Future Trunks is going to be coming back in the next arc apparently running from an enemy he can't defeat. There is already a design out if you use google to show what he looks like.

I should have looked at the name of Whis' voice actor. Didn't realize it's Masakazu Morita because he sounds totally different from his Ichigo performance in Bleach. Only noticed after watching the new episode. Immediately recognized him as Copy Vegeta's VA, but consider my mind blown when I found out he's also voicing Whis.
Aside from that, really disappointing episode. The art quality was terrible in some scenes, especially in the first few minutes. Improved a bit when Goku arrived, but nothing to write home about.

Good chance after seeing Goku/Vegeta as SSB he'll learn to attain it just like Vegeta with Goku.
I get the feeling Toriyama is trying to bury Super Saiyan 2 and 3, so I'm guessing it's God or nothing. On the other hand, I have a hard time seeing him having god ki.

Nah he'll arrive and max at SS2 like Vegeta, get a feel for the God Ki from Goku/Vegeta and then next time we see him again he'll be Blue. He is going to end up useless right now which is why he needs Goku/Vegeta's help to take down black Goku.

I hope they get back to Red Hair and a different physical composition for SSG because it genuinely looked unique instead of 'every anime character needs blue hair.'

Yeah but considering SSJ forms are only multipliers of your base form power level, it's not really a stretch. Cabba's lifestyle has him fighting and refining his skills way more than Trunks and Goten's lifestyle does.
Not really. The villain might've been just toying with him, which is why he managed to escape.
Could show up as not and then get something along with some of the other cast eventually.
This week we should know a little bit more since Jump should have some info and I think Newtype might leak by the weekend/around June 6th or so to give us the next month's episode titles and descriptions.

I thought this episode and the last were better than most of the tournament episodes. The animations in the last two were certainly a lot better than the stiff low quality animation of Hit.

Freeza wasn't really an "emperor" formally though. He was the owner of the business of conquering and selling planets to other aliens mentioned in the Saiyan Saga, but he didn't seem to be an actual ruler, in spite of being known as Emperor Freeza.

SSJ3 Gotenks is a joke now. It was hard, but I've accepted it. However, this shit did make Cabba look fucking legit.
Vegeta was going easy on Cabba tho.

Shame, this episode could have been character development for Goten and Trunks, or at least Trunks. With Vegeta starting to disappear, Trunks could have been disappointed in himself and decided to start training more, and maybe even try to control Gotenks so he isn't always messing up and fooling around. I was kind of hoping that was the route they would go, Gotenks losing was obvious, and him losing that bad was really disappointing, as soon as I saw we were 12 minutes in before a fusion, red flags started popping up.
SS3 Gotenks in the Buu saga couldn't last the full time, when he started getting near the end of the fusion, he turned back to base form. He never had a time problem though, he just got significantly weaker in the last few minutes. I like to think Vegeta was kicking Gotenks ass for 30 minutes, off screen, and it took Goku that long to notice.

We've known that Vegeta is way more powerful than Gotenks for awhile, the dude is God level.
It's not that Gotenks is weak, it's that Vegeta is God tier, what did you expect?
Other characters don't need to be made relevant, there's plenty of new characters and they can easily introduce more now with trunks timeline and the omni tournement. Hit and Champa are obviously going to become a good guy for example.

every member of the Z group had their time to shine in the past 20+ years.
now it's time for new people like whis, beerus, cabba and hopefully many more to get introduced and used in a meaningful way
That's the show's m. o though, half the cast is characters who had an important story role at one point but now the series has moved on. If anything super era dragon ball has been the best at looking back and throwing in some nostalgia for the less used characters

You can add plenty of characters, expand your world,expand your story and still have everyone be relevant in some way or do something. Introducing new characters doesn't mean you have to forget the old ones.
Add to that this argument only gets bought up for everyone else if that's the case goku and vegetation should be chilling in the back as well and gohan and the kids should be in the front. I mean goku and vegetation had their time right?

I'm biased [avatar lul] but Hunter x Hunter really has spoiled me as far as Shounen goes. I see Dragon Ball and I'm expecting so much more in 2016 after Yu Yu Hakusho, Hunter x Hunter, FMAB etc
It's a shame... because although cast balance has never really been one of the franchises strong factors... I thought it was handled much better in Z than it is now... especially in the Android/Cell saga.

The issue here, so far, is that although Super seems to often give screentime to the supporting cast, unlike GT, it doesn't give them power ups, just like GT.
So, you've got this situation where characters get featured but their screentime seems to be only to show how completely powerless they are now, which is a fairly odd choice. Technically, Z did the same thing, but at least gave power ups to the other secondary cast in order to at least create the illusion that they could achieve something. So far, Super doesn't even bother with that. Vegeta is the only one who seems to fill that old role, and everyone else is just hopelessly behind Goku.
