The Witcher III: Blood & Wine |OT| One last contract, one last plough

Tried the euphoria mutagen, kind of crazy hitting for 5000 damage on fast attacks mixed with 10k heath due to the synergy from decoctions and tissue transmutation.

Just running out of skill points now.

Where do you do the new mutagen stuff? I haven't come across it yet.

Because my local B&M store has the LE version for PS4 with Gwent cards and the shebang, but not the retail version of HoS, so I just wanted to get B&W retail while I can, and then do HoS after that :)

buy the expansion pass digitally and then go to http://redeemgwent.com/. that way you get both HoS + B&W and all 4 gwent decks.

it's part of a side quest called "turn and face the strange"

wow just found out i've only done 4 out of 15 main quests so far. my play time counter is bugged out on PS4 but i must have put a solid 20 hours into it so far. been doing side quests mostly and i still have a load to work through.

this is insane. i got 16 hours out of HoS and 20 from B&W so far and i paid £20 for the expansion pass. i'd have easily paid double for this. way to go CDPR.

So, after 17h of doing main and secondary quest, I just got to the first "point of no return", it says some side quests won't be available after this. Am I really that far in, should I finish all the side quests now?

Yes. Or at least have a backup save. I skipped all sidequests for now since I'm a bit busy with other games too but it was a lot shorter than I expected. I got through the main quest on Blood and Broken Bones in only a few hours and didn't skip any dialogue.

A little messenger boy gave me a letter, which told me about a person who had researched mutagens, it will then trigger a quest.

Except in this one you complete a bunch of PoIs as part of the quests. Like, if you do a certain path through Wine Wars stuff, you end up doing about
15 PoIs.
I like that, even though it makes those quests feel pretty fetchy. It's neat that they all connect to one story and it takes you through a big chunk of the map with good incentive.

I still think there's too many PoIs that amount to "I went out here for something specific and died, here's my note and key", but there are some pretty great ones this time around and there's more variation in the types of PoIs themselves.
Agreed

The game starts out difficult, everything around you is deadly as f*ck. But the more you play, the easier it gets - something that I already noticed in TW2. I started out on the second-hardest difficulty but had to switch to Death March halfway through the game because the game became too easy.

So, the beginning at Death March difficulty should be pretty tough but once overcome, this difficulty is just right.

It's only really hard at the start of the game. Once you get past the first few bosses, you'll have some legit gear and an understanding of where you're heading with your build and it becomes a lot easier.

That's if you're rolling and dodging anyway. If you treat it like a hack N slash then you'll die very quickly.

Ok, thanks.
Dark mode in W2 wasn't that bad so i think i can handle Death March.

Wow I thought the expansion was 40h, that seems short then.

So when do you encounter the grandmaster armor dude that the dlc teases early on?

I'm just doing some of the early side quests (wine wars) and haven't seem to have encountered him. Been just warping back to old areas to repair my gear :/

So if you turn enemy scaling on, does it help you gain more XP?

Like say if I pick up a level 10 quest at level 20, those enemies would usually net met nothing, but if they are all now level 20 as well, I should get nice experience no?

Or am I completely off in this?

No, you get the same amount of xp, it's just there if you want a bigger challenge

It would completely break the game if it did since you can turn it on or off even mid combat

I haven't gotten to the DLC yet but this thread seems super active and I'm still working through my re-play, so I'll ask here:

Do other people think Triss' VA is incredibly poor in this game? Is it the same person from 1 and 2 and was she poor there? I don't remember thinking she was bad when I first played this game but every time she speaks I feel like she sounds out of place or something.

It is different than the actress in one and yeah I think she is not that great, not really bad but a lot worse compared to Yeniffer. Though I think even the writing for her is worse than in 2 or at least a bit inconsistent compared to the 2 previous games.

At least it makes the romance choice easier.

Edit: was thinking of dandelion when I said that the VA was different than the one in 2

I really don't think CDPR should be rewarding pack rats:

1) It's a boring mechanic- finding cool loot is great. However picking up every single sword and armor you find just makes Geralt into a junk collector.

2) The main game doesn't encourage the behavior. It's remarkably well balanced against not being a pack rat. If you are smart and selective about what you loot and sell then you still have all the money you need and don't have to deal with encumberance limits. Further there are extreme limits on the amount of money each merchant has which makes selling off your loot even harder.

The base game is basically bending over itself to provide negative feedback to pack ratting. But some people evidently can't help themselves and were complaining that they had 50,000 or so crowns and nothing to spend it on. So CDPR has caved and now supports this practice despite 100+ game hours of the game telling you that it isn't the proper way to play.

3) It couldn't be more lore inappropriate. Geralt is always poor and scraping to make ends meet. Sometimes he has trouble paying to have the holes in his jacket repaired. Witcher 2 establishes that some nobles will sell out an entire province for the sum of 50,000 crowns. It's crazy that in B&W Geralt is now expected to be rolling around with enough money to buy an entire Duchey.
I'm not sure where you got that idea that they don't want you to collect trash.
The only way you can avoid running around with broken equipment before reaching Novigrad is if you pick up everything . The game teaches you early on to pick up every single piece of blue-or-higher equipment and every crafting ingredient (of which there are what feels like a billion types).
If they didn't want you to do that, they wouldn't make selling trash so lucrative or give you the ability to store an entire warehouse in your horsebag.

