Console wars are often unnecessary derailment because it has fuck all to do with the topic of the OP. Gun law conversations amidst a mass shooting is kinda where you would expect this to be a conversation when talking about the political aspect to the shooting. Along with things like homophobia and terrorism.

I have no problems with people talking about his specific gun or the laws revolving around semi automatic rifles or whatever. The general "guns need to be banned" vs "I love my guns" bullshit could just go elsewhere.

We don't need another 20 pages about the benefits of banning guns vs your right to bare arms.

Yes we all know without guns there wouldn't be shootings. Yes we all know guns don't kill people people kill people. Take that shit to PMs or another thread.

It's the same shit every time.

Yes he is serious. People want to see what happened. It's human nature.

What's wrong with that?

I don't think it is human nature to want to see people getting murdered while screaming and crying for their lives. Sorry.

I don't need those images in my head, I know what happened that is more than enough.

Jesus fucking Christ, at what point do people stop defending this archaic law to carry arms.

I guess if you let a bunch of kids die and haven't done anything then I guess never. So sad:( what a fucked country.

Oh go fuck yourself. NOBODY IN THIS GOD DAMN THREAD IS ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT HOMOPHOBIA ON A MACRO LEVEL THAT'S WHY I BROUGHT IT UP.

The gun argument is the same circular crap it always is.

Because homophobia is a complex subject. You can't "ban" how people think, you have to gradually change how they think, and society is pushing forward on addressing it on every possible level. Even the president of the USA declared this to be LGBT pride month. Homophobia is still a massive problem, but acceptance is rising at an unprecedented rate. Progress is being made.

Guns, on the other hand, are some sacred cow that can't be addressed.

I don't know, would a Republican Senator from Texas who is running for president attend a conference run by people calling for the death penalty for gays?

People are lashing out at anything because the current shooting goes against the narrative that left wing politics stand for.
1. religiously motivated
2. Will be used for the Muslim debate
3. Shooter targeted democratic base (LGBT)
3. Shooter was an trained security guard
4. Registered democrat http://voters.findthedata.com/l/28019600/Omar-Mir-Seddique-Mateen

So trying to shift focus on a religious Twitter post from a republican on a Sunday is just blindly lashing out when everything you stand for comes into question.

Reddit moderators have issues.

They keep deleting this news from r/worldnews and r/news.

On Twitter:

@ABC this is what consequence coming when u Dems want more Muslims to come to the us

It's already begun....

Reddit is a fucking mess right now. The /r/all is dominated by fear mongering posts about how this is the fault of Islam, not guns. And how it's lying solely on the shoulders of the left for not hating Islam.

Pretty much. Guns and mass shootings are the American way. And we export it to every corner of the globe.

Any minute now. Same shit, different stall: "We need to do something" blah, blah... nothing gets done. Next mass shooting comes. Next Pres will say the same thing. Rinse. Repeat.

Just remember him being legit pissed and upset at one of the last ones he had to hold. Interested to see how he responds now, even if it is the same old.

50 people. 50 fucking people.... We don't need guns. The British aren't going to invade. The South will not rise again. The Indians won't be raiding our settlements. We should have ended this madness when 20 little children were gunned down.

The Second Amendment needs a new look in SCOTUS or it needs repealed.

No one should have guns in their home unless they are a member of law enforcement, the National Guard, the US Military, or a well regulated militia. If people want to go hunting they should be able to borrow a single-shot rifle from a state armory with intense security measures.

The worst mass shooting in US history. My condolences to all the victims and their families.

If this does not spark reform then absolutely nothing will.

so how is the conservative-religious right gonna tackle this if they find out it's an act of islamic terrorism?

If it is an act of terrorism it should be treated as such. If it's a lone radicalized nut job acting on behalf of religion (like the marathon bombers), that's still something that needs to be addressed.

The #Orlando shooter was U.S. citizen with no criminal record who held TWO current gun licences.
A 'good guy with a gun' until he wasn't.

Yeah I never understood that stupid excuse.

It set the conversation in terms of Saturday morning cartoons.

Man the difference between Clinton and Trump's reaction to this is night and day.

Clinton:

Trump:

Trump can't even express condolences and then immediately gets back to attacking Clinton.

Over 100 victims, 50 straight dead? Holy shit. :/ My condolences to everyone who lost friends or family, and I hope the death count does not go up any further.

What sucks is that LGBT crowd have a weird one year ban to donate blood.

In most European countries they're banned from donating blood entirely.

so how is the conservative-religious right gonna tackle this if they find out it's an act of islamic terrorism?

I are you talking about the Islamic "religion of peace" conservative right or the Christian "religion of peace" conservative right?

Frankly, I would hope any group would mourn the loss of life and push for stricter gun laws. Sadly, that is but a fantasy.

50 people who happened to be homosexuals where murdered by a guy whose name happens to sound Islamic?

This conversation will go anywhere but towards gun control.

Rip to the victims and I hope the perpetrator gets cushy in hell.

This is exactly that Obama was talking about. It's easier to get someone on a no fly list then it is to limit a gun purchase. It's a fucking joke.

This is absolutely awful. I'm shocked and saddened.

Of course, this shooter had to have ruthless efficiency. :(

Not even sure what to say right now.

As a foreigner there's nothing I can say that's been said already so many times. A ban on the civilian possesion of guns would make your country such a better place to live in. For the sake of past and future victims of gun violence I hope you all realise that sooner rather than later.

I expect you to continue debating about mental illness and consumption of violent media forever though.

I'm utterly shocked... it's terrible to think that another mass shooting happened and most likely nothing is gonna change.

There is no shortage of non-religious homophobia. I have seen homophobic atheists focus on it being an evolutionary dead end, personally disgusting, claims of pedophilia, and fear of being treated the way they treat women as focuses for their homophobia. No shortage of violence in the rhetoric either. So I absolutely believe that this act of homophobic act of domestic terrorism is not necessarily religiously motivated.

No. It kinda isn't.

The US would need to actually witness the murder of 500-1000+ children before anything gets done. Even then it wouldnt be enough. Like was pointed out, livestreaming would probably be banned instead.

There's no threshold wherein the political and cultural landscape of the US shifts to the point it becomes acceptable to control firearms. 500, 1000 kids, it doesn't matter.

What? GTFO.

People are lashing out because they are upset, not because their worldview is being turned upside down because as you frame it, one of their own committed this atrocity.

You are a bizzare person.
