Xbox One S: 40% smaller, 2TB, 4K for movies/tv, internal PSU, $300

While I think every MS hardware design has been hideous: the original Xbox, 360, every controller they released... I actually find every X1 design very good and attractive. I love this one.

The Surface range is stunning and the Lumias are nice too. MS hardware hasn't been ugly for a few years now, they really turned it around.

This is no ordinary revision, and PS VR further complicates your analogy.

They're setting up PS VR as the Christmas gadget to get this year, and Neo would muddle that launch.

They need PS VR to be as successful as it can be, even if it means postponing Neo to early 2017.

True it's not identical. I am expecting it out this year and might be launched the same time as the VR bundle. A Neo/VR bundle for $699 might be possible.

I expected Neo is to help with VR on the console and releasing it later doesn't make sense.

Call me weird, but 2TB is too much for me. I only have 500GB on my PS4 and PC and its more than enough for me and I'm a digital only guy. That hard drive would drive the cost up.

LOL, WUT???!

I have 2.5TB on my X1, it's 70% full.

I have 3.5TB in my gaming PC and only about 400GB left (0.4TB left)

Then hit me with your logic.

I've since explained mine.

I'd gladly explain.

We've known PSVR release date for a longer time then we've known about PS4K release date timing and devkits.

Why would Sony announce the PSVR release date, and then send out development kits with specific dates by which they can launch their Neo versions, if they all along didn't want to make two hardware launches this fall?

Other than that, announcing an upgraded version of your hardware that is coming later this fall would be an odd decision and not really one that tech companies do anymore nowadays. The time from announcement on most consumer electronics is from 10 days to a month, I expect Sony to follow the exact same strategy with their announcement of Neo.

We should probably take the discussion elsewhere though.

2tb, 4k, slim...

Must be expensive as fuck, 450 at best

I highly doubt that. Gotta be cheaper.

Same thing, just depends if you want to decode on the console or your AVR. Decoding on the AVR will light up your DTS HD light ;)
DTS HD is a lossless compression that decides to PCM.
Some AVRs can't decode DTS HD so may as well decode on console and enjoy the lossless audio through the AVR as PCM. All AVRs will play PCM.

Got it, thanks! Since my receiver only has 'regular' DTS, I guess I'll stick w/ LPCM.

Guys, has any console manufacturer released a "slim" version of a console that is more expensive than the model its replacing?

Xbox One's are $300 now, I would be very surprised if the slim is over $299

I agree it doesn't. But from a consumer budget point of view it does make sense.

The launch games will have to run properly on launch hardware anyway, and the new experience will cover for the lack of graphical prowess.

In 2017, PSVR will be able to benefit from Neo to stop VR games from looking long in the tooth when the initial rush wears off.

The thing here is that this seems to be a much more significant change than most other slim updates of consoles, due to the added 4K capability and possible UHD Blu-ray support.

I think I prefer the look of the fat one. Something about the blocky appearance rubs me the wrong way, reminds me of a router or something.

is what I'm thinking of

Do we know if it has a 4K Blu Ray drive or just 4K video playback? I really cannot see this being more expensive than the existing model, at least not a hypothetical 500GB/1TB version.

Why tell the general public it exists this soon and take the risk of current system sales slowing down because people just might wait it out?
Because the rumours were getting inescapable, they don't want people to be disappointed in their E3 presentation and they want to let the people know that it's not releasing soon .

They'll come out with that last point at Gamescom.

But let's get back to Xbox...

True, but they are probably taking out the tv features and HDMI pass through, saving some on the BoM costs

That's a great looking router though.

Looks pretty bad though a bit nicer than PS4 or the original Bone I guess :/

Can't wait for Nintendo to finally unveil the NX, they always make gorgeous looking consoles.

Looks a million times better than the current XO. I'm actually interested. 4K HDR at $350 or whatever. Yeah, that's pretty fucking inciting.

WTS XBOX One Day One Edition, Rarely used, comes with all cables and controllers. Forza 5 LE, Sunset Overdrive and Kinect.

Bidding starts at $0

Because that's what it's worth NOW!

I can only imagine how smaller it would have been if there was no disc drive. It would be glorious. I'm still not buying one as I have no need but it is pretty. I wish it was still black but I understand it's going in line with the surface design.

This is why the leakers suck. Not only was the surprise ruined, there's now these tangents that are based on incomplete information and spread around too fast.

Dude, with all of those ventilation holes it's going to be at least $600. Have you seen them? There's literally dozens. Now let me continue to speculate about the pricing because of arbitrary stats.

Eh, it'll all get course corrected tomorrow. If anything, the misinformation spreading may result in a positive for MS when it turns out the Slim is cheaper than anticipated.

I'm assuming 4k playback. Considering uhd players just came out at 500, i don't think the manufacturer of the drive would let them get it at such a low price.
