Obama endorses Hillary Clinton

That was one of the classiest endorsements I've seen. Can't wait to see Obama get going on the campaign trail! It also makes me feel like I should say that whether you're a Bernie or HIlary supporter, we all share common goals and we're going to kick Trump's ass this November. The time for arguing amongst ourselves is over.

Well shit, I'm in. I've been skeptical of Hillary but that video got me going. I think I understand better endorsements now, especially one from the president.

Obama's word is pretty powerful :p

Donated $10, shared on Facebook, and volunteered to help organize. I don't want to raise my child in a world where that horrible man is President.

Cheers. This is the right attitude.

Love >> Hate

This gives me the feels. I love how Hillary has gone to bat for Obama and is running on extending the groundwork he has laid after that brutal primary they had. You can tell that she truly harbors no ill will towards him and now the culmination of that is he in turn endorsing her.

The struggle and the reward. It must feel good for her.

Beautiful!

Nah, it's just establishment figures cashing favours owed

I wonder what /r/sandersforpresident looks like

When Sanders said "He'd work with Clinton to defeat Donald Trump," earlier today some of them interpreted that to mean he'd get her to work with him when he's the nominee.

I think they may take it poorly.

On Tuesday, potentially, based on the tie.

Before California even voted. smh. Guess we know who was responsible for the AP report.

But seriously, this is great to hear. I'm sure Sanders will be openly endorsing her soon as well. It feels like the fight has finally begun.

Wow he didn't wait for DC. Good on him. I hope this means that Bernie has plotted out an exit plan now.

I think he was just waiting for the voting from Tuesday to wrap up so that he wouldn't be criticized by Sanders supporters for putting his finger on the scale before CA got to vote.

Go get em Bams

Whenever Obama speaks, it's so soothing. He makes any worries about a divided party or a crazy convention or a Trump win go away with his words.

Does "endorsement" mean something I'm not aware of? Why does it matter? I remember people making a big fuzz over senators and mayors and whoever endorsing Trump. Does it just mean that Obama is voting for Hillary or is this some American super delegate super pac super tuesday thing that decides who becomes president?

Awesome video! Glad the endorsement happened sooner than later. Obama is so fucking great. Now time to shred Trump to pieces.

I think he was waiting for Bernie's OK to go ahead and endorse. He probably got it today during their meeting.

Actually /s4p will do what they do with most uncomfortable information: pretend it didn't happen or downvote it into oblivion.

r/politics too.

When Hillary won the nomination, all I saw was more upvoted threads about the emails or she's a corporate whore or whatever else.

Not even one damn upvoted thread about her winning the nomination. I at least thought I'd see a tepid one saying "Ya ok, I don't like Hillary, but it is a pretty cool moment in US History to have a woman represent a major party as Presidential nominee".

Even Colin Moriarty, a loud and proud Republican, acknowledged that on Twitter. R/politics could not.

It made me so angry. I was for Obama in 2008 as a college aged kid, and was very passionate about that. That primary was WAY more brutal, and yet, had Hillary won, I would have unquestionably supported her in November.

Great video by Obama.

Can we ignore Reddit?

No, it means he supports Hillary and will be campaigning with her.

This is a big deal because Obama is generally well liked and is a great public speaker, so he will probably help significantly in convincing undecided voters to pick Clinton over Trump.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Great video, and very nice comments by Bernie from after their meeting. While not yet a concession, the wheels are clearly in motion and he seems to be moving in the right direction when it comes to help uniting everyone in the fight against Trump.

It doesn't mean much if people don't respect what you have to say, but Obama is beloved by a large majority of democrats and has a positive approval rating overall in the country. Him endorsing basically means it's time to get moving as he said he would stay out til the primary was over

Correct me if I'm wrong but Obama will be the first popular outgoing President to campaign for his successor in close to 100 years, right? Gore didn't want Bill and Reagan was far too sick already to be helping Bush. The rest were either unpopular or one term Presidents for a long time - all the way back to Eisenhower?

Somewhat unrelated, but did George W actually come out and endorse John McCain? He kind of seemed out of the picture during 2008. Or did he endorse him but choose not to campaign with him?

Also further confirmation (if any was needed) that there is zero chance of any indictment happening. Well past time for people to give up on that horse.

A sitting president being well liked enough and healthy enough to campaign for the next candidate is a pretty rare occurance and hasn't happened in generations

This is a pretty big deal.

"I don’t think there’s ever been someone so qualified to hold this office."
As an historical aside, of all the men elected president, the most qualified, in terms of diversity and length of experience, was most likely James Buchanan: 10 years in the House of Representatives, 11 years in the Senate, 4 years as Secretary of State, 1 year as Ambassador to Russia, 3 years as Ambassador to the UK. Things...didn't work out so well for him.

Which isn't to say Hillary isn't impressive; I think she'll be a good president. But that's what I always think of when people start arguing over experience.

Bill Clinton/Al Gore

But as I recall Gore intentionally distanced himself from Clinton, who was somewhat damaged at the time.

Don't forget the whole Iran-Contra thing with Reagan, either. H.W. wanted to distance himself as far away from that as possible, saying he was "out of the loop" of those decisions.
