So was this a gay nightclub?

I see some outlets mentioning it, but others haven't.

Yes definitely a gay nightclub. Some of the witnesses the reporters have spoken to have clearly been gay and they've spoken to a representative from the LGBT community

ffs, that you're even able to make rankings like this. Something's rotten in the USA
That's what the media does with every shooting.

Give their names a slot on a ranking list like its a competition. Their no better than the guys themselves at that point cause they contribute nothing.
Not to mention the shooter gets ranked to "live on" while the victims just becomes nameless dead people.

I don't know why people are speculating about the shooter.

Let the facts come in.

Kinda strange that it seems people are hoping the shooters fits some identity. I don't get that logic in these incidences.

It's a horrible tragedy so far. The authorities will do their jobs with shooter.

We aren't talking about one individual, we're talking about many. Maaaaany.

Flood your country with cheap, easily accessible firearms and we'll see how many 'fucked up individuals' your country has.

The problem with spree shootings in America is not because Americans are rotten people, it's the endemic complacency and dissonance when it comes to gun safety laws.

It sounds like they haven't positively ID'ed the shooter, but are drawing the conclusion based on who they think it is and what they know about him (there might be prior intelligence concerning the individual).

They mentioned specifically that the shooter was not from Orlando, so I think they know more than they are willing to reveal right now.

Ideally we do not want Islamic terrorists to get guns, but there are almost always methods of attaining firearms illegally.

The fear we have of Islamic terrorism is a hell of a thing really, there have been over 190,000 homicides in the US since the war on terror began, out of which 37 have been related to Islamic extremism..

Then we need to work towards making it as difficult as possible to obtain guns, period. Legal or illegal. Ban sales of ammunition, do gun buybacks, whatever.

As for Islamic terrorism, it's still a legitimate threat to cause mass mayhem and death. Look at the Boston bombing. 3 fatalities count to your figure, but 264 injuries with limbs blown off, etc. And of course, San Bernardino.

Both are problems. Especially if Islamic leanings ended up influencing the homophobic hate crime that this looks to be.

My God. 20 people killed presumably because they were gay. My thoughts are with the victims, their close ones and all who feel threatened because of their sexual attraction.
RIP

If this was Islamic terrorism is this going to be a turning point for the upcoming elections?

I'm sure you can expect a stupid tweet by Donald any time soon.

Such a sad story :/

You go out to have a good time at place where you're free be yourself instead you get gunned down.

I would expect US bars to have armed bouncers and metal detectors.
Is that not a thing yet?
Those may not have helped in this instance even if they were in place.
The suspect literally shot his way into the club with an assault rifle.
He didn't subject himself to any sort of on-site security checks.

First that poor Christina Grimmie girl, now this.

How many more America?

If I was Obama I'd throw the fucking hammer down as a last presidential act. Not like they can vote him out.

my brother in law and his girlfriend just moved from Australia to Florida for a work posting for three years a week ago. Literally everyone we knew joked about not getting shot in America. I've had multiple texts from people and so has my wife regarding this. This is what the world thinks of you, America.

Oh I'm sorry, it's just we're all jealous of your freedom and second amendment, my mistake.

RIP to the people senselessly killed.

This is terrible to hear. I hate how a few people (or person) can have such a negative impact on innocent people and society.

I would expect US bars to have armed bouncers and metal detectors.

That doesn't seem like a reasonable way to deal with the problem.

Yeah, this looks like a Bataclan scenario where there's really not much more the premise could have done.

I'm pretty sure one of the police officials said that one police officer was working at the club (I guess as a side job to earn some extra cash) at the exact time the shooting started. It surprises me that the casualty numbers would be so high in that case, although I guess he would be outgunned.

I know some gaffers are police, maybe they can shed some light concerning protocol and training. I'm pretty sure cops don't just go at a shooter guns blazing at first. Plus if they had automatic weapons, they could get off a lot of shots off in a crowded club before security could even lineup a clear shot.

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
Abcnews news says it's being investigated as "domestic terrorism"

Best to just wait and see

Edit:

Nm this is from the same press conference

He is still only the part of the Executive branch. He's not a dictator.

I watched the CNN interview. Suspect is "Islamic leaning" and "not from the local area."

Also "suspicious device", and "potential international terrorism."

Maybe they should start to label other shooters based on their "leanings".

Such as Christian leaning.

Scapegoating the situation already.

There will always be hateful bastards in the world, just don't let then have stupidly easy access to killing machines.

Such a backwards country.

I don't mean in a dictator way, but surely there's something he can do? This has gone on long enough.
He can't. He could not do anything after 20 children were killed.

If he couldn't then, what makes you think he could now?

He actually lost his Senate majority since.

Sure, but if the shootings started at the entrance then it must have happened at quite a pace for so many victims to be hit before the police officer there reacts - the press conference stated the officer did return fire at the time. As I mentioned previously though, that looks a small club to me, and with 300 people inside, it would take seconds.

I don't know much about America's gun ownership rules. Can a civilian legally own and carry an assault rifle?

It depends on the state, and in some cases even cities within a state. Here I can drive about 5 minutes to a huge range and store and buy myself an AR-15 and deck it out with custom scopes and rails and what not. There will be a limit on the magazine size. We also can't purchase anything fully automatic, nor make a semi into a full.

To be fair here mass shootings in America are all to common and the 'mass shooting' in France was a terrorist incident.

It might be turn out that this is a terrorist attack too but so far people just assumed it was another crazy with a solo agenda.

Seriously, can you blame the rest of the world? They watch this garbage go on and we do it to ourselves. It must look like a freak show to them

Obama has been trying. In his last speech over mass shooting he said as much. He ranted about the nra, dreaming up new solutions and more. It's incredibly hard because the NRA must be me matched in effort and beaten at its own game.

Before his term is over, Obama is going to go HARD on guns and he will drag Hillary along with him
If the laws didn't change after Sandy Hook then they sure as hell won't now.

This is domestic terrorism and the police seem to be saying that as well. Another sad day for my country.

That doesn't matter too much when you can drive between 48 of the states. Buy your mass murder enabler in one state, stick it in the car, drive to the state you want to commit mass murder in.

Pretty much. I have friend who showed me his "little" weapons collection he was able to get from Nevada, he lives in CA, it was something. He's a gun collector so the guns are modified but it was still scary as hell.

The world stands with you when there is a terror attack. But when it is daily mass murders because of your own lack of effort to put any gun control in while that is certainly an issue, people are right to blame your government for not doing more to protect its citizens.
