I like how they keep referring to Future Trunks' era as "the future" even though it's been established that it's an alternate timeline.
Honestly, I would have preferred they just skipped to the end of Z and had adult Trunks be cool instead of having Future Trunks come back.Hope we get a time skip in the current timeline too. It's time for some redesigns (Goten pls ;_

That would be pretty hilarious if it turned out to actually be future Trunks and not alternate timeline future Trunks.
He's still a "future" Trunks. It's just easy to distinguish that way.

To be fair, out of all the Z Fighters who aren't Goku or Vegeta he stands to gain at least something since he's the only character who's really had any sort of foreshadowing/gone back to training.

Piccolo did have a decent fight in the tournament until he got sidelined.
It was weird the anime changed that back because in the manga he still doesn't and some key frames posted online from the tournament arc had him with no hair.

After BoG Toriyama said he wanted to give Vegeta a bigger role, so him getting so many fights in the tournament was likely all Toriyama.
