Gran Turismo Sport Unveiling live stream discussion (incl. FIA Championship gameplay)

I did not know they were making everything from scratch for GTS. That explains the timescales, I guess.

What happened to the 'future proof' assets from GT6?

I believe not all premiums were tessellated, and some had tessellation in certain areas. I think they're trying to go be consistent between cars this time.

because a calmness washes over me when i drive into the night and day while listening to some gentle, relaxing music.
Endurance races - that makes them essentially a no-go.

I was told, in this very topic, that there would be no way PD would remove dynamic weather and TOD because GT6 had it.

Surely removing it is bad?, how can removing a bulletpoint from a product be anything but?
Endurance racing, the transition from night time to morning is amazing and has great impact to races.

I mean from a design point to make that game. It seems that the tech itself has gone rather than just not using it. If the tech is there, why don't they just make it optional? Let gamers decide whether they want to have dynamic tod cycle and/or weather.

Edit: To make it even more clear, I referred to what bud quoted: "We had dynamic transitions in GT5 and GT6 and that had good and bad points."

No dynamic time of day change is a massive disappointment. Especially when I've been playing around with different lighting on Project CARS for every single track on the game.

The only way to "understand" PD is to NEVER, EVER believe whatever Kaz says. And judge them on what they deliver... In my book, he sits next to Molyneux, which is an achievment considering how I don't trust the latest.

The whole FIA association is still a big point of interrogation right now. Only concrete thing they said? you will be able to get an offical FIA licence.
Great? What for? What can I do with that? "Well... it will depend on local federations... a good tap on the shoulder if you are lucky?"
On that matter, anyone thinking this will allow them to drive cars in real life is in for a huge disappointment: even if the game was a good enough simulator to test/learn your driving skills, there is no way the local federation can be sure you really are the one who passed all the tests in the game... so they will NEVER, EVER give you any pass based on that...

So what is the use of it? I have no idea but based on PD history I d say: useless PR bullshit.

Yeah, disappointing. The price you pay when you make everything from scratch, apparently. There's a chance that things like dynamic weather and time will be included with future updates, just as Driveclub. It makes sense to support the game this way for another 3 years (PS4 life cycle, I suppose) rather than releasing Gran Turismo 7 or Sport 2.0, it's a common business model this gen. Same applies to game modes.
I'm more saddened by the amount of cars. I can agree that 1000 cars were not necessary but only in GT I could race with true classics and read about their stories. I don't want that to be missing or added later with a DLC because I'm not going to buy it. :|
Let's be positive and see it this way: Sport is another, different branch for Gran Turismo and the GT7 we were waiting for is still coming, with hundreds of cars from all ages and every feauture we can dream of. This way, I'd buy both.. but Sport alone doesn't seem enough.
I’m in this boat. I really never noticed the “terrible sound” in GT games, but only ever wanted more realistic damage and crashes in all racers, ( think I remember something about car manufacturers not wanting it or something) but other than that, I’ve been a one GT a gen buyer.

I’m bummed it’s not 1000 cars, I never had that many in my garage, but the novelty is nice, i usually ended up with about 50-65 cars, but it’s nice to have a go in the old cars I used to own.

I think I’m ok with the update model though. I would buy DLC instead of buying a whole new GT7.

If there is really no dynamic time or weather, then I may actually pass on GTS :\

I liked just driving in Nurburgring from dusk till dawn whilst raining, it soothes me lol

Also, not sure why they couldn't include the premium cars, no one's gonna care about tessellation besides fanboys anyway. Unless they do it because of the liveries editor, but we'll see I guess..

I mean I guess. I don't follow these games too closely honestly. So, in the end I end up playing with what they have usually. Always disappointed in the tire sounds more than anything else cause it seems like the most easy fix in teh world.

Me too. Assetto Corsa is supposed to be out in August now I believe. I'll be buying that for sure. It looks good and sounds like it does the job of being a great driving simulator and they have great cars. GT Sport really demands that "This deal is getting worse all the time" Star Wars meme.

