Gran Turismo Sport Unveiling live stream discussion (incl. FIA Championship gameplay)

Here's a better look at the new wheel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74FtElq7mdA

I thought it was going to be expensive on first glance...but it looks like it's going to be even more expensive than I previously thought. It seems very high end.

It is 99,9% an Direct-Drive wheel and that will make it very expensive.

ATM all "direct drive" wheels are sold for 1500€ and above

I would be amazed if Thrustmaster found a way to obtain industrial motors and all needed components on large-scale numbers and that final wheel comes with 700-800€ pricetag.

Still waiting for the more info, but what I know is that I really want that wheel. Will I be able to actually afford it, that is totally another story. But since it is basically an official GT wheel for the PS4/NEo, I somehow see it priced in the more "popular" segment than other direct-drive wheels on the market (ACCU, Leo Bodnar, Frex, etc)

What does this mean exactly?

That several of the cars have updated audio and the majority don't and will be so for final release?
That several of the cars have updated audio for now and the rest are placeholders?

The confusion hurts....

Premium and standard audio cars incoming ;(

Some other impressions:

"... the physics behind car and track are powerfully realistic. Developers worked on a new suspension model and refined the aerodynamic model to boot. The result, at least in our ten minutes at the helm, is remarkably true to life; satisfying to get right, and sometimes quite frustrating during the hard bits."

"I also noticed a slightly more gritty engine sound than what I have heard in previous builds. A Sony representative confirmed that several of the cars were equipped with updated audio."

"Once the races started, though, it was immediately clear that there have been significant changes to the artificial intelligence of the other drivers, as confirmed by U.S. Gran Turismo producer Taku Imasaki."

"This gave the racing a different and more challenging feel. I felt like I would need to push and drive defensively if I wanted to get ahead and win."

"Polyphony Digital are notoriously anal-retentive about these things, so it is no surprise that the engines sound beautiful (and different, depending on the car) and the tracks look more beautiful than ever."

"All of that, of course, is pointless if it doesn’t drive well, but this is Gran Turismo, so no worries, it drives like a dream.

"Front-wheel-drive cars drive differently than rear-wheel drive, 4WD have better handling but are heavier, turbos perform differently than naturally aspirated engines, etc. Gran Turismo has always done this stuff well, so this is not a surprise. But everything is just that much better. The blades of grass are more subtle, the reflection of the car in front of you is a little more clear."

Reading this one might come to the conclusion that Eurogamer's preview was solely based on the failed reveal trailer...

Well, that sounds good. Only 6 more days and I can finally get my hands on GTS myself. And I am certainly not as easy to please as Malory Archer.

Shit. I stand corrected. Those are some really positive impressions about Gran Turismo Sport. Save for the fact every single one of those quotes are from the initial impressions of GT6. It's the honeymoon phase all over again, but we know how all this hyperbole panned out once people played it for a few dozen hours. Not drinking the pre release hype kool aid ever again. This is literally the same shit we have heard before.

And why you quoted GT6 impressions?

This may have been posted somewhere already, I haven't seen it though. It's a video of somebody doing a run-through of the demo, just looking at different menus, cars, modes, etc.

Gran Turismo Sport - Demo Menu

EDIT:
It's probably worth mentioning that even the menus can be buggy at the moment.

That means the game is still in development.

The quotes are about GT6, not Sport.

It's not just Eurogamer preview. There are other Italian previews saying that GTSport is too similar to GT6 in driving model, collisions, physics, graphics and sounds.

Can link it if you want.

Eurogamer, Videogamer, TeamVVV all saying the same thing. Game hasn't improved enough.

Eurogamer said in his preview that GT 6 is and hansome game? Gaf told me it was terrible. But yeah collision are still bad , there are minor improvements on sound apparently and there is no huge leap in graphic.

Menus look great, but the best thing about it is Moon Over The Castle playing in the background.

Livery sharing confirmed?
hYpe3s8.png

Yeah, they mention on the official website that you can share them

Gran Turismo Sport is equipped with a “Livery Editor” that enables players to customize the livery of their vehicles, or even recreate the livery of their favorite racecars. The created design can be shared between players. Surprise your friends with your originality and level of artistry.

UI looks pretty good, although it bears more than a passing resemblance to the XBO OS!

You two are changing your tune little by little, its amusing. And why so hung up on the beta? You'll be able to let people try the game before you buy it when it comes out.
I think everyone had the right to be hugely disappointed after the initial reveal a few days ago, and blame lies squarely at PD's feet for using shoddy builds in an ill-conceived and badly structured event. Stuff shown since then has been a lot, lot better.

