Applying for jobs is exhausting and soul-crushing

What's a good answer to tell employers when they ask you "Why do you want to leave your current company?" without making them get worried that I might leave them for the same reasons in the future?

I don't feel challenged there.
I've always had an interest in <whatever your company does>.
I'm looking for a role that is more XYZ.
My current company is moments away from firing me.

Wow, I've never had to do a personality test for a job opening, that's crazy.

You think that's bad try one of these. 3 minutes per question, 40 questions. Next section was 15 seconds per question. This was for an analyst role. Just another way to torture us. In a way I guess it helps narrow the competition because a lot of people will just give up when asked to do one. That's what I tell myself anyway.

*sigh* No luck so far. Had two 3rd stage interviews this week. Didn't get either (was missing one skill on both :( ).

This sucks so much. Savings is almost running out. I started applying at Costco and Target. Feels bad GAF.

Well, I just did a follow-up email for a position that I've had two interviews so far for. I am currently working but this job would be a career job. I hate the waiting. :(

The example question you linked actually looks quite fun.

I've had to do one for a developer role once. It said i was an introvert so i was unsuitable for the job. :lol

What?!

Being an introvert as a developer is a plus. Was it a management/leadership role?

There's an inherent bias against introverts sadly, mostly because many don't really know what introversion is. The book Quiet or the TED talk goes into this detail.

No, a regular php/sql developer position. The HR person of the company literally told me "introverts dont work well with our manager, he expects them to work independently". The recruitment company that introduced me to the company later said that the company only wanted people who got certain results on their personality test. Everything about it was a huge WTF, but i was happy to have dodged that company.

that seems like a really weird question to ask for that role.
Also the answer is
b

In reality you could have correctly guessed that answer by looking at the answers. A poorly designed answer scheme will have the same number and a 'decoy' similar number nearby, which in this case leaves
-12
.
So I'm not sure what this test is supposed to demonstrate exactly.

So I applied for a job at a 'small' company in another town. Get a chance to talk to the company's president briefly, who then sets me up to interview with the CFO, who'll be my direct boss. Did my in-person interview this past Wednesday and killed it. Sent both the president and CFO individualized 'Thank You' emails on Thursday. Afterwards I receive an email telling me to expect an offer letter 'soon'. My question is: what's a typical wait time before you guys actually received your offer letters? Ideally, I don't wanna be sitting on my butt for a week to go by before I hear back from them, right? I mean, I don't wanna seem desperate, but it'd be great to establish a cash-flow again.

That's a bullet dodged because the HR person has no idea what introversion is.

You should wait at least a week. No more than two I would say though, before messaging.

Earlier than that might annoy them/doesn't recognize that they have other things they need to do as well.

Keep looking in the meantime. The worst that happens is you get more than one offer, or didn't waste time twiddling your thumbs waiting for an offer that they end up changing their minds on.

Oh hey, there's a thread for unemployed GAF!

Been on the pressure to find actual work other than freelance writing so now I'm trying to find some form of a "normal job".
But so far, nothing's coming up since.

How do you guys manage to keep your spirits up and keep applying?

I've finally got my first legit job ever, it's been a really ROUGH ~2 months and don't want to get into to much details however after ~80 applications a got a slew of interviews last week(about 10) and decided to work as a prep cook/dishwasher at this country club; they pay well, the hours okay..starting at 28 hours and will work on holidays and big party day(at my choosing) I can also work my way up to full time but it's only when my supervisor; whom I'm working under decides to retire(he's 67 or 68)

however I was also offered a job at my local wholefoods as well, orientation is this Tuesday; the pay ok but the hours are not what I want(any where from 0-20 hours a week) however they definitely hae said I can work my way to full time(don't know how long that'll take though) and also it seems they will be increasing their "minimum pay to about $12.50 an hour in september I was told by a friend who works at Wholefoods, and the healt benefits are amazing(still under my mother's healthcare plan since she also works there)

really puzzled about what job to keep/choose...

I just kept reminding myself that I needed to do something with my life. No matter how mediocre that something was. I also started applying to more and more cities.

Waiting on a serious application is rough. Since it's for a legit job, the process takes longer than part-time work, so I'm stuck waiting to apply for part-time stuff since I might land this great job.

Patience, folks, is a serious virtue
that I don't have.

So I'm applying for a IT job at a security and consulting firm and i'm going through the required field you see the usual i.e. Pass a drug screening and then I see "Pass Nicotine screening" I'm like dafuq? I'm not a smoker and can't stand the smell, and California itself hates smoking but Lol.

I'm currently employed but am job hunting to see if I can make more by switching employers. I had a brief phone interview today and was shocked at how rude the HR rep was.

She accused me of lying on my resume about my job title right off the bat. She absolutely refused to believe I was in my current position. She asked me about overtime pay, even though I stated I was salary. She asked the same questions multiple times, I assume because she thought she could catch me in a lie. I had to reiterate that my job duties are in line with my position title through the entire conversation.

Somehow she asked me to come in for an interview tomorrow morning. I'm half tempted just to cancel it because it's clear she does not want me there and is only interested in proving that I do not currently have the job title I claim.