The entire game is "lore inappropriate." There's absolutely no way Geralt could survive in it doing witcher work. It's by far the worst, rarest source of income. The moment you set foot in Novigrad, all of his financial issues go away and witchin' becomes nothing more than a hobby.
And don't even get me started on Blood and Wine's vineyard. Corvo Bianco? More like Château de Ludonarrative Flatulence.

Wow, the points of interest are really great. There's still a fair bit of the usual stuff like treasure and persons in distress but I'm surprised by all the little pieces of quests that are there and the stuff with gang leaders.

It's the same voice actress from the second game and yeah she just sounds... I don't know, fed up, tired, not in the mood?

Without spoilers, how many friends can you bring over to your villa? Toussaint people have weird accents, they either sound kind of French, German or Italian depending on who you talk to.

Just got my first mutation (toxic blood) and it seems to be outright lying?

My build is heavy green so I have about 8k health unbuffed and my toxicity level tends to be over 200. So according to the tooltip, I should be reflecting aprox 350% damage.

On deathmarch, melee attacks usually hit me for about 1/4 to 1/3 of my health. So presumeably at least 2000 damage.

2k * 3.5 = 7000 reflected damage when they hit me but I barely seem them take any damage at all.

What am I not understanding about toxic blood?

may have a spare code for blood and wine going.

I will post later as I need to check the season pass has unlocked on my PS4 before I give away the code.

Bought the gwent pack from game so that comes with a code which I wont need.

Its a UK PSN code only I believe

Hmmm the glasses get rid of the shitty feline armour hood. They should patch in some sort of toggle for that hood. Not sure how they would do it though.

Yeah she's pretty bad and out of place. I also think Zoltan is bad. He just mumbles his way through every line.

You guys make me want to switch from my moon armour now. Any of you playing on death march and having any success with the improved witcher armours? Going to be hard to leave this crit build it does a lot of damage.

aye, it sucks getting used to not using the good and trusty moon armor. however, im just missing my grandmaster cat trousers and im already killing in 2 or 3 hits though so its all good

on another note, it is a sin for CDPR leaving like that after they are done with this game. i would gladly pay another 60$ if i could get more expansions so i can clock another 240+ hours

None of that is really true. There are plenty of blacksmith's to repair your gear at before reaching Novigrad. And you can do limited repairs yourself as well.

And they don't really push you to loot and sell everything in the base game. Merchants have limited gold and there aren't really any big money sinks available to spend money on if you are bound and determined to do it anyway.

And while the carrying capacity isn't realistic it's still limiting enough that complaints on carry limits were one of the single most common complaints to the point where the high carry limit mods are always among the most popular.

Further the original release didn't even include a stash which further de-emphasized pack ratting.

Same actress from W2. I thought she was fine- basically same quality as prior game.

Honestly I wish CDPR would just put out a new edition of Witcher 1 using the VAs from Witcher 2 and 3 and a new performance from Doug Cockle.

I mean if you're gonna do ridiculous stuff like that ingame to get money you may as well just use a memory editor.

The effect is the same and memory editors require significantly less effort. Plus once you get handy with a memory editor you can do all kinds of fun stuff with single player games.

Eh? Blacksmith fees are incredibly expensive early on. The only way you can afford those is by becoming a junk collector. A witcher contract can often only pay for repairs of one piece of equipment and most of the coins you find will be foreign currency, so you need to reach Novigrad to use those.

Yeah I'm switching over to cat just now. Slowly. Think I'm going to run with the Viper swords over GM feline.

Although I got a pretty sweet relic sword called Blave from a quest. Ups crit hit chance to 15% from Vipers 10%.

Also can you make dyes rather than having to individually find them?

Jeeez another one. Why on earth would you want to do that? :) HoS is absolutely great! And has lower lvl requirements so if you leave it until after B&W, you will be overlevelled.
This. Do hearts of stone first, it's a shorter and more tightly woven story with the games best villain hands down.

This expansion is probably my favorite even if the main campaign doest compare, because the side quests and locale has been breathtaking but better to do them in order.

Anyone else sad we can't get one more expansion like this?! Great so far.

I know the staff need to move over to Cyberpunk but TW universe is just soo great.

No. Patch notes say that turning it on fills enemy health bars if you turn it on mid-combat. So, that isn't the reason.

im using that op silver sword from witcher 1(unsocketed), cant remember the name and the steel sword from HoS because it is soo good (i like how it looks as well)

havent toyed with dyes yet due that my set is incomplete and working a lot to make money for that end. but i think you can make your own colors because ive found the diagrams for some dyes

That wasn't my experience at all with the early game.

And to be clear, I have nothing against limited "junk collecting" to meet short term goals. "Oh, this piece of gear I want is 1,000 orens. Maybe I'll hit up a couple of caches until I've saved enough" provides enough motivation for exploration to make it almost a mini-quest. But if you aren't actively saving for a short term goal then there is no reason to loot everything that isn't nailed down. The game didn't provide huge money sinks until HoS and B&W.

The one that charges? Have that sword in my stash didn't know it was that good lol. HoS reward IIRC yeah.

Yeah, I just unlocked and tested a bunch of the mutations, and Toxic Blood wasn't really dealing the damage that it should be. Just put in the bugged basket.

Piercing Cold is so crap, coz it doesn't knockdown and kill enemies in one Aard. You actually have to use Aard twice. Lol, such a waste, when you can just use your sword for insta-killing when enemies are knocked down. Also, it doesn't deal the damage that it says it will deal in the tooltip. Another bugged mutation.

And the one that I want to use is completely bugged, and doesn't even work after one fight.

These are just for the few I tested. Seriously, do the gameplay developers even do anything?