And there's people out there still waiting for the beta. Many don't know it's been quietly canned.

The thing I'm liking most from the reveal is they have gone for only 137 High quality (Super Premium) cars, dropping all the low quality car models finally and trimming the fat that has started to way down GT over the last few games, which should make it a much more focused racing game.

If they can get the audio up to scratch and make any further refinements to the already excellent driving / handling of GT6, then this should be a fantastic racing game.

Just put the quotes into Google.

that are GT6 impressions. Not sure why anyone would post them here.

He's doing it to show how history is repeating itself. Once all was said and done GT6 ended up being GT5.5 with a bunch of features cut.

GT Sport seems to be taking it even further in the wrong direction.

With the way you accused PD of lying and incompetency, I would've thought you would write the beta off as well. Instead you intent on focusing on it being canceled. I don't think anyone is really surprised at that (the original beta date was spring). I'm gonna be there day one for GTS, and I never banked on any beta. That was all bollocks from the start.

The point is that there was a lot of positivity and hype about GT6 and a lot of early impressions that suggested that they'd made some big strides forward but a lot of us look back at GT6 as a massive disappointment because it really didn't make the big steps forward in places that we expected it to.

With GT Sport, you can forgive people for feeling somewhat cynical about any similar claims that they've finally made the big improvements that the game really needs when it comes to the fundamental gameplay.

So people that actually played the game cant be positive on the game I guess. :/

Yeah on GT6 only some of the new cars had tessellation (and none of the GT5 premiums had it). It seems like they'll be throwing out everything that wasn't tessellated.

I expect GT7 will have all premiums which to be honest is completely fine they looked great anyway only naff shadows spoiled the looks.

If they have thrown all that work away then they deserve to fail this generation.

There is no excuse for being cynical. It's just toxic bullshit. Name the things you don't and do that broken record thing.

Of course they can. No GT game is ever 'bad' by any means.

It's just that a lot of us feel like the Gran Turismo franchise could be so much better if they addressed some of the fundamental gameplay elements but there's not been much to suggest that is the case this time.

But that might not matter to a lot of players and that's fine.

Which feautures were announced but cut now?

It's not about announced features being cut, it's about features that were in previous games being cut which is even worse IMO.

How do you have dynamic weather and TOD on the PS3 and then not have them on the PS4?

I simply can't believe anything Kaz says anymore after he fed us the bollox that GT6 was running on a new engine built for next gen and it would allow the transition to the ps4 to be smoother and quicker. Well it's been almost 3 years and look at what we are getting.

The fact is, a HD 60fps version of GT5 with all of the online features fully in tact would be better than what's been shown so far.

I have angered you. I am sorry for criticising PD and GT Sport. Both are obviously without reproach.

I don't actually remember accusing PD of 'lying and incompetency' about the beta, but I'm sure that if I did, you have a quote to hand.

And whether you like it or not, the announcement of the beta last year was Very Big News. A lot of casual and hardcore gamers were looking forward to it, and a lot of people will be upset when they finally find out that it's been quietly cancelled. Just because you have a crystal ball and somehow knew it was never going to happen doesn't mean that everyone else did, and even if you frequent GT Sport threads on gaming forums then you might not even learn it's no longer happening.

Edit: and you do hopefully realise that YOU just accused PD of lying by saying "I never banked on any beta. That was all bollocks from the start".

Physician, heal thyself.

Good, that GT Sports isn't the successfor of GT6.

We have impressions from long time players of GT6. In fact the impressions from the people who have played it are very promising.

It's not brilliant quality but we don't have a lot of options at the moment when it comes to videos of the game.

Gran Turismo Sport Event - Willow Springs Race

EDIT:
Having watched the video makes me wonder wether it would be a good to have an option in the game to maybe use Ben Edwards as a commentator? It would fit in with the TV/E-Sport style they seem to be going for.

If they sell the wheel-base seperately and it's direct drive (no belts or wheels) aaand they sell it for for 700 or less, I'm super interested... even if the motor can only deliver relatively low forces compared to other direct drive wheels on the market. Not interested in that wheel rim though. Except for the kinda cool looking center logo, it looks like cheap plastic.

Wow, it's a nice attention to details to feature the selected car in the tracks selection screenshots (starting at the 5:50 mark).
