President Barack Obama has endorsed Hillary Clinton, saying, “I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office."

The development comes after Obama and Vice President Joe Biden largely stuck to their promise to stay on the sidelines during the Democratic primary.

While Bernie Sanders is vowing to stay in the presidential race until next week’s D.C. primary, on Thursday he gave the strongest signs yet that he’s about ready to bow out, after meeting with Obama at the White House for more than an hour.

Obama for months has signaled his support for Clinton, who spent four years as his secretary of state after losing out to the freshman senator during a bitter primary battle in 2008.
