I can't help to think that MS will once again try to differentiate using the cloud / cloud compute.
Star Citizen on at least one of the new consoles, come to me!

Plz, Chris ?
I'm really curious how the industry will deal with the upcoming console power struggle. We've been hearing for a long time how the increasing requirements to make a game in the AAA space are straining and there's a lot of stuff going to be added to the mix very quickly. I mean these new systems are all going to be extra work for the devs surely.
Well, it worked so well the first time.
I just realized there's going to be a new tier of fanboy that the console generation has never experienced before: Hardware Elitism within the same brand.
You thought Sony vs. Microsoft was annoying? Wait until it's Sony vs. Sony vs Microsoft vs Microsoft.
Enjooooooooooooooooooy.

Man, i was not in the mood to upgrade to a new console. Overwatch just came out, Uncharted just came out, Titanfall 2 and new Gears are coming out... this gen is finally getting going.
This is dumb.
Jason Schreier also said he heard that 5-6TF is the target. That's about as credible of a 2nd source as there is in the industry.
our scorpio story was multi-sourced, reporting for about five weeks (before i left for istanbul). all numbers provided by source.
i was skeptical of 6TF for scorpio when i heard it, but again, multiple confirmations. @crecenteb and @chrisgrant wouldn't run otherwise.
and hey, the 6TF number could change, just like the neo's 4.14 number could change. nothing is locked down until ship.
neither of those things change the fact that as of now, microsoft and sony are both announcing new hardware for you to buy at e3.
He tweeted it. Also said he heard from 1 source and that is why he didn't put it in the article.Where did you see that?
TFlops are the new "x number" bit?
LolThis feels very much like a controlled leak in my view - MS trying to hoover up some of the Neo hype. It'll be interesting to see if there are any hard numbers at E3.
why?Lol
The whole controlled leak thing makes me laugh every time I see it pop up.
that would be a pretty well lesson learned from 2013.This feels very much like a controlled leak in my view - MS trying to hoover up some of the Neo hype. It'll be interesting to see if there are any hard numbers at E3.

Nah, it's because of market reasons, technology reasons, and managing risks. I mean these consoles were not designed for 4K(1440P and 1080P with good anti-aliasing being more realistic rendering resolutions) or optimal VR. To truly allow for the best experiences and support up to 4K games, revisions are necessary.

I think this will be the case as well. Only first party games will fully utilize hardware while third parties focus on the lowest common denominator and work up a bit for higher settings.Devs would be better off simply continuing with the baseline they have right now, or simply choose on a case basis what kind of standards they want to push with their game.. With this strategy there is no real way to take full advantage of the platforms coming with increasing frequency anyway in any uniform manner
wow, this could be a shock for Sony, they should be prepared.
The way every single major gaming outlet blew the lid on this story today, definitely is controlled.
Lol

If these rumors are true, Microsoft is the one totally unprepared again.
They would be giving Sony a free check for full market domination until late 2017.
To put this number into perspective:
A Titan X has 6.1 TFLOPS of processing power.
If the Scorpio does end up clocking 6T it will be a monster.
I think this is one of the big reasons behind why it's coming Fall 2017. MS is working hard to figure out how to emulate ESRAM for full BC.
You don't think a company like MS would want to control every aspect of the messaging regarding a product line announcement such as this?why?
Where are all the "I'm done with console gaming" and the assortment of other concern posts now that microsoft is pretty much confirmed to have an iterative console in the works?
Listened to the ign vlog:
- credit to kotaku who heard from multiple sources
- 6tf refers to gpu
- big deal with oculus in works
- 2017 for new xbox, slim this year
- 3 year or so h/w iterations
Sony already has full market domination. Microsoft releasing a stronger console this year wouldn't move the needle much.
It would be in their best interest right now to wait it out and release a better console than Neo next year.

So we're PC now.
How would it be in their best interest? They announce their console now and they crater sales of the Xbox 1 until next fall.
Meanwhile Sony gains marketshare and profit when the unified model of PS4 and Neo. While MS banks on people all of sudden switching to their box while Sony firmly has people planted in their ecosystem by the time this releases.
I'll admit MS really has nothing to lose. The PS4 is going to continue to sell well regardless. It just announcing right now tanks their current sales and PS4 is in an even more dominant position next fall.
