazing.

Interesting to see the car count at 137. I thought Polyphony said the Premium quality cars in GT5/GT6 were future proof? Guess not.
They're calling these "super premiums" as in cars built from scratch for this game. My guess is GT7 will also feature the "regular" premiums from GT5/6 that were futureproofed (at least in terms of polycounts), but still probably require some work (texturing/material etc) to get them up to speed in the current engine hence why they're not featured here. But that's just speculation.

I think I saw car shadows moving around based on car position relative to sun/lights.

Too bad stream resolution was not high enough to see the details clearly.

I for one am super excited for this game.

Ah I see. Probably a good guess.

It would be scandalous if shadows didn't move ten years ago. Why the excitement?

It's not 'guessing at' anything haha. The build they were using at the event was literally loaded the night before as per Ben Edwards commentary before the first race

It's pretty typical for driving sims to have a lot of highs and lows graphically.

I don't think the graphics are a big problem here. It is somewhat disappointing that it's not blowing other games out of the water, but hey there's more competition than just forza now so no big.

My problem is that they are presenting this like it's shifting towards a competitive or mp platform, but they have this big race today and they showed really no features or changes that would make this better than gt6 in that regard. Maybe they'll come through but they did't show much today.

That would also require at least a locked-like-a-law-of-nature 60fps, right?

So there's a positive.

Does anybody know if VR support mandates 1080p as well?
I don't think so. 60fps is the only known requirement for PSVR right now.

But thanks to the Neo 1080p requirement. All PSVR games will at least be 1080p 60fps when running on the Neo.

Ok, so having slept on the disaster that was yesterday, this is what I think:

+ Great looking cars and good lighting (in photo mode anyway)
+ No PS2 cars, finally

- Horrible Sounds
- Tracks lacks detail
- Too much time wasted on photo mode (although it does look amazing)
- Horrible looking effects (smoke etc)
- Same old laughable collision physics
- No damage
- No day/night cycles or weather effects that we know of

I'm sure by the time of release it will look similar to DC but with more subtle lighting.

This image from the site looks similar to DC, but I would say aerial perspective and distant foliage is better.

And this tunnel too. Lighting is great.

I think people are not giving PD enough credit for putting together a build capable of 17 car races over LAN at a number of tracks. Corners were probably cut to make sure the build wouldn't bug-out.

That sterile "Gran Turismo" look has grown on me, I don't want GT without it now :D

It has some cool Japanese charm you don't see elsewhere.

Still, there's a lot to improve.

I like the clean ui design, plain, but high quality.

Who is the voice actor for the car sounds?
LOL

This looks passable... good, but certainly not up to what you expect from PD. I was hoping I'd feel the same way about this as I did about the first GT and especially GT3 (that jump was SO amazing!), but it's just not doing anything for me. :(

I can't get over how dissapointed I was with this showing last night. I always joked that they would fuck it up but still had hope somewhere that I'd be wrong. The only silver lining is that they will see the feedback and maybe try and fix a few things.

I'm gonna play some Forza and PCars today to cleanse my soul.

If they listened to feedback, they wouldn't still continuously have terrible car sounds so I've given up on that already.

Theres a Q&A session with Kaz happening tomorrow. Im sure sounds, weather and day/night will be addressed.
saw on snapchat that a 24h race is going to be in the game (this was apparently said at the presentation), so i think weather and day/night cycles are basically confirmed.

I think the engine is what it is. Yes, they can rework textures but they have to be careful of a performance hit.
The other criticisms like sound are known since many years and they didn't really change it so although they *could* change it, I don't see why because they also didn't bother before.

The shadow maps are real-time with low-res visual flaws so there's a sign they didn't revert to baking stuff in the environment and it should be possible for time change considering it's the same engine that did it on PS3. Maybe they're just spreading out their reveals and waiting until they have more polished footage.

Skipped GT6, this looks like more of the same. I can understand the GT hype from back of the day (PS2 era really was incredible, so much to fucking play!), but I can't figure out how you could have hype for the series at this point.

Gran Turismo isn't a serious racing game anymore.

Anymore? When has GT had real racing regulations, start procedures, etc? How many games do actually? lol

...still clearly based on GT6 tech and it shows with all its limits including ... no mention of damages, weather, dynamic day/night cycle and more.

What?

Yeah, GT5 damage wasn't that bad, also, well, usually you don't unveil all the features in a game all at once, either, at most you tease them.

The screenshots posted in the thread, from builds that definitely reflect their final vision better, look pretty good to me.

Jumping to conclusions and judging from a (probably) alpha or pre-alpha version that has to be as stable as possible for a tournament broadcast live, on a 50 FPS stream converted to 60 FPS on Youtube, lol :P
