The Surface range is stunning and the Lumias are nice too. MS hardware hasn't been ugly for a few years now, they really turned it around.
True it's not identical. I am expecting it out this year and might be launched the same time as the VR bundle. A Neo/VR bundle for $699 might be possible.
I expected Neo is to help with VR on the console and releasing it later doesn't make sense.

We've known PSVR release date for a longer time then we've known about PS4K release date timing and devkits.
Why would Sony announce the PSVR release date, and then send out development kits with specific dates by which they can launch their Neo versions, if they all along didn't want to make two hardware launches this fall?
Other than that, announcing an upgraded version of your hardware that is coming later this fall would be an odd decision and not really one that tech companies do anymore nowadays. The time from announcement on most consumer electronics is from 10 days to a month, I expect Sony to follow the exact same strategy with their announcement of Neo.
We should probably take the discussion elsewhere though.

Same thing, just depends if you want to decode on the console or your AVR. Decoding on the AVR will light up your DTS HD light
DTS HD is a lossless compression that decides to PCM.
Some AVRs can't decode DTS HD so may as well decode on console and enjoy the lossless audio through the AVR as PCM. All AVRs will play PCM.

I agree it doesn't. But from a consumer budget point of view it does make sense.
The launch games will have to run properly on launch hardware anyway, and the new experience will cover for the lack of graphical prowess.
In 2017, PSVR will be able to benefit from Neo to stop VR games from looking long in the tooth when the initial rush wears off.

The thing here is that this seems to be a much more significant change than most other slim updates of consoles, due to the added 4K capability and possible UHD Blu-ray support.

Because the rumours were getting inescapable, they don't want people to be disappointed in their E3 presentation and they want to let the people know that it's not releasing soon .
They'll come out with that last point at Gamescom.

Eh, it'll all get course corrected tomorrow. If anything, the misinformation spreading may result in a positive for MS when it turns out the Slim is cheaper than anticipated.

I'm assuming 4k playback. Considering uhd players just came out at 500, i don't think the manufacturer of the drive would let them get it at such a low price.