Really disappointed in all of this. Looks like GT6 remade for the PS4 with most of the content missing.

It took them 3 years to make this game on a more powerful and easier-to-develop console and they can't even bring back dynamic time of day. Fucking wow.

GTS is already worse than GT5&6. I give no shits about the sport or competitive aspect in GTS. They created and had the tech in place for one of the most immersive driving/racing experiences and completely threw it away. My interest in GTS pretty much down to zero at this point.

Damn, what's the missing list looking like now?

And all for some esports FIA shit that only 0.5% of users will probably actually go and spend more money to do the required trackdays.

Nigh/day transition and dynamic weather was the only things that could allow PD to say that they were taking the genre forwards...

If they are gone, then what's left here that I can't find better and sooner on the other titles?

dynamic day/night changes
dynamic weather changes
good ai
good sounds
fleshed out sp mode
sensational graphics

it's all over lads

it had to come to an end some day

it happened to final fantasy
it happened to metal gear solid
it is happening to gran turismo

we'll still have the memories

I am dumbfounded. LOL.

For everything that was wrong with GT5/6, PD's day/night cycles were hands down amongst the best of any game; dusk and dawn looked so goddamn realistic. I cannot believe GTS won't have this. This is so sad. What is going on at PD, seriously.

Kaz:

GT Sport or GT7?

A: "Originally our focus was the sport mode, hence the name GT Sport, but with all the features we added, we could have called it GT7."

Apparently adding a livery editor, scapes mode to photomode and an online leagues system is enough for the game to be called GT7.

Even if they are removing dynamic weather, dynamic ToD and offline career mode.

I mean the features that GTS adds sound good in addition to what GT6 already built. So you don't have the cars, tracks or single player mode (I'm guessing that they sitll have special events), but for fucks sakes cut nothing else. Imma have to try hard not to go into full hate mode, I can't believe this.

Now I know what it feels like to be a Nintendo fan.

All you have is the past and nostalgia to hold on to.

So, apparently not even dynamic time of day is in. I don't know what to think :|

So i just catch up on the thread to see this .
Really WTF PD that is bullshit .
Well i won't be buying this game anymore .
Everything in this game just seem backwards and they took 3 years to do it .
You can't help but laugh at it all in pity .

yeah, they said they retooled their gt6 engine, so it'd be more 'flexible' and that they'd be able to use it on the ps4. and all of the premium cars--they already looked ridiculous in photo travel mode--were supposed to be future proof, so i'm not quite sure why they rebuilt everything from the ground up for the ps4.

we'll never truly understand polyphony.

They're rebuilding all the PS3 premiums? I don't understand why. They're all good models. The only things that requires touching up are the interiors.

To me, looks like there will be option to choose time of day before race.
If the lighting is not changing during the race, you might as well pre-bake it to look really awesome, but that can't be calculated in a minute while the track is being loaded. It would have to be saved on the disc and then the data needs a lot space, so you wouldn't be able to choose from more than a a few different settings (like morning, noon, afternoon, early evening, night; cloud cover/clear sky would also take additional space). Though, I'm not a graphic expert. (I want a "golden hour" and "morning fog" setting!).

If that's what they have to do to make VR run well and look good, that's totally fine by me.

Isn't this a lot faster than anything they did on ps3 though?

So this thread started bad, turned good and now back to all complaining and bad now? is this typical of gt threads, not very thrilling.

They delivered more content and better features with more time on PS3.

In three years they didn't manage an offline career and lost both dynamic weather and ToD.

It's funny how you seem surprised that people are upset.

The cherry on top(in a bad way of course) is that this will likely be the only GT on PS4 for years to come too.

Guess a few years from now i will look at it and see if it worth buying on the cheap .
After they add back stuff that was there during PS3 era (can't believe i had to type that lol)

Yeah, surprised cause this is pretty typical for some things but they did upgrade the sound but you are still getting people complaining about it over and over.

Also, I thought gt5 took a long longer than this and what not.