I've heard of stress interviews but none that start out by calling the applicant a liar. Is this even worth pursuing at this point? Should I call and cancel the interview?

If you really feel like this company could be better I would check it out. Is she gonna be the one to interview you? I would feel like if I backed down it would mean she won.

I just started new job yesterday. I got 53k base with 15% bonus structure in stock and 15% cash bonus every year. I also received eight thousand in stock as a sign on. Not bad considering my internship ended in December. I signed offer the week Of graduation. What a switch up in lifestyle this will be upon receiving first check next week. Worrying about moving back home and now I'm literally looking for a new place. I think I hit a great deal here. I hope everyone here lucks out as I.

Congrats, dude! You now have better income than the avg. American household.

If Whole Foods is offering you so few hours are they willing to schedule your time around the other job? Long term, WF is the better option but you've gotta pay the bills until they offer something close to full-time hours.

Just got an email, from HR for a company I applied to. Should I call him right away or wait until tomorrow to have some time to go over what he might ask? This was unexpected to me. Applied months ago and now I don't know what to do.

Got a response that they are still in decision making mode.....I'm so anxious. :/

I'm waiting to hear back from this guy to work for a company that is literally a 6 or 7 minute drive away. For my skills and what I can do (which I can do for the company) that is HUGE. Especially since I live in the middle of nowhere.

This might seem like a stupid question to ask but has anyone ever made it out of retail if that's their first job?

I don't really have an impressive resume
given I have a psych degree and that's it...
but...I'm kind of depressed I'll be in retail forever and that's all I can ever go for.

She would be the one to interview me. If this is normal behavior for the company then it definitely would not be a good move.

Yes, literally millions of people have worked retail as their first jobs and no longer work retail.

How long was the wait before you contacted them?

I waited two weeks after third interview. Hopefully hear something this week.

You're applying to other jobs, right?

Keep applying until you get a offer. Never put your eggs in one basket. It only adds anxiety.

Yeah good advice, but this one is the one I want and the closest I've come to an offer doing what I really want to do, at least I think it is. lol

I'm currently working so not so bad just really want this one.

It may be indicative of the culture there but then it may not be I've had several jobs that were fine to good but had a horrible HR dept. so you never know. Also unless you work in HR chances are you wont have to deal with them except on rare occasions.

Thanks! Really feels great having all the hard work pay off.

And to the poster asking if anyone has made it out of retail. I worked my way through college as a meat cutter doing 40-60hr weeks. It's definitely possible! Don't give up/in.

What if all the work experience you have ever had is amazon turk and 23 years old? Thats me, I put most of my attention toward school work. How do I explain this to the interviewer?

I would be seeing them and dealing with them on a regular basis.

I am going to cancel. I'm going to let her know that I don't feel it's beneficial for either of us to continue the application process until she believes that I am at the level that is on my resume. I will offer her any evidence she may want but until she is on board, I won't be going any further.

There are several other places I can apply to at this time and am in no hurry to switch employers. This is too big of a red flag for me.

Anybody have experience using Indeed.ca for applying for jobs?

Some postings have an "Easy Apply" button, where applicants can attach their resume, as well as write out a cover letter, and the website will send your application to the company.

I just tried this out and a pop up came up after pressing the "Apply" button, saying I had just "one more step to saving my resume by registering". I haven't received any confirmation email about my application being sent out yet - does this mean it hasn't actually been sent and I'll need to make an account, or does Indeed just not do confirmation emails for their Easy Apply postings?

It's okay. Tell them. I'm making a career change. And so far two places have offered me a job that pays more than I've ever made. You focused on school and that's great, let that be your strong point.

I just want follow up on my previous post. I nailed the interview again today. They offered me more money than anyone else ever has. And they're willing to work with my schedule as I work on my bachelor's. It's truly insane to me how this is all happening. Last week I was struggling to find a way to do all this. Today I'm so happy it's unreal. Everything is coming together exactly as I want it to.

I feel bad about telling the first company that I actually won't be working for them. They seemed adamant and excited to have me on the team.

Having to leave a good job with good money because of it being too isolated and hard on my family. Been applying for over a month now and not even a single interview yet. Sucks. I wish everyone all the best of luck in here as the thread title is the most appropriate title you can have for a job thread.

What are some good spots to look at online for jobs? I either want a second part-time job or to transition to full-time work.
I have a nice waitering gig now, but I need more hours... Of course I'm used to getting tips too so the transition might be difficult.

Anyone heard of Shields Search or Vita Shields? I got a recruitment email from there. Don't know if it's spam or not. I googled the contact number and it resolves to a graphic design place, not an employee recruitment company. :/

I hear Vita shields are under rated for what they offer. Truly quality work to be had. Never understood why they didn't take off.

Fairly certain you need to register; I used the Easy Apply feature last year and got an email confirmation for it.

Hey, fresh college graduate.

Looking for Industrial organizational psychology/ human resources positions of some kind without much in the way of research/work experience.

Anyone want to give some general advise? Is there a especially good website I should use to search for careers? Anything I should know in particular? Do I curl up in a ball and cry? Anything is useful.
