This is all I care about. We can finally stop fighting amongst ourselves and move on to laughing at our real enemy (and I really think he's an enemy of free-thinking individuals everywhere).

It's akin to players walking up to a tug-of-war contest and refusing to join a side; instead, they opt to jerk-off on the sidelines.

Sure, you're pulling on something.. but you're relinquishing your voice on the eventual outcome.

Seriously. It's about adding to the side you agree with the most and trying to build momentum in the direction you want to go. Maybe 3 supreme court seats are up for grabs. That could be a huge shift in the court that will aid democrats who want to push progressive issues for years to come. Instead we have people, who aren't getting everything they want right now, who are wiling to cut off their nose to spite their face.

Isn't that their exact purpose? To ensure "the people" don't vote in a Trump?

I always bring up the John Edwards affair as a viable reason for Supers to change their vote. Or some other significant extenuating circumstance. Otherwise, they should stick with the will of the people, especially when it's not even close.

Perot cost Bush a second term and handed the Whitehouse to a young, little know Democrat.

Just like Nader in 2000, the only thing a third party can do is split the vote of the person closest to them and ensure their opposition gets the elective office.

As said, an ego trip. One step forward, two steps back, and back to whining ...

Exactly. People can frame it however they want, and rationalize it as some moral victory or political stand but it is an ego trip. I wouldn't shame someone for voting third party, but best case scenario it just causes the person that differs the most from your views win. And that's at absolute best.

Yea? So fucking what. Is there even another name on the GOP ballot anymore?

I'll give these GOP guys more credit if they don't vote for him in the general but I have a feeling no matter how much shit they talk their asses will fall in line like they always do.

Turning on the sons of the "Greatest Conservative"?

Trump would never shoot himself in the foot like that. Ever.

Trump's whole position is shitting on Reagan; Reagan's way of dealing with undocumented immigrants is what got us to Trump (via the 1986 amnesty).

"I believe in the idea of amnesty" ~ Ronald Reagan.

"Rather than ... talking about putting up a fence, why don't we some recognition of our mutual problems [with Mexico], ... and make it possible for [Mexicans] to come here legally with a work permit." ~ Ronald Reagan

"Open the border both ways" ~ Ronald Reagan

"The United States and our neighbors, particularly our neighbor to the south, should have a better understanding and a better relationship than we've ever had" ~ Ronald Reagan

Watching the GOP abandon Trump the moment it looks like he's going to cost them the Senate and/or the House is going to be hilarious.

I hope my sarcasm wasn't lost. ^_^

Super informative. A great example of how far conservatism has pivoted on its already thinned continuum.

so what exactly would be on the California ballot besides the pres nom? Senator nominations?

Primary races. Federal and state congressional races have to have a candidate too. Could also be other even smaller offices, judges, etc. Also referendums on various topics.

Oh yes! It will be incredible if/when it happens. I'm not entirely sure they have enough foresight to do it. Or if they do it will be way way too late to matter. Like last week of October late lol.

It's not shaming to say that a 3rd party vote in this country is currently worthless outside of lower seats. A multiparty system cannot work with the way the electoral college is set up. It is literally throwing your vote away if you were closer to Bernie than Trump and actually might as well be a vote for Trump. If your a libertarian, I guess it doesn't really matter anyway.

Pretty sure Nate Silver's head would explode if he read this:

Nate Silver yesterday revealed that, on average, Democratic primary polling 21 days or less before the 2016 primaries and caucuses has been off by 10.6%.

That’s not a typo: 10.6%.

We can therefore conclude that the 54% to 46% lead that Hillary Clinton has over Bernie Sanders in pledged delegates is in fact a statistical dead heat, with a possibility that Sanders is actually ahead of Clinton in pledged delegates.

It's a parliamentary system that needs to form a majority block governing coalition.

Every office in the US is directly elected first past the post.

They're pretty different systems.

Yeah if the Electoral College is split three ways the House picks the POTUS.

Running a third party candidate to act as spoiler is just an invitation to wound whichever candidate is closest to the spoiler's politics.

A viable third party will only arise from a schism within the GOP or the Dems. I dont see a Podemos or Ciudadanos happening, honestly.

Even then a realignment will happen and that 3rd party will become the dominant other party and we will just be back to the two party system again.

It's a shame there aren't more viable choices, but people just have to accept incremental change in the two dominant parties. In the meantime, hopefully some kind of electoral reform can be pushed.

That became evident awhile ago.

I don't like her hawkish foreign policy, and that's important to me, so if/when she becomes president, I worry she's going to make damaging decisions in the Middle East, but with that said, I think she will do some good for the US internally, in respect to social issues, the economy, healthcare and reducing college costs.

I wish people on here would stop behaving like pop star groupies when it comes to Hillary. It's embarrassing. I can't tell if it's done to spite anti-Hillary people or not. I cringe really hard when I see these Hillary avatars, or the "yaaas queen" comments.