Ironically there dialling down the realism to add virtual reality.

Not everyone is going to have VR headsets. Couldn't it be an option for tv users to have realistic weather changes and times of day and then dumb it down for the VR users ?

Fuck adaptive tesselation. Fuck all the scapes bullshit.

Fix everything related to the on track experience.

Say what you want about PCars in terms of the bugs, the shit UI, etc (and framerate in certain scenarios on consoles), it's the fuckng immense on track experience that has kept me going back to it time and time again. When it all comes together it's like crack.

With less cars and now an all round less expansive and more predictable on track experience what reason will there be for people to keep going back to GT Sport?

I dunno DC started out even more barebones than this...I already preordered I'm there day one.

GAF isn't representative of all ps4 gamers

The sound is improved but it's still woefully off its competitors.

The price of VR.

This is bullshit, the entire game shouldn't be compromised for VR.

Not to mention the game is having tearing and dropped framerates now... not on VR but on normal TVs.

The game should have a VR mode that dynamically lowers quality in order to maintain framerate, the entire game shouldn't be compromised for that. Let alone a game that GT fans have been waiting on.

eh I don't know some Premiums had some bad polygonal edges.
I believe they kept the tessellated models from GT6 (pretty much all the new cars - some were partially tessellated so they may have fully tessellated them in the meantime) and added new ones.

I don't care much about weather, but the lack of dynamic time of day is a real deal breaker for me.

It's only a 2 year difference, not a lot faster at all considering GT5 took long because they had to build all the tech and do R&D from scratch. They're still re-using GT5's tech for GTS whilst having even less content, it's built on the same engine. How is 3 years not a long time for a drastically cut-down game on content and features?

I understand the complaints some of them but sound is improved I just don't care about the time changing cauas long races aren't fun to me anyways I guess.

I don't mind the complaints but honestly the sound will be hard to judge based on what one hears as good or bad and sound levels in general.

Only two years difference though? thats a lot.

There must be something fundamentally wrong with the engine for them to have had to cut features like this. I bet it's some Frankenstein engine that has been assembled using parts from the ps2 and ps3 engines.

The whole situation is a mess.

Each time I check back for GT updates it's just more disappointment.

Should be surprised really, PD has never took an interest in what the community wants and got lucky in the lack of true rivals but that is changing quickly.

I wonder how much the FIA had in the design decisions of this game or even its creation. Iirc they approached PD about this idea. While I think trying to popularise e-motorsports is a good thing for the genre, surely PD understand how a lot of their fanbase just want a drive.

Curious if GT7 will also have this e-Motosports stuff on top the usual or if they will separate the two (which seems weird).

= Less realism.

It wouldn't look as good as the pre-baked stuff and would need so much optimization dev-time.
From the next-gen racing titles (also looking to PC), only pCARS does dynamic ToD (and weather too). And there I wish they had rather put the weather dev-time into debugging and a better feeling tire model.

Dynamic weather looked worse but PD's lighting engine is second to none. Dynamic ToD looked amazing even in GT5/6 and better than the competitions baked lighting.

Glad I didn't prematurely preorder this shit on PSN. Looks like Wax and I are stuck with GT6.

That is your guess though and there is nothing that shows a mess other than the thought.

They made tracks better, cars better and got it out earlier. They have apparently (my assumption) made a choice to get the game out earlier and include content through time.

No one has complained so much about this with DC or PC but GT always gets more flak

With all bad news pilling up makes me wonder - is Polyphony still as big as they were in PS3 days? Otherwise I have no idea how Sport made so many steps backwards.

They will shut the servers down at the end of the year. Watch.

Is that GT6?

Man, I never brought GT6, tempted to drag my PS3 out of the loft and pick up a copy..........

I have an unopened steelbook anniversary edition but my PS3 is in my storage room.

I don't want to play it because I know it will only lead to more disappointment if I end up enjoying it.

The shit sounds, the poor trackside details, how the cars appear in relation to the physics. Open your eyes man... Seriously.
